Yer boat's been crashed!
Yer loot is strewn everywhere!
You hastily scrounge up your chests, throw them in your rowboat and escape into a nearby island. Say you're out of bananas and death is imminent, or a boat is on your tail and you have seconds to react.
Yes, storing them in an outcropped cove or cave could be decent, but why not keep them for later?
When you dig a hole with your shovel, you can drop your chest or gem inside and refill.
This can leave a mound so it's not too easy to spot but can be seen by you or a close prying pirate.
This hides the chest's flash to nearby boats, but if an enemy goes onto shore, they'll be able to see the mound of sand.
Over a period of five minutes, the chest flash can be seen more and more until the mound will give way and the chest can be seen in a mid-burried state.
Please say this is a good idea xD
Bury treasure?
This is a good idea xD
if...
... if I may suggest a small change: burying your treasures creates your own treasure maps in your inventory. Let's say they are summarized in a leather logbook, similar in appearance to the Tall-Tale pages. You can browse through them, see the islands and the crosses.
Since they are your personal property, they can also be stolen from you. If you die, the book will be released into the world. Either the opponent finds it or you come back.@generalbuckfoi said in Bury treasure?:
Let's say when you bury it, pirates outside of a three island radius receive a 'message in a bottle' type quest.
A way for other crews to find those buried items would definitely be needed. It would be cool if burying something left a mound akin to geysers but maybe smaller. That way you could still find items, but at least they would be a bit less visible and suppress the shiny glint from a distance.

Thanks for taking some kind of interest in my idea. Omg I feel tingly inside xD
Yeah, a little book seems nice, and yes...the message in the bottle seems good! Sent by jealous skeletons!
Mounds should be a good feature, too.Would be interesting if there was a quest line for the order of souls to bury relics/items of value until a later date.
Could tie it into some story line/event as well. Maybe you only get the payout/reward after a set timer has elapsed and no pirates have found it. Maybe your ship is marked while you transport the treasure to other places, but once off the ship it's invisible again. Then players have a reason to search where you put it on land, and explore the island.
Would be an interesting way to earn doubloons or ancient coins as an incremental activity you do and have players looks for hidden spots out of the way.
Good suggestion! I love the idea of hiding treasure! Fits in with the lore of the core game too!
@likavoss
A bit late, but quests to bury treasure - hell yes!
If you're looking for another ship's treasure, you could get a treasure map with a rough outline on where it could be on the island - some massive places could take hours to dig out. Maybe you can find the previous player's footprints, leading you to the location, too.
Maybe.I have always wanted to bury my treasure in an emergency.
Some ideas
What if when burring treasure it populates a treasure map in your wheel. And upon being killed whoever kills you receives that treasure map.
Once burying treasure you could create a message in a bottle for someone to find. Maybe when you sink it spawns a message in a bottle.
