After spending the last 4 hours fishing 80-90 fish and cooking them I have only gained two levels from level 11 to 13. Find it a bit of a grind to gain levels in the Hunter's Call, even though it is a lot of fun and a nice change. I feel as if all the fishing experience could be doubled for 90% of the fish and the kraken / megladon meat should sell for triple the value as it currently is not worth selling for it's current price value. What do you guys think of the current Hunter's Call experience rate? Do you feel like it could use a considerable increase?
Increased Fishing Experience
@r-u-g-redz I'm not sure fishing was designed to be a solo act. it's supposed to be something to do while on other voyages. I'd suggest planning on other things and working on it in between.
@captain-coel Aye. I agree. But, at the same time that even further stresses my point that it would take an immense amount of time to level up especially if it's a casual / passive activity. And don't get me wrong, it's a lot of fun, just wanted to hear from other players.
@r-u-g-redz I honestly think all reputation factions should be harder to level up. I feel like eveyone wants things easier so they can achieve max in all reps in less than a few hours.... it is sad...
@capt-niteshade Aye, again I agree with it being a passive activity you do on the side, but that doesn't mean it couldn't award a tad bit more experience and yield faster progression. I think the value of items are fine, aside from the megladon and kraken given the effort and rarity. I should mention I am a Pirate Legend Athena 10, so I have been eager to level up and get the new cosmetics :) Keep in mind I have achieved most of my levels prior to doubloons, so I am fairly accustomed to the work involved in leveling up in the other trading companies. Interesting to see other people's thoughts though.
@lysergicaa I feel like they have found a good balance to be honest. I am a Pirate Legend Athena 10, as I mentioned above. I think you are blowing it out of proportion when you say reaching max reps in less than a few hours. I spent a solid 7-8 months getting to Pirate Legend Athena 10. Getting back to fishing experience, I feel as though the experience needs to be doubled in order to feel like your hard work is actually going towards your end goal. When progression early on feels like it's dragging on, it's not the best feeling knowing that it's going to be a nightmare at the higher levels. I'd assume to level up from 40-41 by fishing / cooking you'd need well over 3,000 fish. Or simple thing that could be implemented would be halving the cooking times that increase the value of catches. Again I am just curious as to what people think of it, not trying to start any arguments :)
@xavier-wisde Yes thats correct! However understand that you need bait and certain conditions for you to be able to catch these fish. And when you calculate the time spent gathering the resources / finding the conditions you end up losing that value that you were gaining by it's rarity. Not to mention you probably won't ever have more than 40 bait without spending at least 30 mins or more looking for bait, in which case you could catch a lot of fish in that time period. I've found Pondies to be the most effective means of leveling up per hour, but it's still requires a lot of effort. I've tried several locations and have found some nice spots :) I just feel like fishing is already a bit grindy and I haven't even reached 20 yet. This is coming from a Pirate Legend Athena 10 that spent months putting in the hard work to get the levels up and someone that has played in pre-alpha before it released in March 2018.
The Hunters Call exp seems fine to me. With this faction you can literally sit at a Seapost and fish without any risk of loss so long as you sell your 5 fish before continuing. You can certainly earn a Mastery towards becoming a legend by never leaving a Seapost but it should not be an easy adventure. With all other Factions some difficulty must ensue, with Hunters it’s the agony that your treasure is overly abundant and so your coin and reputation lacks unless you find the rare gems that are hidden throughout the seas. Also, cooking before selling helps.
@elwe-seregon Seems everyone is fine with it or at least those that have responded. Was just curious to what everyone thought :) Yeah I suppose you could fish endless splashtails at the seapost. Though the Pondies yield the better experience per hour if you fish at Skeleton Forts.
I do think rep and gold needs increasing for certain rare fish and def for the kraken and megalodon meat.. After a slightly frustrating session last night where I accidentally ate a piece of kraken meat while trying to switch it out for a different fish, I do believe that we now need a food selection wheel.. I know you can put certain foods on your quick select d pad, but what if I want to use the d pad for quick selecting my main items? I should be able to get to my cooked pork steak quickly and easily when I have 5 different foods on my person
I'm just at Level 11 and we did some fisching while doing Tales until.
My aproach is like allways - it happens by the way, i anyway never grind or work off anything.
Lower it and next week someone moans about no aims and goals anymore and he want Fishing Athena Level 100.
What bother me more is a lack of cosmetics for the Hunters and not only fishing rod skins.
@capt-niteshade I think they will get around to updating that food wheel system at some point. Like everything else, they are just getting the foundation set up to build upon :) One thing I could think of would be having the radial menu pop up similar to accessing other equipment or bait, and instead have it be food. Maybe they could bind it to be 'rb' and 'x' on the xbox controller. Baiting your rod currently involves 'rb' and 'y'. I am sure they already have some ideas going around and will get it to the insiders as soon as it's ready to be tested.
@bugaboo-bill Definitely wouldn't want to make it easy, I agree, but it could be a bit easier than it currently is. I think the cosmetic side for hunters call is lacking. Would be nice to see some kind of hunters call outfits available in the clothing shops. Maybe they could have fishing lure's on the chest or some tattered fish netting around it.
@R-u-G-ReDz the more the fish are worth, the more pvp ships you should expect. Be careful what you ask for. As you increase the value of fish will also increase their demand. Incentives are everything.
With everyone on tall tales and fishing, I suspect many are complaining about peaceful seas as there is little to steal from others.
I ground through the original 3 Guilds (before there was even the ability to buy levels) so I have no sympathy for the way achieving PL has been made easier and easier as the game has grown.
I'm not sure how many hours you need to put into the Hunters Call faction to achieve level 50. But it should be equal to the amount of time it takes to smash skulls, dig up chests and chase chickens.
@guepard4 As I've mentioned above multiple times already, I am aware it's a passive activity, but for those of us that do want to focus on progressing in Hunter's Call they should be able to feel some kind of reward for the hard work they are doing. I guess a good example I could use would be with the Shrouded Spoils update that made skeleton forts and countless other activities / battles worth the time and effort. I feel as though when I am at such a low level, like level 13, I should gain a level for fishing for a few hours of non-stop fishing. I love fishing, but an increase in exp per fish goes a long way when you get to the higher levels (something I don't think you're thinking about atm). Probably close to 5,000 or more cooked fish needed per level in the 40s, which is a lot of fish especially when you consider the time it takes to catch, then cook then deliver, and that's assuming all goes smoothly.
@viperishemu2992 Agreed! Same here. Took me a lot of time to hit PL 10. Something about the exp rate for Hunter's Call feels off to me, hence the reason why I made the post. The game certainly is a lot easier than it was at launch (not necessarily a bad thing!), which for some of us older pirate legends hurts a bit knowing how many hours we put in prior to doubloons, but it made the game more enjoyable for several players seeking specific trading company cosmetics. In this case there isn't anything beyond level 15 for Hunter's Call cosmetic wise that I am aware of, so I am more or less doing it for possible future content that could be locked behind a specific rep level.
@d-jaguar I don't have an issue with the value of fish. You are absolutely right. The values are perfectly fine to me (aside from the megladon / kraken meat, which simply are not worth the trouble). The experience gained from selling the fish would be the only thing I'd like to see increased a bit.
I would love them to increase the diversity of fishes you can get (there's enough in the game but most of the time you only get the vanilla ones).
Also why not adding legendary fishes ? like for the megolodons
Finally please increase the Price for the Kraken, It's rather long to get and barely worth.@sok-le-frivole I think they have a nice diversity of fish, but I think bait could be a little more abundant at least at the outposts. I find maybe 6-8 bait at an outpost, and it doesn't guarantee that I hook that specific fish. Sometimes go through more than 3-4 pieces of bait before getting the fish I am going after and then I am all out of bait. I don't think they need a legendary fish, that's what the trophy fish are for. I kinda wish we could fish for sharks using our common splashtails.
@r-u-g-redz Try to catch a fish on a moving ship and then check out how much distance have you traveled while doing so. Fishing is too dangerous right now, both from pve and pvp perspective.
@r-u-g-redz I agree with this to be honest, I don't understand why it can't be a solo act thing if it also allows one to become a pirate legend. I'm level 30-40 with the other factions yet levelling those up is easier than my fishing order. The grinds for each one should be similar for the amount of time put in - as any 3 allow you to become pirate legend. If a player chooses to grind fishing as they prefer a more laid back activity, it shouldn't be any more difficult to obtain 50 than it is for the other factions.
@angrycoconut16 Exactly how I feel. I don't think it should be easy, but it's a bit too grindy atm. Something doesn't feel quiet right. I think if it were doubled it would be fairly balanced. Not the value, just the experience gained.
@r-u-g-redz the fishing is not rewarding at all.. and its boring..
Agree that the fishin exp gained should be increased... as the arena for afk being and just finishing it give a lot more .. open crew being
@keslv I enjoy it. I could see where it could get boring if you don't like fishing. What aspect bores you? If anything I feel as if they have made fishing a lot more fun than I expected. Each fish gives a nice fight / struggle as you reel it in. Atm I don't think it's rewarding because it's currently lacking the cosmetics (I am sure there will be more in the future). How would you change the fishing in Sea of Thieves? What mechanic(s) would you change? Just curious because I really enjoy it aside from the grinding to level it up.
After spending some more time thinking about the experience rate with the Hunter's Call I thought of something that could potentially aid the experience issue. What if certain fish were locked behind a Hunter's call level requirement? Need level 42 for Stormfish, level 48 for Trophy Stormfish. It might be a little bit too late now, as they have already been introduced to the world. Maybe this could be implemented in a future update along with some more sea life / animals? Using traps to catch small animals that require higher Hunter's Call in order to successfully trap the animals. What are your thoughts on this guys? I think this would be awesome! And would be a great reason for people to level up their Hunter's Call rep to get better fishes / animals and in return better profit or experience.
