Dive Animation

  • So basically what i do for every shipwreck is sword dash in an angle it works for me. I always try to get inside the Ship with one dash. But sometimes you just want to dive down below. Lets give our Pirates the Opportunity to do a deep dive dash when running towards the edge and jump into the water. Its only purpose is to dive down not far like the sword dash. The same result works for example when you jump from a Crowsnest.

  • @shanickredbeard A swan dive animation would add a lot to the game.
It could be done as an environmental queue when stood at certain points of the ship as well; much like the intuitive design of the interaction points already found in the world.

  • Very much agree on this one.

  • @sshteeve I think I would rather it be a button you can press while falling and then the game would have to intelligently decide if you are about to fall into water deep enough. Like maybe on PC holding CTRL after you jump out into the water or something.

Just because of the number of times I accidentally interact with the lantern above the map table on the sloop when I want to interact with the map table. I feel like I would be doing this a lot on accident lol.

It would also lead to less screen clutter in my opinion. But that's just me.

  • I love this idea. I've always lamented the inability to do a spectacular swan dive off a cliff or crow's nest, in true Hollywood pirate form. I'd like this to be skill based, so it would take some practice to perfect. If you botch it, you go flailing off the cliff in a very undignified fashion. If you nail it, you execute a perfect Jack Sparrow swan dive to the amazement and admiration of your peers. Ooh, ahhh!

  • This would be great.
Especially if it added a little extra speed for deeper dives.

I agree that it should be mapped to keybinding rather than something the game decides or Assassin's Creed style jump locations.

I wouldn't want to expect to jump off the mast to get onto an island and the game decide that I wanted to do a swan dive instead.
I hate when the game makes decisions for me.

in a very old trailer for the game there's a pirate diving off the ship so why not

    Yeah, that could end badly...

  • Despite Jack Sparrow's graceful performance, I don't think most pirates were as graceful as he - in fact, I'm fairly certain that a great deal of actual pirates didn't even know how to swim, so at least be grateful that yours can at all. Pirates were not known to be graceful, nor should they be depicted as such, IMO.

Whether your pirate is graceful or not is entirely up to you. If the dive animation mechanic were skill based, one could choose to go flailing off the crow's nest like bowl of wet noodles, or execute a swan dive that would make even Jack Sparrow blush with envy. It's all about choices. :)

Except you already have that choice. If I want to be graceful, I can sword-lunge off of the top of Galleon's Grave and land cleanly in the water. If I want go flailing like a bowl of wet noodles, I'd simply do the same thing, but I would also scream into the headset as I did so. Oh, and I wouldn't miss the ground in that case either. That's your skill variation right there.

  • @shanickredbeard

In first person or 3rd person perspective?

    RODL!!
Oh I can even hear the sound effect of Lara hitting the ground and her little gasp of death in the back of my brain.

  • @lil-fokker Same here - she always did have rather disturbing death noises!
