[Party Chat] I know, but hear me out.

    There are a lot of arguments around whether sea of thieves should have a party chat in game or not, to speak only to your crew, I'd like to propose it for a different reason.

    Most crews use discord or another voice application for private voice, this is fine, but counteracts some of the points people make for making the game social.

    I myself am legally mute, I cannot speak, I love the game, but it's super frustrating having to type in game to my crew, and being unable to make calls or anything because other crews can read my messages. Of course I can alt tab into discord, or another program but it's an extra step being forced upon everyone in the group. They need their phones out, or a second screen. It's simply unfair to them.

    Due to this, I myself have been pretty much forced to play solo for the most part, or just not interact or talk when other crews are within earshot, and it just feels terrible.

    People argue the reason we have no party chat is because the game is supposed to be social, but it's no stretch to be able to hit tab to switch between party and general chat, that is common practice.

    All I ask is people consider the benefits to the system and how it will actually help some players.

    Edit: For example, I can't warn of an incoming enemy ship without letting them know that my crew is aware of their presence. Where as people in voice chats are able to do so secretly and plan an ambush accordingly.

    I'm not exactly sure I completely understand what you're saying. But Xbox does offer the ability to text chat in Xbox party chat.

    I often play using Xbox party chat and have had players type their messages through that rather than the in game chat so that only people in the party can read it.

    @little-squash I use windows, more accurately a crew chat, something in game. If there is an alternative that shows up in game, that I'm not aware of that'd be amazing to know about and explore.

    I use both party and game chat, interchangeably, as the need arises. Playing with friends? Party chat. Want to communicate with another crew? Game chat. While you can't use both at the same time on the Xbox One, I do use Xbox Live's voice-to-text feature to spy on other nearby crews while still in party chat with my friends.

    @galactic-geek How does that work? Is it available through the windows 10 variant? It could actually solve my entire issue.

    @seras-bloodwell It's my understanding that if you're on PC, you can join an Xbox Live party via the Xbox app and easily hear both game and party chat at the same time.

    @galactic-geek and it has a built in TTS? Sorry, it's my first time actually using anything x-box related, I assumed the only features for this were built in by rare themselves.

    @seras-bloodwell I haven't personally used it, so I can't accurately or reliably answer that, but I think so (based upon my experience with other PC players)?

    @galactic-geek I'll have to dig more into this, I had no idea such a feature even existed, if it ends up working, i'll just purge this thread, otherwise i'll leave it up if there isn't a work around.

    @fast-bike94 No, not at all, that would be selfish and absolutely absurd. I was looking for a crew based TEXT in game that can be used to communicate with the crew, currently that does not exist.

    Similar to team or guild chats in other games.

    @fast-bike94 Possibly, this isn't something i've played, but the main issue is, for people like me the only option is to type. That in turn makes it impossible to communicate privately to the crew currently. Many people argue against a team or crew based chat due to the social aspect of the game, however it does remove the ability for the speaking impaired. Which gives others a bit of an edge.

    @seras-bloodwell I'm guessing I misunderstood then. That (guild chat-style text) doesn't exist in SoT. There's only quick-text and global text chat (distance-sensitive; I forgot the name of that particular chat-style) in-game.

    With all of the ways to counter the global chat, I wouldn't mind having such a feature through text - call it a whisper, if you will.

    @galactic-geek That is initially what I was looking for, a whisper to the crew is a good way of putting it, something only your crew members can read.

    I agree with this suggestion. It would be nice to have a crew only text option in-game for accessibility reasons. I hope they add it.
