ADS & Sword Block is Completely Broken Hotfix Immediately

  • When switching weapons or holding down ads through reload the game no longer realizes you are holding right click or left trigger. I reported this in insider but this results in the most frustrating kind of combat where you cannot aim down sight to shoot your weapon or block on command. This, when combined with long weapon swap times (even when you haven’t shot) makes the combat extremely clunky. It feels like you are fighting against the game just to get a single shot off. I’ve never played a game that has felt this clunky.

Knowing how rare addresses game breaking bugs, this won’t be addressed for at least a month. Are we seriously supposed to suffer through bugs like this or invincible ladders for a month? Are hot fixes not possible?

Please, fix this bug ASAP with a hot fix. I’m tired of suffering through clunky/broken/bugged combat waiting a month for an update only for it to create a new bug that won’t be fixed for another month. I was nervous about this update for this reason. With this kind of track record, I think it's safe to assume that this is a pattern that we could expect for the foreseeable future. A hotfix would put an end to that assumption. It seems with each update things get more clunky and less responsive.

Also, side note, the weapon swap delay should only be enabled IF and only IF you have shot your weapon. That should go without saying...

  • I think the ADS thing is also why the spyglass is currently quite, as you aptly put it, very clunky. It seems to be when you don't use it for awhile and switch to it, that first ADS command doesn't work. Then it will be fine for awhile until you forget about it and then go to use the spyglass again.

It's just super irritating how unresponsive these things are becoming.

  • @realstyli It seems we can expect the game to get less and less responsive with each update.

Possibly, but I have put in a bug report for the spyglass and I encourage anyone else experiencing ADS or spyglass issues to do the same.

But did you report it on the support site? If you did it's quite bad this bug is still in it. If you reported in on the insider forum then your fault. Insider forums are for feedback around balancing. They dont read it for bugs. If you create a support ticket on https://support.seaofthieves.com/hc/en-gb/requests/new their is also an type of report for bugs in insider.

Yes, rare breaking their game consistently is my fault.

No, but you not correctly reporting bugs is ;)

  • Sorry, but I hate acronyms. What is ADS?

I’m not sure if this is related, but it did seem like I was having trouble getting my sword out in combat. The hit reg is great (I was mostly on the receiving end) but I don’t think I ever managed a single sword parry. Something definitely felt “off” but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.

  • @genuine-heather Aim down sight.

Dude, Tart... I logged on for 5 minutes to test the new updates and immediately closed the game. What an absolute joke. Half the time the secondary weapon doesn't draw. Does Rare even play the game? Every damn update forces us to adjust our play style. I thought this was something they were TESTING in Insiders, but the fact that this is live in the game and marked as a "fix" is an utter embarrassment. Get it together Rare.

  • Please report this as a bug the proper way with the link posted above.

  • @rokm-sokm-rabbi Of course - but that doesn't put any social pressure on them.

  • @tart-tee oh no :o you have to let go and press a button again instead of just holding it down! How tragic

If you don't see a problem with your weapon not being able to ADS, then you probably have excellent chest digging and skeleton killing skills. This is a major PvP issue, especially in the Arena, where fighting other skilled players, this stuff matters, hugely.

  • @the-human-dan it ads a button press for everyone so no, I dont see the problem as someone who takes pride in my PvP ability.

Infact this is a good thing as it asks for a new input after the swap delay and demands more timed inputs than just long pressing a button.

Maybe its intentional, maybe its not I just dont think its worth whining over

Theres always a guy like this ^

"Pressing ADS and it not ADSing is not a bug, I like it and it's not worth whining over!"

    LOL

  • @tart-tee I was experiencing this as well, mostly with my telescope.

However to hear you complain about the ladder glitch when you took advantage of it is fairly comical. With that said you and your crew are beasts and I hope to see you on the sees again.

  • @RattlyFob every single successful fps game does not agree with you...

  • @iii-porker-iii "taking advantage" of mechanic that is broken while hating the fact that it IS broken does not a paradox make.

It's bug, not intentional. If it was intentional, it would happen every single time, not randomly and inconsistently.

  • @tart-tee LOL, at least a month! yeah right. That implies a fix in the very next patch! It'll be at least 4 months xD

  • @xcalypt0x
4 months? Comon now.... you know it will be christmas of next year!
The sinking barrels bug has been around since the start. Still not fixed.

  • @realstyli from the first post: >When switching weapons or holding down ads through reload the game no longer realizes you are holding right click or left trigger.>

Sounds like it happens everytime and as I have not had problems ads or blocking after I switch weapons I would say that this is accurate. Leading me to believe that it is consistant enough to be a feature and not a bug. I could be wrong but have no evidence to believe otherwise

  • @rattlyfob How about the patch notes.

If you think ADS not working is a "feature"....

To be quite clear, this is absolutely a bug... and I'm not in uproar because it's just affecting ADS for quickscopes (that's not something I do as a PvE-centric player), the same issue is affecting all item uses. In my case, the spyglass is driving me crazy with this inconsistency. If I take an item out, I expect to be able to use it immediately - if there is a delay, fine, as long as it's there every time. This is not there every time.

If you look elsewhere on the forums, you will see people complaining about other items not being able to be used - such as food. I didn't get injured enough in my session yesterday to notice this much but there were a couple of times I could have sworn I clicked to eat my fruit and it didn't do it. It's less clear though, as there was always a problem when trying to eat while in movement.

  • Hand-to-hand Combat has always been sub-par in the this game. However it has continued to get clunkier and more bogged down since launch?

Every change so far has felt like one step forward and two steps back.

  • @tart-tee Thank you for raising this issue, we investigated it from insiders and are working on a fix. I understand the frustrations around this issue and we look to get this resolved ASAP.

    Thank you for your patience.

  • @iii-porker-iii there is no such thing as "the ladder glitch" you literally cant avoid doing it. Its just bad moving hitreg. You dont do anything other than climb the ladder. So technically you used it too if you grabbed a ladder in the month when rare wasn't fixing it.

I appreciate the response, I really do, but in my support ticket I got a very different response that suggests it will be released in one of the monthly updates. My question is why should we continue to wait for fixes for a month or more when there is nearly a 100% chance there will be a new bug upon release and this whole process will restart again?

That’s mostly rhetorical - as it can only be answered by a change in action by rare in the form of a hot fix.

I reported this problem in Insiders... but it was still released into the live game?

With respect, that's just not acceptable. Every update that has been released in the last few months has broken something on the PvP end.

I love this game, and I will give you guys full credit where it's due... but we're starting to fear updates, rather than look forward to them.

You now have countless PC players frustrated right now. It's unfair, and candidly, just plain unprofessional to make us wait for a fix that involves a core mechanic we've been used to since the game came out.

I know you guys are working hard over there, but please just come out and say "Listen, we hear you guys, and we're going to expedite a fix into the live game."

Otherwise we just hear "Yeah we know it's broken, but we will get it to when we get it to it!"

Please please see what you can do to push this live asap!

  • Glad to see this post & an actual response from Rare, but there really is a long way to go for this game now that it's taken 3 steps backward. So many people are leaving this game because of the way combat mechanics are being messed with. Stop making the game feel worse to "fix" mechanics. It's a really backwards method that's ruining the game. Look at arena population... Game is dying. It's sad.

  • All your concerns are valid. Whilst we are working on a fix, this is a complicated system and we want to ensure we don't regress it further. When I know the exact time we can get a fix out I will let you know.

Thanks again for your honesty and feedback, it helps us action these issues faster.

  • @moronicstraw

Thanks for replying to us in the thread. It is hugely appreciated by a lot of us, I'm sure. It often feels like we're talking to a wall here and forgotten about (I understand there may be certain protocols that limit interactions, I'm not blaming anyone), so it's great to get a public response of any kind.

Thank you, and the Rare crew, for your very hard work.
