Just suggesting a new item for the radial wheel. A mermaid summoning conch shell. Instead of mermaids spawning via proximity. Why not have the player use a conch shell that is blown into like a horn. The sound of the horn summons a mermaid in the water via proximity like usual. This could help with sneaky raids, and stealthy gameplay.

Think about the other side of the game - how is anyone supposed to be able to tell when someone is hiding somewhere? Looking for the mermaids is an integral part of the game, and relocating them is easy if you have the time.
