@galactic-geek If it's an even fight I'll normally give number 2 a go. Normally only choose the 1st option when it's just me, on my own and the odds are against me.
People that board you, kill you, but then fix your boat, bail out the water but keep killing you.
@guybrush3pwood2 If you're good enough, 2 pirates shouldn't be a problem; get past them, board their galleon, and either avoid or fend off the other 2 - winning via seperation. 3 on your sloop is understandably hard for anyone, but bypass that, then you've only got 1 left to deal with, max.
@galactic-geek I normally manage to evade a Galleon if I'm solo on my sloop.
If it's another sloop, I'll normally either hit them with a cursed cannonball and make my escape or set my ship for a clear course, wait till they're following me, grab a powder keg from the crows nest, jump off the back and blow them up.
(the latter also works for galleons that really won't leave you alone)
Good trick with the headwind thing too. then you're ship isn't going to go too far while you're waiting to respawn. Although I have been sniped carrying a barrel before and that sucks :D@guybrush3pwood2 The only motive for these jerks is to make you angry and to get you to scuttle to inflate their egos or something.
@glannigan I'm always in game chat when I'm solo and it's hard to raise an alliance flag when you're spending 99% of the time on the Ferry.
I was also asking "What are you guys doing?" and was met by eerie, murderous silence. If that is the way people make friends these days... eeek.@galactic-geek .Yeah, also I'm not good at PvP (hand-to-hand) but I'm pretty good at PvP (boat-to-boat). I don't get boarded often but when I do I struggle.
Just a question, when using the blunderbuss in this situation, do you aim or "shoot from the hip"?@guybrush3pwood2 Personally, I nearly always shoot from the hip with the Blunder. The fraction of a second that you can't shoot while in the aiming animation can ruin your 1-shot kill or cause you to get 1-shot. I'd only aim if someone was blissfully unaware that they're about to get a complete facial makeover
@guybrush3pwood2 I had a similar experience a few months ago while solo slooping. Was heading for an outpost to turn in some rather meager treasure when a ship came up on me and asked for an alliance. Naively I accepted then the next thing I knew they were boarding, killed me, they tried fixing the boat and spawn killed me immediately. So I scuttled and removed the alliance flag as soon as I respawned - realizing they only offered as a way to track me. Those guys were total tools and were pretty much camping the whole section of the map looking for cheap kills and thrills - I avoided that portion of the map for most of my session as I now knew what they were up to. I made a mistake and did return later to the area where the same tools were operating, this time they rammed my ship while one jumped aboard with a powder keg.
In that instance many would say these player were pure griefers. It didn't upset me though, I just took more care in avoiding what was now an obvious threat - concentrating my adventuring in the Wilds and Ancient Isles to avoid them. I also found other friendly players and made sure I warned them of the threat over in the Shores of Plenty/Golden Sands Outpost. These players were definitely out to harass other players but at least they were predictable and kept themselves to one corner of the map. I just viewed them as a bloodthirsty crew out for their jollies, plenty of map left to avoid their juvenile behavior. At least they weren't toxic, probably PC players as I never heard them speak and were pretty quick on the texting for an alliance.

There is a good chance they are wanting you to join their alliance. Make sure you hit game chat on and your join alliance flag.
That’s the only reason I can think of cause we did the same thing to someone last night.
If so, I can guarantee it was for nefarious reasons. I just posted an experience I had a few months back above where they only offered an alliance to catch me off guard and to track me on the map. I got wise to their intentions very quickly and took appropriate measures to get away from them - scuttled while they were spawn killing and bailing, removed alliance when respawned and scuttled again for good measure so they had no idea where I was (as I could see them closing on my location after the first scuttle/respawn).
This has only happened to me once when i first started. One guy was whippin me bad and another was taking my supplies. I was a nooblet at that time so i kept tryin to fight back and kill the guy while they drained me dry.
Times are different now. I usually have over 300 of all supplies. And you can bet ur last gold coin i would rather scuttle than let someone have them.
Im pretty ruthless on the seas. But i feel like spawn killin to drain players supplies is just wrong. Im not judging you guys that do it as i know the benefits for it. Its just not my style. The incentive is that there are many people in this community that are most of the words that the spell-filter on this Forum blocks.
Think about the perfect game for a Bully. Guaranteed numerical advantage with superior fire power, weaker, outnumbered opponents who don't want to fight, and no levels or perks regardless of playing time. Voila!, you've got SoT. The ultimate (to date) online Bully computer game/social experiment.
So you are gonna get a lot of Trolls/Jerks/Bullies. Because that is the sandbox that Rare created.
All that done and dusted. There are also a lot of great people who play this game so don't think that these people are in the majority. But it does only take a few bad apples to ruins the barrel.....
Anytime I've been part of such behavior is for the supplies of the other ship ... if we had a easy time taking out your crew, we then leave two killing and repairing so that the players are at a major disadvantage because their boat is going down ... but then really is it...??? while all that goes on resources are being gathered and then we sail off maybe you have enough to repair maybe you dont .. .. ive also had this done to me .. i fight on till either ya get away or meet the sea bottom .. arrrr happy sailing ya sea dogs
OMG! True story!
My new-to-SoT friend and I just got attacked by a kraken in the middle of the storm while on our sloop, and while fending off the tentacles, we realized to our horror that a brigantine wanted to take advantage. So, for 10+ minutes, we were stuck in the muck, damaged and sinking, fighting off rain, tentacles, and boarders while evading incoming fire. Miraculously, we held on just long enough for an allied galleon (with 3 novice pirates) to come to our aid, with a cursed skeleton ship in tow which they expertly used to aggro onto the brigantine. They distracted the brigantine just long enough for us to repair our ship, defeat the kraken, and sail to a nearby outpost to turn in all of our loot, which the brigantine crew never even touched (they didn'teven find enough respite to get at our supplies). Yes, we died a lot, but we coordinated, perservered, and let loose the dogs of war...
My crewmate? Age 13. Our allies? All 3 sounded as if they were under the age of 10.
Arena's got nothing on the Adventure mode because of scenarios like this.
I've experience this once myself. Was an odd experience. Guy crashed his sloop into my sloop at an outpost. I went to fix my ship forgiving the incident as an accident and next thing I know the guy is kill cycling me since I'm unpracticed at PvP, being new fish.
I'm not really fazed by the incident as it was my choice to keep respawning in attempt to kill him. Alas, I had just fought a meg before so had swapped my sword out for a pistol and eye of reach. The ship of the dead (is damned a filtered word?) should have a weapons locker on board for these situations, lol!
At first I thought he was being ultra conservative since he had treasure on board and thought I may try to steal from him... So can understand that mentality. Then it became fun for him to foil my attempted vendettas. I think he realized I didn't have a sword and was a crabby shot; so wanted to exploit the oportunity.
I experienced another related event when I spawned into the game to find my ship missing. Total 'Dude, where's my Brig?' moment. Being new I thought I'd accidentally joined a public game instead of a private one (was expecting friends) but he said, "No, I have actually stolen your ship. Mine got sunk by a kraken but my friends and I managed to cache our loot on an island so am sailing to that Island now." He got off when he got to the island, and I returned the not killing me favour with a I won't steal your loot favour...
I guess I'm not a very good pirate: I'm too nice.
So, I kinda like that moments like these can happen, but I can sympathize if some find them annoying; since it's emergent and people don't have control of their engagement. Maybe if there were Pirate 'fleets' players can optionally join which up-front define their interaction with other players... Kinda like Dark soul's covenant system.
They're just bored little trolls. Their only intent is to ruin the fun of SOT for other players.
Rather than scuttle try jumping overboard and heading for their ship. You will generally have to get there indirectly however. If you can make it to land you can generally find a way to lose them for long enough to swim for their ship while they search for you on the island. I find that spawn killer trolls turn into screaming babies when you take their ship over or sink it with a bucket. I have supposedly been reported by crews of spawn killing trolls for turning the tables several times (according to their threats over the mic).
@guybrush3pwood2
My favorite thing to do to galleons chasing me is to place powder kegs in front of my sloop (but not out in the open). I run and turn for long enough to get them thinking I won't suddenly do anything else. When I think it's time I suddenly turn, aim for their bow, and shoot the kegs from as far back as possible just before impact. I promise you that 12 stacked kegs can instantly turn a galleon right over. I can sometimes return to the area after respawn and grab their loot too.@corvum-mortis
Being territorial like that usually means that I come back and repeatedly suicide bomb them until they rage quit.@guybrush3pwood2 said in People that board you, kill you, but then fix your boat, bail out the water but keep killing you.:

Just a question, when using the blunderbuss in this situation, do you aim or "shoot from the hip"?Shoot everything from the hip when fighting close quarters. The pistol works great toward this purpose too. Practice hitting a target without aiming by shooting at the bell on your ship. When you get good at it you'll hear all kinds of screams about imaginary aimbots you aren't using.
