Post Legend Content - Defending the Sea from the Past

  • Okay… This idea is Waaaaay out there. Okay, when you became a Legend "was" the first time you really encountered "ghosts"... Now it wouldn't be a far flung idea to think that, "if there are ghost pirates, there are also ghost monsters of the deep, long forgotten but still thirsty for the taste of pirate".

So the missions are largely taking down huge historical horrors of the sea, but only A pirate Legend can see them due to their exposure to the Legendary Hideout and The Pirate Lord.

Each mission would revolve around the naming of an Island or appearance... So if you got the mission "Defeat the Kraken of Legends" you'd go to Krakens fall... On approach the island would split, the physical Island would still be there, but out of the land would emerge a HUGE Ghost Kraken.

These Ghost monstrosities could only damage a ship on that current quest and the monster would appear invisible to any non-Legend. So to any other "non-legend" player it would look like a Legend had gone mad and was fighting thin air.

Snake Island would morph into a Huge leviathan... For some comedy, chicken Isle would spawn a Gigantic ghost chicken, A huge evil ghost ship would emerge from Crooked Masts, Shipwreck bay would look like a Giant Sarlacc (from star wars)….

The initial quests would be the smaller isles, twin groves, defeat 2 Megalodons at the same time, Rapier Cay could be a flying fire breathing Phoenix and the very, very final boss... has to be.... The isle of Last words! A fight with the pirate Grim Reaper. The surrounding rocks are really just points to his crown.

nice idea but i wonder if they could code it

The ghosts seen are there because of specific interactions with the Ferry of the Damned which are not fully understood. Perhaps lighting a beacon with the Ferryman's lantern (the one from the Tale of the Morningstar) could show these, however interacting with them would not be possible.

  • @ultmateragnarok he’s talking before tall tales, all the way back when the Pirate Lord and his crew were the only ghosts on land. Also, the lantern doesn’t show “ghost” when you think about it. It only showed past events that showed the story of them lost souls. Perhaps I forgot how the lantern is described to work if what said is wrong.

    Spoiler for wild rose.

Edit: Wild Rose shows ghosts at the end of those trapped lovers

  • @guybrush3pwood2
I like it! Maybe members of the legends crew who are no legends can see it still. And maybe you fight the reaper as an Athena 10 to get a reward, maybe ghost weapons.

  • @weststormborn

The Pirate Lord and his crew, again, are the only ghosts because they had an uncommon interaction with the Ferry, where they have 'passed on' but remained in this world. How this happens is not fully explained, but the sea creatures, when they actually die, do not go to the Ferry in the first place, skipping that step altogether. It is true that the lantern only shows the past, which is why I said that while seeing that would be possible, it wouldn't be something you can interact with.

  • @guybrush3pwood2 I'm not very well versed in the lore of this game so not sure about the limitations of that from what some other people have already mentioned but this idea sounds like an absolute blast! I'm all for it if its possible.

  • @ultmateragnarok Being a fictional game full of magic, sea monsters and fantasy, isn't anything possible? Just add a little more lore (really really really ancient lore) to the SOT. As long as it doesn't break the lore we already have.

Perhaps these beasts were cursed to spend an eternity turned to rock and stone and over time they became the islands we now know... but they're still trying to break the curse and The Pirate Legends have always fought to keep them back.

  • @guybrush3pwood2

That could work, perhaps with the recent increase in activity in that realm, or just another skeleton lord trying to awaken them.

I was simply saying they couldn't have been some random ones that made it there by chance, someone would have had to put them there.

  • @guybrush3pwood2 by the way wanted to say that I've seen a lot of your posts on here for a while and you've really come up with some really good and creative ideas for this game... I think Rare should bring ya on as an adviser or something lol. But with the username you have something tells me you've been thinking about pirating for a very long long time like myself lol... keep up the good work

  • @jza16 lol, thanks! :D
You're not the first pirate to suggest Rare should do this. Something like that would 100% be my dream job, but I'm not holding my breath.

If I ever got an offer of employment it would probably feel like being invited to study at Hogwarts!!!

I imagine they've got a whole hoard of creative thinkers already there and if they ever get writers block they've always got this forum.

Yep, I've always loved pirate games and Sea Of Thieves is the closest any developer has come to producing my perfect game.

  • @jza16 @Guybrush3pwood2

The forums users essentially are their advisors. Many parts of the game are simply them listening (and delivering) to the community. The dev team do contribute their own ideas too of course, but this is pretty much their main source of ideas.

  • @ultmateragnarok lol.... yep, I've said before they probably like the relationship we've currently got. Ideas for freeeeeeeee!!!

I'd just be well happy to see something which vaguely resembled one of my posts appear in game, that would be soo cool.

  • @ultmateragnarok actually a certain trinket lets the Athena fortune crew remain in the sea of thieves as ghost. I read the book which is connected to the lore of the game. This is also supported by the concept art book as well. The trinket which is a necklace btw is replaced in game with an Athena necklace. Unless it’s been awhile since I visited and both the reaper necklace and Athena necklace are on him.
