Reaper's Grave Voyage Exploit

  • There was a post on Reddit that I think highlights an unintended exploit of the Reapers Grave Voyage to earn a ridiculous amount of gold in a very short period of time.

Since there are no cost to these voyages, there's no risk or limit to buying as many as you like... additionally they pay out over 1000 gold each when their delivery has expired.

This post claimed over 150,000 gold earned in just 2 hours due to this method.

I'm not going to link to the post or post a picture of their haul, but hopefully this is enough for Rare to consider. I think the gold value might need to be severely nerfed, or something.

  • @lethality1 I would suggest raising a support ticket and linking the evidence in that.

The support team doesn’t read the forums but I know the mods and Rare don’t like exploits or cheats being brought to light on them. :)

  • I was chatting with a buddy about it yesterday night and we both agreed that the intent was to increase player activity on shipwreck bay, which was why the voyage had been designed that way. For some of the commendations, you need to steal around 10 of those bonedust goodies. Shipwreck bay is now a notorious hotspot for player ambushes. The place is littered with ships ready to cut you down before you can even make it to land

  • @lethality1 gold is worthless anyways so who cares?

  • Does it really matter? You can't do anything with gold in this game other than buy cosmetics. Personally I'm sitting on 8 figures of the stuff with nothing to buy. If people are using them to power level merchants, I can see that being more of an issue.
As for farming gold, it's not even that much. When they had the double gold weekend, you could make a million in a night running gold animals. More if you were in an alliance doing the same.

  • There is nothing to spend the gold on so who cares?

    At this point getting gold
    Isn’t about getting stuff.

It’s just about collecting it so when your on a crew you can all talk about how you have 800k, the other guy has 7 million, other guy 2 million.

It’s almost like bragging about mileage

  • It's an exploit from a game design perspective...

I don't mean to say the person or people who did it are malicious... but knowing that it's an "easy path" (far quicker than any other method in the game) to earning gold means that it's likely unintended and overlooked, and will devalue gold even further - something they are trying to begin to fix with Duke's Black Market cosmetics.

It's simple - make the crates not worth any gold.. all fixed then right? If gold doesn't matter, why do you want it? :)

  • Not really an exploit since this is the reason for the short delivery time.

Did something similar on a brig the other night. All of us grabbed the Legnedary and Standard Shipwreck Bay voyages, so 17 crates each.

We made the rounds, turned most of them on time for a nice hefty lump of doubloons and small amount of gold.

Also... The doubloons are worth more than the gold, so letting it all expire isn't very smart.

    4 crates = 20 doubloons = 10k gold.
    4 x-crates = 6k gold.

Not the same experience for most. Most of the time there are hardly and ships any where. No one seems to care about these voyages. Just like the reaper chests. This event it the worse one yet and that is saying a lot since most of them have been lack luster for months.
