What is SoT supposed to look like? (EDIT IMAGES FIXED)

  • So before you point it out. I realize none of these shots are EXACTLY the same, and there's a whole host of variables that come in to play - But my question is a simple one.
What do the Devs imagine Sea of Thieves looking like?

My buddy and I both play on a One X, I have HDR but he does not. Our screenshots never look like what we see in-game (which I realize can be due to a lot of things) that being said even with My HDR off our games look vastly different and I'm sure this is due to the color calibration on our TVs.

Is there a baseline we can compare to try and get the most accurate color representation out of our respective games?

Here are some examples of my mine and my crewmates screenshots.

As always thanks for any feedback!!

Feel free to post your own shots below!

  • The images on the right best reflect what I see when I play :)

  • I play on P.C. and the images on the right look like what I am used to.

The left side images look horrible. O.o

  • It's interesting. It's not my area of expertise, but I'm keen to know :)

I play on a PC, no HDR, and by actual game screen looks very close to the images on the right.

The images on the left appear to have more contrast, and would suggest HDR is on but you said it is not. There also appear to be some hue-related issues on the images on the left. The player health meter is much more blue there than it should be, and the skin tones more red... but I'm not sure what could cause those changes :(

Following this topic with interest :)

  • I knew HDR was broken for this game. How can you have HDR looking actually worse than none HDR? Only at Rare

  • What it's supposed to look like depends on set ups. Console will never look like Pc. Some pc's look worse than consoles.
I don't max everything out as I go for 144hz@ 1440p and even the rtx 2080 won't accomplish that in this game, but it still looks like the picture on the right more. I have never looked into what goes into the xbox, so I can't speak on it.

Small things you can do, use your gpu control panels if on pc to correct coloring, brightness, hue, etc.. As far as things looking shinier that's honestly going to be on higher details.

  • @merlin257 the left to me looks like Xbox one s and I'm used to that to me it looks better

  • Turning off HDR10 on my xbox one x makes this game look insanely better, thats just madness. HDR10 for some reason makes this game muted and too dark

  • I just bought a Samsung 55" 4k HDR television and after messing around the settings..mind blown. Can not believe how good the game looks.. such color depth and all. Even the Wilds is a pleasure to watch. I'm gaming on Xbox One X.
