Just wanted to get peoples thoughts on this...
Currently you are able to disconnect a grapple by slicing right next to the grapple on the boat that it is launched from.
After some testing...slicing the actual grapple point (on the ship that has been grappled) from inside or outside the boat DOES NOT disengage the grapple and in my opinion it should.
I am raising this discussion because I feel like anyone in a solo-sloop/duo sloop who comes under pressure no longer can attempt any kind of fancy evasion moves as they are being chased down a faster vessel. Yes solo slooping is perilous as the game states upon setting sail but hear me out...
Previously if you were on a sloop and a larger crew uses proper sailing to chase you down and they get within what is now harpoon range, you at least had the chance of pulling an agility based move/or desperation anchor turn hoping to raise anchor in time and escaping slightly to force them to sail proper to re-gain the distance they just lost from the move you chose to make.
Now with grapple mechanics in play a solo-slooper or duo sloop once grappled by a brig or galleon is done in most scenarios. Yes you could drop a keg between the boats as they dance in circles around one another but I just feel like having the ability to disengage the enemy grapple with the cutlass from either inside your boat or jumping overboard with a well timed swing to disengage would add more depth to this new mechanic.
This post does not come from me not enjoying the new mechanic at all, I love it. It just doesn't have a true counter. There are ways to break it yes, but in certain situations there are actually zero ways to break the link. Basically now a larger crew only needs to get within grapple range to seal a smaller/slower vessels fate with them having zero ability to do anything about it. Fun yes, but I can't imagine being on the receiving end of this and literally having zero options as far as survival goes.
Thoughts everyone?
