Where are the Sailors, pirates and ppl alike?

  • Hello Sailors!

I just got my copy of Sea of Thieves and spend around 4-6 hours in Game already. Somehow i am alone. Did not see a single foreign ship driven by an other player. Did not see any players at outposts so far. I am living in Europe - Germany and I am afraid now that European and EAST coast servers are seperated. Is there a way to choose the server to connect to or see how many players are online? In most games I play east coast. I have a ping reaching from 60 to 110 there. Thats a okay latency in my opinion. In germany I have around 16 latency. Would appreciate further information on this topic by other players or developers. The start was kind of boring so far, except the game content it self is nice. But meeting other pirates / sailors and have a Grog and some talk would be nice. Since i am an RPG player from heart.

best regards and all times pleasant winds,

    MKev

  • @mkev187 you're not alone on the servers, or else you would get server migrated
Most people are avoiding each other because mostly you just find pirates that kill you, sink your ship or hunt you down...

Yes maybe. But i did not see a single sail from an other player on the horizon except NPC ships. When i go on twitch and click the next best player i can see multiple encounters in a timespan of 5 minutes. Other sails on horizon, ships passing by. Feels to me like EU servers are almost empty and US East coast servers are dozens of people.

    regards

  • @mkev187 i'm from austria and I wish I could only use european server, the lag is even worse on american servers...

Advanced people, know where to park the ship so you doesn't see it that easy...when I'm playing solo I often never see a ship, but I know there are enough crews on the servers because I see them on the ferry...just need to know where you can hide your ship...

  • @mkev187 welcome to the Seas. Join a discord server so you can join a crew. Search the forum and you will find many. They'll teach you a few things.

On a sloop, especially solo, it is difficult to see everything on the seas. It is the slowest of the ships and you really need to utilize the lookout.

By now, many players are getting further into the tall tales and fishing. This means some may be going somewhere that is difficult to be seen. Others are just posting their ships in locations to fish in peace.

Give it a few weeks. it will get more active on adventure mode.

  • Meeting other players is often not a nice roleplay thing in this game xD they often shoot first and if they dont they check your cargo and voyage to backstab you at the right moment.. allies are not save since pirates infiltrate to track progress... but yes sometimes we are lucky to find friendly people thats awesome and fun :") servers are different some are all pvp while others are mixed or friendly and some have lots of free loot while others look completely farmed already.. switching to a new game/server can really help sometimes

  • Hey, german here.

It's at least some sort of rng where you are and where the others are, but they are there somewhere for sure or you got server merged.

As for ping it's alltime 120 iirc to avoid issues with this, but i dont check my ping.
Hit registration is also something what is a little bit off.

There are less roleplayers out, but i'm also one if the players who is not alltime hostile and also ready to smalltalk, dance and play music together :-)
But the Seas have become more hostile and to meet dread Pirates but polite and playful players is rare.

Keep sailing and find a crew, there is an inofficial SoT Germany Discord.
I mostly play on another Discord with a crew of about 8-10 more or less active Pirates, but you can find crews there.
Much better experience than to solo all time or to sail with randoms.
Soloing can be fun, but it's not for me alltime. Random crew is.... puke

    Happy sailing.
