Ways for crews larger than 4 to play

  • I'm sure that I cant be the only one who wants this. I understand the limitations about a single crew taking over a server and trolling/griefing the rest of them, but I feel that maybe private servers or bigger ships would be an alternative. There is already the server hopping technique which with time can accomplish the same thing, so why not just make it a mechanic in the game already?

  • I feel like the game could quickly lose balance if a 6 or 8 man ship was introduced. You could have 4 on cannons and 2 boarding... Or worse, 4 and 4. In order to balance it out, the larger ship would have to be a total donk. Private servers are a horrible idea in my opinion.

As it is now, you can have two galleons in the same server if you spend time joining over and over again with 8 people. That takes some effort in itself, and isn't much different than finding another ship in game and forming an alliance, retaining "friendly fire" possibilities if they are attacking the same objective.

I'm all for a bigger ship, I just don't see how it could fit the current meta of the game.

  • You can only have 2 Galleons per server?

Game just needs more ships/players per server!

  • @neon-revolvr maybe we don't need that, a galleon has four cannons on each side. almost all the time the whole crew won't be on all of the four cannons (one has to steer, one or two have to probably repair in a battle, one has to angle/raise/drop the sails) so why not just increase the player capacity on on the galleon? what do you think?🤔

  • @glannigan said in Ways for crews larger than 4 to play:

You can only have 2 Galleons per server?

    Who said that?

  • You can have 6 Galleons per Server.
You can also have 6 Sloops per Server.
It's 6 Ships / Crews per Server and that is to balance the whole thing and make it not that you alltime see a ship on the horizon.
It's perfectly balanced if you join a full server.
If you increase it you will see ships all day and everywhere.
When you want to allow more ships you also need more Outposts. Or do you want to spawn at an OP with another ship maybe full equiped or do you want to go to sell your stuff and ship No. 7 is popping up in front of you because all other Outposts have already a parked ship there?

What we want is full servers.
Servers are barely full, but only have 3-5 ships on it, not 6.
That's also a regional issue and the count of the playerbase.
You shouldnt match to a server in a Region far away just for the sake of a full server, because the issues with latency will just spoil every encounter you are after when you want more ships.

A bigger Ship is hardly to balance.
It need to be super slow and maneuverable, but with a big crew you can steamroll everybody else.
You make a ship unsinkable if 4 players repair and bail only for example.
In the end i say a bigger ship is imbalanced or not fun to play, because of the neccessary balancing. They can try it, but that would be a waste of development ressources. You barely see Galleons, sometimes a Brig. You mostly see lone seawolf sloopers or duos slooping. So where are the masses who will man a bigger ship?
If this is only for a few groups it's wasted ressources.

    About the premade alliance thing.
We do this from time to time if we have 6 or 8 players around who want to play. Mostly we dont and play on Brig or Galleon.
I dont think they will ever do this as it's against there idea of social experiences.
You can also go to another crew and "buy" their ship and take it over.
You can and should socially interact etc...
Its max a 4 player coop.
There are tons of other games what have only 4 player coop and not 5 or 8 or whatever number.
    It's for good reasons imho.
Think of people want to play Vermintide with 8 players!?
    Imho not gonna happen.
