Gather 'round and listen to a tale of woe and fail. Ye may not be as superstitious as this little lass, but ye may not want to use the Obsidian gear on yer ship.
So I watched the streams and got the gear. Eagerly I decorated my ship with the smart new livery and installed the headpiece. I'm bold and raise my Reaper's Mark and activate the voyage. All goes well it would seem, a ship flying alliance flag sails by and requests I join. Being a pacifist and liking to know where as many ships are I can, I eagerly join ( I believe this may have cost me my Reaper's Run, would appreciate feedback) Oh ho ho! They turn in lots of loot, get about 50k from my cut, including some Athena rep, I'm not PL yet so it's always a pleasant surprise! I go on about my voyage, complete 1 or two stops (including turn ins so I'm contributing to the alliance) when my luck changes like the weather. Sailing to Galleon's Grave, a scurvy dog boards me and kills me (cause frankly I'm low health and the alliance was 3 ships strong and I'm feeling kinda safe...) and gets a nice haul of a stronghold kegger and a gem and a pile of merchant cargo. I rage quit the server and start over.
I switch back to my usual livery. Bear and Bird, Imperial Sovereign, and plain black sails, raise me Reaper's Mark and set sail again.
Those fickle lovers, Fate, Karma and Luck decide I should continue to pay for my previous windfall and I dropped the wrong voyage and have to sail to the western side of the map. I go to my galley to whip up some canned tuna (irl, I was hungry lol) and when I come back I'm being blasted and boarded again!!! Being a little bit of a lily liver, I scuttle and hope for a favourable respawn...only halfway there.... ugh. I do manage to complete my voyage but I don't get credit with that Drunkard Duke for doing so. Being familiar with the slow responses I figure I'll login to a second completion.
I watch that horrid Twitch witchery and get the sails and flag, wait till late in the day and set about getting a couple more Reapers in. Still didn't get credit for completing with an alliance apparently. I decorate with the Obsidian livery and sails (I do like those sails and the flag...) and Bear and Bird. Raise me mark, post me voyage and have a relatively simple time completing 2 parts. A storm breaks over me and since I hadn't found a rowboat, my kegs (including a stronghold...) are tucked away in me crow's nest. The storm sets upon me and curse it all Thor decides my crow's nest should take a hit. I sail under storms frequently for the lulz mates and rarely take a lightning strike, much less on the crow'snest...
Except this time.
Obsidian Livery and Sails.
Kaboom.
Blows me too far off my ship and she has enough momentum to get far enough away I can't get back and save her. I do respawn on Mauraders with 3 green gems on the beach so a little balancing out. Damned if the same storm doesn't come after me again while Im dropping the gems off at Galleon's Grave. I leave West heading for Kraken Watchtower and who shows up but the nasty ol' Kraken. I don't feel like dealing with it, so I scuttle, swim out of it's inky offal and find a Merperson to get back to my respawn. That filthy beast drops me back in the middle of the ink!!! Luckily another Merperson fetches me to my ship and I manage to finish the Reaper's Mark voyage another (friggin 3rd time!!!!!) time and I lollygag about to get credit. I got my tick with ol' Dukey boi, and high tail it out of that sever.
Hopefully me luck changes back to "no luck" and I can get me last 3 Reaper's Mark voyages done with little excitement...but mateys be careful putting that Obsidian gear on yer ship.I'm tellin' ye it's cursed!!!
(Stumbles out of the tavern and collapses under a bush)

I realize quitting the server cost me that Reaper's Run not the alliance btw, but would still like to know if joining an alliance will affect my Reaper's Run...i still have 3 more to do and it really should only be 2 grumble, grumble...
