How?

  • How the hell am I supposed to defeat Captain Briggsy? I was doing the tale, and I started fighting him alone, I knew it's gonna be hard that way but I kept trying. Then another crew showed up and we made an alliance. Now there were 4 people fighting Briggsy, but after 42 minutes we just gave up

  • @g4mer5teve I've not done that tale for a bit, but last time I used two powder kegs on her and finished her off with a blunderbuss and cutlass. The time before that I lead her to the beach and used my cannons on her. The time before that I just jumped around a lot and faced her one on one

  • @guybrush3pwood2 I've done áll those things at once and (s)he still didn't die

  • I've only ever completed the fight solo, so I'm not sure whether being in an alliance and fighting her with other people makes her harder.

  • @g4mer5teve done the tale 3 times solo and only used my cutlass and the fight lasted no longer than 3 minutes

3 minutes with just a Cutlass? I’m calling shenanigans.

  • @glannigan far from it. Both pirate lords besides the final Gold Hoarder if you're solo on a sloop (if you're soloing a brig it's harder as difficulty is scaled to which ship you're using) it doesn't take long at all. As long as you heal when injured and don't give her the opportunity to eat bananas it's a cake walk.

  • @g4mer5teve solo briggsy should be a breeze, when i last did it solo it cost me about 6~10 point blank blunderbuss shots and she dropped like a ton of bricks.

Also yes captain Briggsy is a she ;-), she is referred to as a female in all journals and by the tavern lady giving you the voyage ;-).

  • @g4mer5teve

If you're playing solo, then open with a sword lunge and do 3 hit sword combos until she starts to heal. Once she does, finish with back to back blunderbuss shots point blank to her chest. That should be enough to kill her. If not, go back to using 3 hit sword combos. Lunges are only better if you're currently out of reach for the slash combo. A few other tips:

    • If possible, try to keep as many ranged skeletons on the opposite side of her as possible. This will block them and you'll take less damage, thus keeping your healing time to a minimum.

    • Taking the time to kill the skeletons she spawns usually just ends up giving her time to heal. Only attack the skeletons when starting the fight, if Briggsy has just healed and is out of reach so can't burst her with your blunderbuss, or she's just teleported and hasn't reappeared yet. Otherwise, just try to block their line of sight to you as much as possible.

    • Back off as quickly as you can when she does her AoE attack (she'll put her arms straight up in the air), since both the damage and knockback are much less even if you're only a little bit away. And do not jump during it as that makes the knockback much larger. You want to hug Briggsy and put as much pressure on her at all times. Sword lunging back into her after the AoE move isn't a bad idea if you don't miss.

I used to solo that tale a lot and it rarely ever took me longer than 5 minutes to kill her by myself. Her regularly healing is what usually makes the fight last longer. Keeping constant pressure on her and then bursting her as much as you can right as she heals is absolutely paramount. If you are lightning fast, it is possible to kill her before she's able to do the heal animation at all. I've only done this once, and it usually involves her doing her skeleton spawning move instead of trying to heal, but it can happen.

Doing this with a larger crew is pretty much the same thing, but everyone has to do it at the same time. Needless to say, it's much harder that way simply due to the coordination needed.

Some people have mentioned that she counts as a golden skeleton, so splashing water on her makes her weaker. I have no idea if this is true or not, but I've never needed it to beat her.

  • @jza16 I'm pretty confident the difficulty is based on your crew size and not your ship size. I have done this on both a 2 man sloop and a 2 person brig and it was the same difficulty. Five minute fight, tops. Now with a 3 person brig, it was a much tougher fight.

  • All these people are giving advice, your game was probably bugged and more players didn't help because Briggsy couldn't re load from everyone being dead. That's what fixes a majority of skeleton glitches

  • @hailsux you could be right. I've never tested it myself. Just saw here in the forum when the Tales first came out that they were solo on a brig and the fight took over an hour, then when back solo in a sloop and took 5 minutes. Saw a few different people say similar things back then but again I havent tested it myself.. and it's possible they've reworked the balancing since then as well.

  • I've been hoping they make all the pirate Lord's harder. Seems too easy, like the sloop kraken. 2 min fights are boring.
    Don't let briggsy heal.

  • 1-2 players, Brigsy easy as hell.
3-4 you need to avoid beeing hit by the special move and keep on doing damage. Maybe 15 -20 minutes with cutlass only and some organiuation killing adds and doing damage.

  • @g4mer5teve did you sail on a brigantine?

  • @schwammlgott Sorry for the wait, yes I did because I started the tale with my friends but they had tó leave just before the fight started

  • @g4mer5teve thats most likely.ehy you had such a hard time. Difficulty was set for full crew (which is a serious fight) and you ended up trying it alone.

  • @g4mer5teve @William-Flint doesn't matter if you started with 3 people...when you start on a brig it's always hard...do it on a sloop and she's finished in no time

  • I always brought a keg with me, didn't instakill her, but it cleared out her starting buddies. Like mentioned before, keep her between you and the gun skellies.
