This is so stupid that everyone has the same design for the gold hoarder curse. I didn't spend a week of grinding just to look like everyone else! There needs to be variety. Make presets or different choices for what we look like. I want to be unique and this was a horrid decision.
Why is the Gold Hoarder Curse the Same for Everyone?!
Because it is objectively unfair when some of us get less curse than others for the same time and effort.
There's another active thread about this now. Some of us got minimal gold on our characters and were just forced to be stuck with that random allocation while others got much better curses. How is that NOT unfair?
Listen, I know uniqueness is important. I definitely get that. But looking unique doesn't matter if it looks terrible.
OPTIONS should be available. They should just load all of the presets into players' vanity chests who have earned the curse.
But you really can't tell me that it was fair that I was stuck with this while others got much more preferable designs
I checked it ingame in this moment and i am su much disappointed you cannot imagine.
the standard curse blocks the whole tatoo set, the hands both golen look unnaturally and just like plastic.
I immediatley unequipped.
If you are happy now, know that this comes at my and all others who were happy with their curses cost.
My originall curse didnt come at your costs. that was just bad luck for you and Rare could have elaborated around that anf provide other simple solutions like an endless reroll.
Now they messed it up entirely.
this is cowpoo!!!@chronodusk Then why dont they add more gold to the ones that doesnt have much instead of making them all the same
@bugaboo-bill
Endless reroll... Make options....
Yes there are things they should do to expand on the curse at this point.
Pre-update, some were happy and others were not. Post-update some are happy and others are not.
The logical course of action here is to give options for players at this point. Believe me, I do hate to see that so many people are disappointed with what should be the best Tall Tales reward.
@bugaboo-bill I checked it out too and it is almost the same curse I had originally, only that now it is a bit more patchy. I prefer this one to the one I had, but I still want to be unique and it makes me so mad that I will just look like everyone else. There needs to be options to choose which design you have.
@chronodusk i really like the suggestion i saw someone else make.
It's the Gold Hoarder curse, right? So it'd be logical that the more gold a player hoards makes the curse stronger, covering them in more gold.
Say a player has 100k gold. Then maybe theyve got a couple gold patches. At a million theyve gof whole gold body parts. And maybe at 10 million theyve turned completely gold.
Then everyone could be as gold as they wanna be and itd double as a sort of brag too. Seeing an all gold player and youd know this is someone whos done a whole lot of looting.
@nagthenaggy itd still fit with the curse though from a lore standpoint.
Heres this pirate who owns everything a man can have and yet he keeps hoarding more gold.

what they have done is not options - they rewarded me and take it away and replaced it with cowpoo.
the appropriate word is censored.I'm raging and i will KOS everybody who wears it, i will cut them in pieces FOREVER!
@nagthenaggy I'm right with you I hate it and lost desire to play now. I look like every other gold Kano
That argument is not sound. It quickly became common knowledge that the curse was not working as intended. Some people (likely a vast majority of players who unlocked the curse) ended up with one that was practically invisible -- at the very least, these instances did not reflect Rare's vision for the way they would appear in game. You did not "work hard" to obtain the specific curse that you ended up with. You had no idea how it was going to look on your character, so there is no way that the promise of its appearance was the reason you did the Tall Tales five times each.
I would agree with you that this was poorly handled at multiple junctures (introducing it as randomized in the first place, taking away player agency by forcing one specific look), and further that the actions Rare took here are basically par for the course in terms of "fixing" things. They probably should have created a set of curses that collectively represented the "approved variations" and then granted players access to those as if they were tattoo schemes instead of forcing the same one onto everybody.
But when you make posts like yours, you are not contributing to the discussion in a way that is conducive of change or growth.
@baby-wiggs I turned it off and am playing red dead redemption right now lol I'm borderline on uninstalling. This isn't the first time I've been bent over by them. The reapers missions I had four done start the fifth one and I'm back at zero. So I wasn't able to get the reaper cosmetics as well. They gave me 5 doubloons tho lol
@gattagosanic You’re incorrect if I would of seen this new tacky generic curse from the start. I would not of even left the arena for a second to go on even one chapter of a tall tail. I liked the original unique curses even the ones with little gold better than this over done gawdy golden statue curse. I also campaigned from the beginning, at the first mention of rolling out new “intended” curse about better ways to appease the complainers while also not taking away from others who were happy with their original curse. Making everyone the same was a bad direction to move as far as I’m concerned.
I’m with everyone else got all excited ready to play. Updating my game excitedly reading the patch notes than read about the curse change with an immediate frown. Log into game see this grotesquely done new curse that looks like a little kid designed it & immediately didn’t even wanna play now I’m on the forums all the way disgusted.
@nagthenaggy said in Why is the Gold Hoarder Curse the Same for Everyone?!:
@steveboddy that's not a good idea because if they have bought everything in the game then they would just be stuck at a full gold person, which would just be terrible. I know for a fact that I would hate being a buttered body builder.
If it really bothers you that much... Maybe stop hoarding gold, or... Here's a better idea... Why not ask for gambling systems, and betting systems ingame, that allows you to actively control your income, AND gives more social dynamic to this game via card games etc.
You're being quite over dramatic. It looks like the general outcry is from people who got the curse they wanted and would rather not consider the fact that a lot of other people actually got screwed by the previous system.
Rare had an intended look and they implemented it. I am happy with the new curse because it looks a lot better than the one I got shafted with initially.
I sympathize with the fact that you and many others may have gotten one you would have loved to keep. As such, I think players should be given options as to what curse pattern they wear. (I'm considering other players' feelings here. See how that works?) Maybe you should be a bit more sympathetic to the fact that others got utterly screwed by RNG to begin with.
To say the curse is "ruined" or that the change has ruined the game or any part of it is quite melodramatic. You'd be far more productive to continue suggesting in a polite, level-headed manner that they implement options for players instead of coming to the forums and threatening to rage-quit over a change they made to a single cosmetic.

I agree with that, on many levels... Im one of the few that is happy with my new gold curse appearance, but i cannot accept it, because everyone else has the exact same look... This was a bad way to handle the issue.
Now i don't agree with freedom of choice by treating the gold curse as a tattoo that you can swap whenever... But i will say giving players some way to refresh it, or choose 1 appearance upon unlocking it, is a whole lot better than what they did here...
Some people wanted minimal gold, others wanted as much gold as possible... I just wanted a golden right hand, and a golden foot.
I mean we do get to choose our pirate appearance to some degree, why not implement a system where you can choose curse appearances in a similar way?
Meh, i even made a post regarding feedback, with a dandy suggestion for the gold curse too, along with several other people, guess it didn't matter. : /
Feels like Rare didn't read any of them...
@baby-wiggs said in Why is the Gold Hoarder Curse the Same for Everyone?!:
@chronodusk if you want to continue riding the sinking ship i don't have a right to tell you you shouldn't. But as of this point its gone too far for me and I can have that opinion.
So are we to assume you will quit playing this game, then?
@chronodusk I’m glad you are happy with the generic new curse. I for one advocated better ways to handle this situation that didn’t upset many at the first mention of a one curse fits all from sonic bob or whatever his name was. You & a very small handful of others didn’t like their particular curse even though it was fairly unique & distinct to you because of this ALL of us now have to share one standard issue curse. If you didn’t like yours they should of offered a re roll or assigned the new curse to players like yourself & left the rest of us who were happy or at least satisfied complacent with ours keep our individuality.
I mean I definitely sympathize with that. I does look a bit odd that something like this appears the same on every pirate. I am really happy that Rare rectified the bad RNG curses. It especially works out for me because I got a terrible one.
But I know I'm not the only person who matters and some people had one they were happy with, so I do feel they should find a way to allow options to use the NPC presets. For example "Shores of Gold Curse 1" could be the intended design, then they could add "Shores of Gold Curse 2" and 3,4 ,5 etc.... The same way it's set up for the Sailor tattoo sets. I personally don't see a problem with that.
At least in this way, they get their intended vision for the cosmetic in game, make the cosmetic better for those who got screwed, and allow everyone to have an option for what it looks like on their character.
It'd be a win for everyone and I don't really see a negative in that method.
@chronodusk This would of been the absolute best method of ensuring everyone’s overall happiness. This was actually one of my initial suggestions on another thread. This new rendition I really don’t like. It covers most of my tattoos, makes my eyeball look funny & is just too much overall gold for my liking.
@chronodusk I like that idea but I don't know if its possible I truly believe the gold curse is dependent on char model type/build.
this new patch introduced a new bug in arena where after a match everyone is bald naked with no curse no tats and ALL THE SAME CHAR MODEL is weird to see,
which in turns since the patch made the change to the curse I truly believe they had to add a hidden char model on us so that way we would all have the same curse.
I am no game developer but it makes since.
so that being said if somewhere deep in the code the curse is tied to our char model it would not be the easiest thing to give people an option.
I’m just really dis appointed with the new curse. I quit playing sea of thieves around the cursed sails update. Just got back into it with anniversary update. Was super pleased with my unique gold hoarder curse that was stolen from me. Now, I’m so upset I’m going to play apex legends. Put this game back in the closet. Such a waste that a game I looked forward to for almost two years prior to release. Is so stale. A year later pirate legends look the same way they did back then nothing new. Then you do add something new & unique only to go & ruin it for everyone except the select few who prefer the new look.

I don't understand what is disappointing about the curse you got. I think it looks cool. I mean, I can understand if YOU didn't love it, for whatever reasons you may have, but I can't say that it is objectively bad (at all!!).
I'm not raging or defensive about this subject, either. I do believe they should handle this differently and should not have all of them be the same. Now that they've made this quick change, I hope they're working on a better change to come.
I really hope they can make it a player choice and/or give the ability to re-roll it.
I'm hoping there might be like 10-20 presets that were available, and the reward just gives every play all of them, then allows us to equip the one we choose (or choose to equip it with the randomize option).I'm curious to see all of the curses that people said were unfair, because yours looks fine to me. (not everyone wants to be covered with gold, so it's all subjective)
My buddies dont even care to complete the tall tales to get it anymore. Once one of us told the rest that the Gold was all the same now, he could care less about getting his own. And now none of them care, so Ill probably never finish it to get it unles sI do it alone. The unique gold was a much better idea, I hate when cry babies ruin everything.
@lewisjf95 said in Why is the Gold Hoarder Curse the Same for Everyone?!:
It is a cosmetic, and all cosmetics are the same so when earned you can see they have achieved that.
Also.. if one person got an insanely attractive gold curse appearance but another has been given a vile looking one... that would be totally unfair! Cosmetics have to match in my opinion.
The problem is you shouldn't give me a unique curse and then take it away.
That is as if you show me a fancy Moto and gift it to me and after 2 weeks you come and say, wrong gift mate, others weren't satisfied with it, please take this pink tricycle. You never should take away what was once given.
The solution is a mess and makes me upset until today.
They had to find a solution for the unhappy.
And these were just a few.
Majority of players was very pleased with their curse. Not only pleased they were hyped it is "unique".
Read the Forums, there are 2 people in the thread were i asked who is happy now.
2! and maybe 20 who are completely disappointed.
This was just a bad move by Rare.
Very bad move.
People wearing this curse are instakilled by me.
Because of the curse and i will tell them why.
