180 degree spin

  • Could we add a 180 degree character spin if we click down the right Thumbstick (Xbox) please? Would be useful when going down a tunnel and coming face to face with a skelly carrying a GPK, just a quick spin on the ball of your foot and hightail it outta there. Not really needed for PC because the PC player can do this anyway with a quick sweep of the mouse.

Also good for checking behind you for lucking pirates or trying to keep watch in 2 directions at once. Just the xbox 180 degree turn time can be a little long in an emergency.

For example, when I let go of the wheel and head into the cabin of a sloop to grab items or check the map, I'll jump over the handrail and enter the cabin backwards because turning around is too slow. I'd like to be able to jump and 180 in mid-air so I'm facing my intended direction of travel

  • What's your sensitivity at mate? I play xbox and I've got no problem turning, I'd advise just to turn up your sensitivity to atleast 9 and you shouldn't have an issue

  • @ufc-wolverin3 Yeah I could turn it up I guess. I've been playing as it is for over a year though and I quite like how it's set. (Probably part of the reason I'm not great at PvP :D)

I played Doom a while back and that was really fast. I didn't really like it - it felt unnatural. I guess, I like the current setting because it feels real. I think turning it up would annoy me, till I got used to it.

I guess, I just want a way that I can keep it as it is, because that's what I'm used to but have the ability to spin around quickly

Pro Players on PC dont turn sensivity aka DPI up, i know a lot of FPS players play on 400-800 DPI and use more of the movement of the arm to make fast turns etc...
The cause is very simple, if you play on high DPI or sensivity you will twist the moment you pull the trigger/ click the button and shoot somewhere else, but not where you have been aiming at.
With larger hitboxes maybe not that big problem, but the fast play of some shooter players comes not from high DPI settings, but mouse/arm movement.

So not comparable to high sensitivity with a controller.
I recommend to buy kb&m if you want to be competetive.

  • @bugaboo-bill It's not so much that I want to be competitive in PvP. I'm actually really happy with how I compete against other players. I prefer the turn and run tactic. If I'm avoiding noobs, they'll normally end up beaching themselves trying to follow me, in which case I'll sink them.
Just want to play as I'm playing now, but with the ability to do a 180 quickly and clicking the right Thumbstick is currently unused in the starting layout.

can we use that feature to argue against the crossplay debate then?
    :D

I would think its ok, dont even need that for mouse, but they can give it also to mouse players when clicking the mousewheel.

    edit:
when i think of it more in detail, i'd like to have the option to turn my head only while running forward.

  • i'm lazy and so I don't want to feel like I'm performing aerobic exercises to use my mouse. If I'm using a controller (which primarily I am) I make very VERY finite adjustments to the analog sticks. This is just a skill that has to be picked up over time.

I play on max sensitivity and suffer no drawbacks since my movements are very precise and very delicate. You dont want to even know what DPI I play on.

as far as asking for RS click to do anything specific... I already have enough trouble currently trying to to compete with the keyboard's keybindings. My RS is assigned to emotes.

Don't take that away from me.

  • @wydyadoit You can always set the controls how you want. You wouldn't have to assign a control to the 180 spin if you felt you didn't need it and you'd be able to keep your RS assigned to emotes.

The 180 spin wouldn't really give anyone a "fighting edge" it would just be a "Quality of life" improvement to you average Joe gamer who doesn't want to spend ages tweaking their gaming controls.

LOL.... I think they're more competitive players out than me, that wouldn't see this feature as an adequate enough benefit to end the crossplay argument.

I would be cool to be able to turn your head as your still running forward, I guess you can get the kind of same affect by turning and strafing.

  • @guybrush3pwood2

regarding crossplay it was more of a joke - i fear this as it will split the community further, but i completely understand it, but would do this regarding the input method if possible as i know PC players playing on their couch in front of TV with a 360 controler for PC, i have done that by myself and can switch immediately as i play on a Laptop and just need to plugin HDMI and Controller to play like i'm on xbox.

I made a thread for the free look option, check recent threads.
You cn strafe for sure, but if you have ever played games who suport that, its not the same and i should maybe have said sprinting not running ;)

  • @Guybrush3pwood2
if you're requesting a new action that can be mapped then sure. I read it as "make RS click do this function and only this function"

similar to how menu and view can only open the options and UI.

  • @wydyadoit Yep, just another mappable function. Sorry, I should've probably been clearer in my original post

  • @guybrush3pwood2
Good idea! This would be helpful for sure. It would be useful on pc also imo, at least from my experience with other games
