This may be a tricky thing to implement because of toxicity. however the Galleon already has place for a name above the captians quarters. It seems that it would add more personality to a ship
Make it possible to name your ship
@kolt45mm As you've already stated, naming the ship would be extremely difficult to implement, because:
- It needs to be troll/insult-proof
- Lots of players would just name their ships like: xYYXdADllkwwD or someother nonsense, which would be really anticlimatic and against the intent of the whole idea.
- Changeability: Naming the ship should be available once per a server and by someone authorized by the whole crew. (probably add a captain role with higher authority, that could be voted by your crew?)
Before the developers originally changed the content roadmap, at launch the first update was going to be the “Captaincy” update where you would of been able to name your own ship then.
However this got benched and we haven’t really heard anything since. Although I’m fairly certain Rare are aware that naming ships is a community request. It has been asked for a lot.
So I’m presuming it will be a mater of when not it. :)@kolt45mm They could just have ship names pickable then. Meaning you would unlock different ship names based on achievements you've completed or buyable with dablooms like the special sails, flags, and such. This would eliminate the toxicity your talking about...would also eliminate a totally custom name as well though. Better then no names at all which is where we are at now though.
Joe Neate said in a E3 interview that this was going to come eventually. As we are going to be able to make our pets, they can reuse that code for ship naming.

@aithemed exactly. Would give pirates a goal as well. Rare ship names that when others see it let's them know these people know what they are doing and mean business. Some much rarer ones would be better as well. I mean look at the ghost meg, super rare with a super rare tile to go with it. The majority of people seem to be on board with that. Adds the feeling of being special to those that seek that.
This has been requested for so long I can’t even remember. The banners above the captains quarters has been there since beta. I believe at one time there were rumors this would happen and the interaction with your ship to name it would be the model of a boat in the captains quarters. If this was ever true I have no clue.
@zombie-p1ague yeah, I'm surprised it hasn't happened already. Seems like a fairly straightforward addon, but maybe they are planning somthing fantastic. One can dream I suppose.
On a side note I think a ship name might make me feel more attached to the ship. Currently when it goes down I'm more like "meh."

I think and hope they have set names for each in game achievement you have acquired. This would keep idiots from making stupid inappropriate names. A lot of kids play this games we don’t need ships with inappropriate names.@nefroxius What's difficult in cencoring?

Cencoring program is a child's play to implement cencoring program and if someone have managed to write something racict and or extreme we can just report on him.
Why do we need to abandon a great little feature because we are afraid to hear a bad word? We are not saints so please enough acting like cupcakes.
And naming the ship should be in a voting system one person dont need to have more power.
