Remember those old pirate games like sea dogs, pirates of the caribbean etc, you go into battle and at the end your sails are in tatters?
Well its strange but in Sea of Thieves we always have pretty much immaculate sails.
My idea is to put to you a few uses for it and implement it into the game in various areas such as extended ship damage, player health and traversal.
Firstly, Sail cloth is a resourse you can find just like planks and has its own barrel on the ship.
Use 1)
Cannon fire through sails put a hole in them. This causes the ship to lose speed, up to 50% depending on damage. You must use this cloth to patch holes to regain max speed.
Use 2)
When fighting players with the sword sometimes you can get wounded and will bleed out. Use this cloth to bandage the wound. Understandably there doesnt need to be actual visible blood as kids play the game, but the mechanics would be nice. (This is my least favourite use and tbh not bothered if things stay as they are without this)
Use 3 (My favourite use for it)
Firing yourself out of a cannon with the maximum amount of cloth in your inventory will alow you to deploy a makeshift cloth parachute that will negate fall damage.
You can also steer it until it lands, so you could use it as a way to board. Careful though, one sniper bullet and it will cause you to fall.
In response to this, perhaps increase fall damage meaning no impromtu cannoning yourself
