Anti-Cheat Measures Are Necessary

  • Last night was 1 of many situations my friends and I encountered over the last 2-3 weeks, where players have been utilizing exploits and hacks, looking very obviously ridiculous and absurd. I'm not 100% sure why people are willing to cheat a game with no stats or financially lucritive value (loot boxes, etc.), but it has become a nuisance.

Last night, my friends and I encountered a 3-player group on a Brigantine, using a variety of hacks and exploits.

    • 2 of the players were using a speed hack that not only allowed them to move at ludicrous speeds, but also swing their swords at a much faster rate.

    • 1 of the players had spawned multiple gunpowder barrels at will, when their ship had no barrels on-board. One moment he had empty hands and the next, as if by pure magic, a barrel was in his hands.

    • All 3 were using, what I'm assuming is an exploit, a way to never run out of agility. They just kept swinging their swords to no end. This is the most commom cheat I've seen people use, but when combined with their speed hack, made them almost invincible.

    • Not sure if this is a hack or an exploit, but all 3 of them were jumping incredibly high, as if doing a 10 foot jump. Again, combined with the speed hack, made them nearly impossible to kill.

2 of the 3 accounts had no more than 350 Gamerscore, which means they most likely either have alternate accounts or were banned on their previous accounts. There needs to be a surefire reporting system and/or manner of investigating reports of cheaters in a more timely fashion. Also, some of these cheaters (if not all) need permanent bans. MAC ban? IP ban? Something that will prevent them from returning.

  • When this occurs, please report them to Rare's Support Team, and try to take a video clip recording showcasing proof, as well as their gamertags (but don't show that here, as I'm fairly certain it breaks forum rules).

  • Where’s the video proof?

  • @marsmayflower

You know they can't post something like that on the forum!

    Don't bait..

  • @needsmokes yea, I know.... very convenient

  • @marsmayflower

    Sadly cheats do exist..

Let's hope the OP gained the names and can report them and help us all to a better gaming experience.

  • Hold up a second this explains a lot of issues that me and my best friend have had!!!

We encountered players with the sword hacks/cheats! Not sure if you can get hacks on Xbox so we have assumed they’re PC (she even said they were swinging a lot faster than we ever could which wasn’t normal).

Is there also a health hack or cheat of some kind? Because I’ve had a few times where I knew someone should’ve been dead but they weren’t which originally had me suspecting the damage output on weapons suddenly started to vary, but it makes more sense that they might’ve had cheats (one ship was chasing me for an hour thereabouts and I knew I couldn’t fight back so I kept running and I had an entire Athena’s voyage on the ship cuz I was waiting for my best friend to get on so she could have the XP. I managed to board them without them realizing it, and despite that I hit one with the Eye of Reach point blank (80% damage per bullet), and then immediately switched to a sword, he just stood there and ate a banana and didn’t die. 1) there’s a delay between eating and gaining health back. 2) I got two sword swings in before he ate the banana and he finished eating the banana by the third swing. 80% damage from eye of reach. Apparently the sword is weak if the enemy is shot with a gun.

Not sure if you can get hacks on Xbox

It's difficult because less support exists for it, but it's possible. The X-box operating system is essentially Win10 with a different GUI and some alternate options.

Given the willpower and a little bit of time these kind of filth can hack the X-box.

Thankfully updates take care of these worms for a bit, but given enough determination and time they come back like roaches.

  • @swimplatypus7

grabs the steel toed boots where these roaches at???

Still it’s horrible people can and do, do that! Ruins the game for everyone else

  • @agent-samuraii

Crossplay is soon to be coming, (watch today's Dev update) so if you play on console, you can select to be matched with other console players, You will notice a big difference in your gaming sessions and the idea of cheats being in your game will be put to bed.

Most of it isn't cheating or hacks, just a massive disparity between console & controller and PC and mouse & keyboard which gives you the illusion that you are running in tar and swinging a sledge hammer in comparison.

  • @needsmokes

Okay here’s the thing MANY people on these forums, have told me that there’s no major difference between PC and Xbox so hearing someone else say it confuses me...

Is there noticeable differences between PC gameplay and Xbox gameplay?

  • @agent-samuraii

There is a way you can view this for yourself..

Watch any 3 streamers play for 15 minutes each on each platform.. and then tell me there is no difference.
It is now night and day different.
This forum has a large percentage of active PC players and they haven't wanted to lose their easy mode for a long time.. But it's finally happening and they will have to get gud to get the kill rates they have enjoyed for so long now.

  • @needsmokes The option concerning cross play is only a preference and it is only for Arena for the time being. This means the game will attempt to match you with Arena players using a controller on Xbox if it can, but if it does not detect enough others preferring no cross-play then it will place you in the general queues. Normal (aka Adventure) mode will work exactly as it does now.

  • @ghostpaw

Only for now, opt out is coming for that too.. I would prefer it for adventure over a throw away arena mode anyday.

  • I wouldn't believe half of what people claim as cheats without proof. Spawning objects would require you to be able to tell the server to create those objects, since these things are controlled and uniquely identified on the server side, and funnily enough none of the cheats you can find on the internet advertise server side object spawning (nor do they advertise teleportation or speed increases).

I imagine if they were trying to sell their product they would include these much desired features in the descriptions.

dude if you remember their names write a support ticket

  • @needsmokes

So I’m assuming a lot of the salty people who keep being jerks to those who are frustrated with PvP are the ones who are on PC?

  • @agent-samuraii

I choose not to answer a question worded such as yours is.

Whilst there might be many a disagreement on these forums about various topics.
Let's try to keep it a little more polite to others shall we.

  • @needsmokes

It’s ironic considering how impolite those people have been simply because of an opinion they hate.

I’ll just assume the answer is “yes”, then.

  • @agent-samuraii Actually the EoR now only does 70% with sword swings getting you 20%. In all likelihood, he actually finished eating the banana before you actually saw it due to syncing issues, which likely saved his life.

  • @galactic-geek

That’s not fair to us console players at all!! (The syncing issue).

I was never aware that they changed the damage like when was that a thing???

  • @agent-samuraii They changed it when they nerfed the EoR's accuracy.

    For future reference:
    Sword slash 20
    Sword lunge 50
    Flintlock 50
    EoR 70
    Blunderbuss 10/pellet (10 pellets total)

I know its on the way, but what difference will it make when running the game from an SSD ON X- box provides a game changing advantage?

Will they further segregate the players?

What also of the players who have the Elite controller? This again is a massive advantage? Will they further segregate and fracture the community for this?

How about the X box players that use a mouse and keyboard? I hear this is now supported.

No matter the intent; there will never be an equal playing field no matter what is attempted.

  • @swimplatypus7 99.9 percent of the time it is bad game mechanics and not cheating stop crying and just play!!!!!!

  • @swimplatypus7

Don't care about any of that.
None of it even compares to the disadvantage we have been suffering at the hands on forced crossplay for so long now. And now we will know we will never encounter hacks/cheats on the seas either which occasionally we have been paired with PCs.
Xbox Vs Xbox combat is brilliant fun. No matter what hardware version or controller they use. It's all about a level playing field or as close to one as you can get.
PC's just don't belong on Xbox live and let's hope this is just a small step towards Microsoft realising that.
I never want to experience forced crossplay on any other game ever again. It sucks!!!

  • @needsmokes you are a cry baby!!!!! i get wrecked by console players all the time!!! you are just bad if its that much of an advantage why don't you use keyboard and mouse and just stop crying!!!!!

  • @polktergeist

Awwww, your losing your easy mode. I understand your anger..
And I have never once in any thread suggested I get beaten lots.
But I will stand up for fair play. And having PCs on Xbox live is not fair play.
So make the most of this last few weeks. So many of us will soon be invisible to you! Bon voyage!

Edit: Xbox is sold with a controller..
    Not a K&M.

  • @needsmokes Its nothing to do with easy mode its to do with loosing 75 percent of the community to interact with. It will 100 percent kill this game for PC players there are not enough of us to sustain a legit community. the servers would be empty every time. arena already has trouble with match making. i wish better player would start playing more but hey look whats being prioritized in the development!!!!

  • @polktergeist said in Anti-Cheat Measures Are Necessary:

I do believe you interpreted my post incorrectly.

While I agree that most of the time it's just game glitches, and I have seen....... what.. maybe 3 actual hackers in over a year of playing this game.

Dealing with cheaters is however very important. Failing to do so is the death sentence for a game because once the cheating gets bad and a lot of people are doing it; then all the real players leave the game.

I saw this same situation take place in several FPS games I once enjoyed but quit them because of cheating filth.

Again I have seen just a hand full of actual cheaters in over a year; IMO they're doing a good job so far, but can that be improved? YES.

  • With my sensitivity settings and the elite controller, I feel that I play almost as fast as pc streamers I watch. Aiming with a gun isn’t as precise though but it isn’t a huge deal in this game- I use gunplay as a last resort.

Dude, it's not even remotely comparable. I trash PC players typically because most are bad... The good ones get me not because of their mouse and keyboard, but because they're better players; simple as that, just like better players on X-box get me because they're superior players.

If you don't think the SSD makes a difference I DARE you to go buy one, install Sea of Thieves on that SSD and play for a bit..

Come back and tell me those nearly instant load times (comparatively) don't make a massive difference in PVP.

Additionally, buy an X-box elite controller and map your Jump and Sprint to the bottom additional paddles (mirror mapping needs to be the D-pad because you're replacing certain button locations)

The one advantage the PC has is the ability to Sprint / Jump while on the move with out the need to take your fingers away from important controls like the ability to strafe.

This is why the Elite controller is so good, if you don't map it's buttons properly then it's just an expensive controller.. If you do map properly it's God mode.

The Elite controller in addition to the SSD is such an advantage that I assure you once the little babies get their way and segregate them selves behind a Non-Cross platform wall, the next thing on the list will be players like me who have an SSD or and Elite controller or both..

Mark my words, these things do make a massive difference and it's not even remotely fair how big a difference it actually is.

  • @swimplatypus7 yup, the elite with jump and sprint on the paddles let’s me run circles around other Xbox players, literally.

  • @d3adst1ck We had nothing on board, actually. We were docked at Golden Sands, just formed our group when they hit. Why would I have to lie about cheaters when I haven't even pointed a finger at people? Your logic is asinine.

  • @marsmayflower

Exactly, and with the SSD you don't wait on stock X-box load times either.. It's like playing an entirely different game.

But these guys want to segregate them selves behind an X-box wall, and don't realize there is no way to avoid their plights, the same sort of hardware advantage exists behind that X-box only wall, and no matter how well intended the idea is, it will never satisfy the desires made by those who want a so called level playing field.

Normally you are right but there are some people who hack the game and cheat the system. Those computer hacks can ruin the servers

I saw a video of a computer player who hacked the game and inserted a GPS and speedometer. He used it to show the difference between the 3 ships in different wind conditions. He refused to tell people how he did it but the video clearly shows that hacking the game is possible.

I’m not claiming that all computer players are hacking the game but console players can’t hack the game. (At least to my knowledge)
