Feedback - Renown Increase Nerf

  • I've noticed a major issue with the Renown Increase Progression on the SoT Battle Pass.

    Season 8 has already been out for just over a week now and the new update is fun. But within 1-2 weeks, I'm already Renown Level 100? This needs to be nerfed IMO.

    Why Nerf Renown Increase?

    • The fact you can hit Renown 100 Immediately says a lot

    • The Renown Increase is too fast in Level Up Progress

    • Why keep playing after you hit 100 Renown?

    Now I get it. There are a lot of pirates who will and do enjoy Speedrunning the Plunder Pass and Getting Level 100 Renown right off the bat.
    But this needs to make the progress slower.

    I was with my friend just running Athena Voyages and we both hit 3-5 Levels within 5 Minutes in between multiple levels. My friend and I both agreed that the Renown Increase Speed should be done in 1 of 2 ways:

    1: Cap Renown at fixed level numbers/24-48 Hours before the next Renown Increase starts running.

    • This will be good to ensure the seas stay active and your pirates return and keep the servers going strong.
    • With ensuring that pirates would return in this factor. You also encourage the concept of hitting Level 100 Renown by the end of the Season instead of straight at the start.
      2: If No Cap for those who wanna speedrun the Plunder Pass. Make the Pass more challenging.
    • This can be done for ensuring that pirates go in and try to speedrun while taking advantage of the new update and making a good chuck of gold in the process
    • Make the XP Gains from Renown increase the same XP as if you are going for Max Level in a Faction like Reaper/Athena/Gold/Order/Merchant/Etc... This will enforce players to play longer through the season much like if the season had a Renown Cap.

    These are my thoughts and I hope that others reading this post also have some input on this topic as well.

  • Instead we have a PvP system that has 1000 levels. Paragon renown to earn a special season only currency to allow you to buy old season cosmetics for those who are new to the game or were too busy playing WoW when seasons were added. Instead half the season pass rewards are either useless small amounts of doubloons which are only good for converting to gold and then small amounts of actual gold awarded. If I knew renown was this easy I would have been willing to give up 2 days of wow every 3 months to farm out the rewards. I figured it was going to be like rocket league play all day every day for months trying to get the recolor you want just to keep getting the same bad color you don't want.

    I don't think a daily renown cap is a good idea. I imagine you think the 1 hour per week reward system for insiders is a good idea? I know I would put more effort into testing if you actually could put in the time and be rewarded for it. The game is grinding enough without playing 8+ hours a week testing to get 3000 gold

  • Plunder Pass having such fast progression is awesome and I wish it could be the industry standard. It's much better to have permanent grinds in the game (even the stupid long season 8 pvp progression) than time-limited grinds which just annoy players by forcing them to play on schedule. Thanks to the player-friendly pace I don't have to choose between buying for example Overwatch battle pass (which is unfortunately time-consuming and I even left feedback in their forum to learn from Rare), or Plunder pass. I can buy both. Casual gamer life is better when you can enjoy multiple games instead of spending too much time in one like it would be after work job.

    What about everyone else? I been playing for same amount and only reached 30. But I also havnt been doing. A lot of pvp

    It not the system at fault. Players just play too much :p

    Level 53 in about 3 hours doing 2/3 Veil runs.

    It's a little faster this time.

  • I think the season renown is fine as is, no need for caps or rate limits as there are already plenty of lengthy commendations and achievements for players who want to spend a long time doing something.

    The season tracks are short and fun which is all they need to be IMO.

  • I feel like Renown is fine the way it is. Player retention should be done by the quality of content rather than an artificial interest because of a grind. Many players stay in this game because they want certain achievements, or commendations, or enjoy the stories from the Tall Tales. Having the PlunderPass completed means they don't have to worry on missing the rewards and dedicate their time to stuff in-game that interests them.
    Also, less grind means less burnout from playing the same thing over and over. Right now players can do activities they want without grinding the renown on purpose.

    I’m glad it increases because I play a lot of PlayStation 5 and having to play sea o thieves everyday can be a pain for me.
