Random skeleton ship spawns

  • Are the devs ever going to add back in the random skeleton ship battles?

  • @kin6-nothin6 God, I hope not. Annoying as 'Heck'.

  • I hope they do, but add in Sloops and Brigs to lessen the difficulty for those crews.

I have no problem with the Skelleons whether it be solo on a sloop or brig, and I miss the randoms :(

  • @kin6-nothin6 with the new ship damage it's annoying they need to tone down the special cannonballs if they are going to add them back

  • I don't want them to spawn right next to our ship and immediately be in attack mode, but I would definitely like to see them rise from the waves again in general - right now, they are just there aimlessly sailing... Cursed brigs and sloops would be nice too.

  • @galactic-geek skelly ship spawning right next to you is the best spawn you can ask for. For the first 10-15 seconds they won't fire and you have the best opportunity to land free hits below water line.

  • @kin6-nothin6 I hope so. I miss them.

Yeah, I know that - but nobody needs the extra aggravation, especially when having them appearing out of the blue and hostile while you're in the middle of doing g something else. We already have other crews, megs, and krakens for that!

  • I’d say they should have that they only emerge from the water in the fog. Make the fog appear more sudden on players ships. If you want to chance sailing from an island in the fog beware of the undead...

  • Now that you mention it I have noticed that they have been absent recently.

Personally I never liked them. Good riddance.

  • Hopefully never, forced spawns on players are a mistake.

  • @galactic-geek active skellies should come back not as random spawns but as a part of a more complex story that makes greater sense like a skelly invasion into the world of SOT for xy reasons.

And there should be specific missions, like trade/supply runs across the map, which would be guaranteed to draw skelly attention and spawn their ships, 1, 2 or even 3 skelly ships at once depending on how many ships (in alliance) run the mission together
    e.g.
you go alone or with another ship you get 1 skelly,
3 ships get 2 skelly spawns,
4 and more ships get 3 skellies .

Like a sort of mini fleet that intercepts you. It could happen once or twice per run depending on the mission's importance.

And there could be navy factions for each region which would give navy reputation that you'd gain through doing these missions because they would count as an active opposition to the skelly invasion.
And it could be in conjunction with forts which are places skellies have taken over and hold thus, the inhabitants of the affected region are in distress which warrants the supply runs. Many possible ways to conceptualize it.

I for one miss active skellies.

  • @bumbumbac I don't think the game can effectively run that many ships at once (an entire fleet + all of the players? Not happening anytime soon).

Also they already did the skelly invasion - it's how we got the cursed ships and CCBs in the 1st place (not to mention losing poor Wanda).

  • When were these removed? I don't remember the dev videos or patch notes mentioning their removal but it has been a long time since one's jumped me.

I hope they come back, it made the seas more alive and unpredictable.

  • Honestly while I liked the challenge and the loot was good, it wasn't difficult on a Galleon etc. I hope they don't add them back.

When you're solo on a sloop or you're low on stock there's just no escaping them. You also can't avoid them as they spawn on you.

    Currently you can:

    • Avoid skeleton ships (they roam you see them you can avoid them).
    • Run from the Kraken with minimal Effort (just a few planks maybe 3 cannonballs and determination).

When skeleton ships spawned on you, you couldn't run (they had magic propulsion) you couldn't hide (well sort of but they would circle islands and still take pot shots at you) and they took their sweet time to despawn. Back then if you didn't want to fight them you'd generally hide close to an island and wait for it to despawn (compelling gameplay guys).

  • Mike Chapman said on twitter they're coming back. They're doing some rebalancing.

I'd either not allow them to spawn on Sloops... or only allow Skeleton Sloops to spawn on Sloops. With the new ship damage, a Galleon can do a lot of damage to a sloop in no time.

  • @tedakin I've just tried to find @ChappersChapman saying that but no joy. Do you have a link for that?
