ACK! I'm bored with Sea of Thieves.

  • Been here a loooooong time. Never felt this way before. Sure, I took little breaks, but this feels different.

Hoarders, Order and Merchant Voyages... So boring.
    Forts... bored with 'em.
    Megs... super bored with 'em.
    Kraken... only annoying.
    Fleets... Lame.
Tall Tales... Fun once or twice... not five times. Bored.
Athenas... Even speed running them is boring.
PvP... Very occasionally fun, but mostly boring. Tucking and espionage is hit or miss.
Arena... Never my cup of tea. Boring.
Reaper Chests... Grew old really quick. How many doubloons do we need? Boring.

I'm quite sure that new players can have fun with the game, like I did for a long time, but if it's going to keep me coming back, we need something more than new fetch quests and QoL improvements, as nice as some of them are.

Let's start with something on the islands to fight other than skeletons, crabs, giant snakes, anything but skellies. I think I saw a streamer speculating about a royal navy story line. Imperial soldiers would be good. The water could have evil mermaids, sirens, etc.

Let us hunt down other pirates with an opt-in bounty system of some kind.

Give us new weapon choices. grenades, daggers, etc.

I know this is probably burnout talking, and this is definitely just one player's opinion, but there it is. I hope I feel different in a week or two.

  • Do you play Solo? Cause one of the unique things I love about this game is that it’s only as good as the people you play it with (your crew).

I don’t do quests man. Never have. I post in the LFG Tool every night.

Some nights are epic and some nights are meh.

Some Crews I’m literally crying from laughing so much. Sometimes they are lame and I just bail and repost!

Adventure Mode PVP - Galleon - Violence & Mayhem! This Galleon Brakes for Barrels! No Quarter Given!
    #lootstacking, #adult only, #mic required, #experienced players only

Try that! There are tons of fun posts! Dudes just smoking and sailing ⛵️

You name it there is something for everyone!

    Even LGBT 🏳️‍🌈 and Millennials!

  • Little bit hostile, but awesome ideas- maybe pass on the grenades though. Smoke bombs could be helpful though! Bounties would be amazing. I've dreamed of a game in which players host and pay for bounties, it'd be awesome if sot did this! crabs are also a great idea. give us land bosses!!

  • @shareyourhead truly wasn't going for hostile. If I never touched the game again it would have been well worth the price.

As for solo, I sometimes solo, other times use lfg. LFG is also hit and miss, and there are still the same few things to do however. Even with a great crew.

  • The problem with Sea of Thieves is that they launched the game with poor content, sure you could travel around with the ship, but the voyages they offered were repetitive and didnt change much. By this time they improved their game and included a lot of content, but in my opinion is not enough... The gameplay we have is cool, but repetitive, they don't create a lot of new and revolutional things, they just make little improvements. In my opinion Sea of Thieves is a great game, and Rare is working really hard! Im sure of this!

The fact is that by year 2 we should have a lot more content than we already have (or at least a bunch whole lote more Clothes, its pretty lame that a game based on cosmetics doesnt have the properly amount of cosmetics it should have by the year 2.), In my opinion they should had to launch the game with more features and some others that were on the way... Cuz now we have to wait a lot until we recieve a really cool and innovative gameplay.

Of course we have the monthly event updates, which is cool (for at least having something new, eventhough its just some "special voyages", which are nothing else than just normal voyages but with commendatios and tittles on them) But people expect to see something really new, new enemies, new sea monsters, new factions, new missions, new animals, new interactions, new areas... The world of Sea of thieves looks incredible and it's very beautiful, have it's own esence that makes me wanna come back every week, but not everyday.... We need new ways to explore their world, innovative and with more variety. It's like they improved much the game, but you are constantly doing the same thing over and over again. Probably anyone gets the normal voyages we had to do back in the days when the game launched, you would rather just go around, and probably you will get more gold for selling things u found around thatn doing the voyages... Just looks nonesense...

I hope this is just a matter of time and they come with something really big by the next year...

Rare really improved the game, but by year 2... it still hasnt improved the much it should have.

    Yehaaaa!!!
Spread the curse in the seaas!!

  • I want the world full of Tall Tales, like 100's of them!

How much do you played it, every day for many hours or the one or the other day for just a couple of hours?
It would be boring if i'd play it every day for 4+ hours, but i enjoy it still on 3-4 days a week for 3-4 hours.
Rarely played it more and my breaks are between a week and a month maybe.
Didnt miss anything special since launch, partaked in all Events.

I agree at @Glannigan it's depends a lot of the crew you are sailing with.
I have fun solo from time to time but i mostly sail with a crew on a Brig or Galleone and have around 10 people playing on a small community Discord.
Depending of the crew compilation it's more ir less fun, more PvE or PvP orientated etc...

@glannigan sagte in ACK! I'm bored with Sea of Thieves.:

  • Try to play the game the other way. Don't search for what the game could offer, create your own story.

F.e. pick up a reapers' chest, place it on top of a fort and try to defend it as long as you can.
Sink every skelly ship and try to give away the earned fortress' chests without beeing killed or sunk.

There can be much fun in the game besides the given content.

  • You have to set your own goals and know your own limits.

There's nothing wrong with taking some time off and coming back to a game that feels fresher for you not having played it in a while.

Sure even the most loved up couples need some time apart.

I've found fishing to be an unexpected joy which keeps me coming back. Then there's setting personal challenges, grinding for a hard to get commendation. Sitting through the Arena matchmaking just for a change of scenery. Sailing up to rando ships and buzzing off them.

There's plenty to do, if you want to get creative. You need to feel motivated though, which is what it sounds like you're lacking right now, and the only thing for that is a short break.

  • I kind of feel the same way. The only fun that I still have is setting certain goals for myself and trying to complete them.

    Examples;

    • Steal 3 chests from 3 different ships without firing a shot.
    • Collect a whole bunch of treasure and give it to Noobs.
    • Try to talk your way into the trust of another crew and adventure with them as their dedicated Bilge Rat (it's safer downstairs)

Stuff like that. At the end of the day SoT is a Sandbox where you sometimes have to bring your own toys to play with.

  • I consider thieves a Sand box. It was actually my kids that told me about it and talked me into it.

    I played begrudgingly...

Then the next day I was hooked and they were already done. They need on the rails progression (millennials!).

I just need other ships and I can create my own content.

Would I like more “World” stuff? For sure. I wish they would just create world bosses or events like WOW.

Like “Elite” Skull Forts or Elite Skelly Fleets that require a Fleet if Players to beat.

That way you can just play the way you want. Solo/PVP/Fleet

Other than trying to level fast or
Build up gold fast there is no content that requires “Fleet”. I wish there was!

Even I took about 4 -6 months off. You got to be in the “mood” for this game.

It’s not like Overwatch where you got 45 minutes to kill. The average play session for me
    On SOT’s is 3-6 hours.

No other game that I play requires that kind of time commitment.

Hell if Arena loaded as fast as Overwatch I’d play it all the time!

  • Yeah totally bored. I stop everywhere make boat a loot pinata, park outpost put up reaper wait for pirates to turn it in then quit.. i only like to have fun with other pirates but they only want to fight.. sometimes i go arena tavern to have fun but quit before match then go back to the hot tub again :")

  • Yeah! I’ve stopped playing.

Just couldn’t bring myself to do the same things over and over anymore.

Had a quick look at the monthly events but just more of the same.

    The games tapped out.

  • I stopped playing too. I bought the pet to support Rare. Try to do the new event journeys but stopped then. Nothing to do with my money and over and over again the same voyages.

Try it now again but see me quit after 15 minutes because im on the way to an island to dig out a box. Ohhhh jeeeeeeeea.... -.-

  • Just to be clear, I have made my own fun in this game. Tuck missions on other ships, Taunting others with reaper chests. Guarding forts against all comers. Rowboat burglaries. Making easter egg hunts at outposts by hiding loot all over the place. Drawing happy faces in the sand with mermaid gems.

Some of these were obviously just desperate attempts to relieve the approaching boredom.

    Yeah, a break is needed.

  • I thought about starting a new pirate and gain all those nice popups from loot again but i finally got me legend canons and i want to keep this golden boat :/

  • @captain-arcanic I agree with you on all of your points. I've played 1000s of hours and also feel that there needs to be a new infusion of enemy and friendly npc's. Why not have a few stevedores (young strapping lads) willing to help you unload your ships for say 10%. If you want fruit on Daggers you might have to buy it from the fruit cart because the dame that runs it empties the barrels of fruit every respawn. Things like that will go a long way to helping curve the repetitive tasks. With all this said, yesterday we had a blast battling it out with a crew of fortress server hoppers. We saw them heading to Sailors Knot as a fog rolled in to provide us cover. The fight with them lasted a good hour and culminated in both ships sinking with 4 of us battling it out for the rights to the rowboats! Great stuff that only Sea of Thieves can provide! Chin up, you'll be back in your element soon😉.

  • For me personally I feel like the game should have more cosmetics that you work towards by achieving goals in the game.

I wonder sometimes if that’s what other players feel is missing from the game and that’s why they stop playing. There is no character progression. We don’t need character progression that causes us to increase our power but it would be nice to be able to show off our achievements in game with cosmetics.

Imagine to get this really cool looking coat that is themed in Order of Souls fashion you had to complete 250 OoS voyages as you have to do now but instead of just completing you now unlock a coat. Once you’ve obtained the coat it can be further customized by wearing it and doing other various things. Similar to how Destiny did with guns. To unlock various attachments you had to collect resources and get specific kills.

So you can change the color of your coat be collecting a specific material on a island to color it. Each island has different materials for different colors. Then you can unlock different things to customize the coat more. Get 500 skeleton kills and 30 pig kills to unlock a leather belt that goes across the chest. Do this again to make it double belts.

This could be done with all cosmetics even weapons. The possibilities could be endless and would really increase the personality that players can put into their pirates.
