I know you guys tried this in the past and it went poorly, but please re-consider private servers. Im a solo player on XB. Im a noob. The get guds comments are gunna flow. I want to get gud but its not fun trying to battle pc players that have hundreds of hours in the game when im just trying to play the voyages and story lines. I get absolutely obliterated. I can handle the pirate ships, i can handle the krakens, i can handle the megs. You wont see me upset about the PVE aspects. Im just tired of wasting my time with this game when the inevitible PC squad is gunna roll up on me and destroy me with their far better mechanics and loading times. This game has potential but seems to be more so for the PVP community as opposed to a wide variety of players.
Private Servers

@blackelite-id16 I read an article about them trying it once but they had to take it down after a few hours cuz it was causing server issues. Im new so obviously could be wrong lol
Im just going to state that makes no sense. Private servers would not cause server issues with main servers. Now im not really for private servers, im just stating the obvious
@saws-n-sins Im just saying private servers would be a good place for noobs to start and get better at the game without losing interest in the game due to getting destroyed by veteran players. That is the purpose of this post. Not the article i read that may have false information in it.
I understand a lot of people think the PVP aspect is the nature of the game and i get that. But people should have the option for PVPVE or PVE in my opinion.
@xdinklebotx ok, you still make no sense speaking nonsense. I literally replied to the post that said private servers would cause issues on normal servers and I said that wouldn't happen. You're preaching a bunch of stuff I never even mentioned or even talked about. Idk where you coming from be reread the thread.
Edit: that was your post, so Im even more confused why you would argue the fact.... lol ok
@saws-n-sins i think u need to read what thread you are in lol The thread is literally named “private servers” and the main post describes getting private servers and the reasons why. The fact that u only saw one sentence out of a comment and completely changed the topic is not why im here. Waste of time. Have a good one.

Just give some random crews a shot. It's what I did, and sure, you're gonna come across a lot of mic-less trash. However you WILL find the "diamonds in the rough" crew mates that may become some of your new friends. Ignore the pc people, xbox players can be plenty aggressive as well, just get a crew together and go sail, ditch the "solo sloop only" idea and branch out.
Also if there were private servers it would kill the game, and I mean massacre it. It's a piracy game, and those who wish to be a pirate need to have people to go up against and be given the opportunity to steal treasure.
Yeah a solo sloop may get super wrecked when against 4 other players, but that's the risk of going it alone. It's hard mode, it's dangerous, and it won't change.
Having more options on how to play a game could never kill a game. If people enjoy the current state of the game then they can keep playing the way they want. PVPVE lobby players wouldn't even notice a difference besides maybe more skilled players to battle which should be more fun for them due to the fact that they actually enjoy the PVP aspect. Once the PVE players get to a high enough confidence in their ability to battle (since they now have more experience).. then they can move to the PVEVP lobbies if they desire. This is just my opinion. Im sure a lot of people step into the game and lose interest just like i am starting to because they are having trouble fighting back against the more experienced players and larger groups. I will def try to LFG more though. I have a few times and I def did enjoy it but sometimes I just wanna sail the seas solo and enjoy the PVE gameplay.

I think if they allowed some PVE only servers this would resolve this issue and I feel that a lot more new players would stay playing the game instead of giving up on it because of being bullied by those few players who think the point of the game is strictly chase other players across the seas for no reason other than just to kill them.
@needsmokes I said a similar thing last night while fishing for hours.
I would genuinely play it none stop.
Dont get me wrong I love the rush of seeing an enemy ship but at the same time Rare has proven they can add NPC ships and they are probably more dangerous than players. A PVE version of the game where you can invite friends to either join your ship or have their own would be amazing. Here is the quote from Joe to the question asked in the Shacknews interview, which is the most recent comment we have on the subject of private servers, I hope this helps, Rare are most definitely aware of the discussions around this topic. -
Shacknews: I’ve got more than three friends who want to play, and we like to play together, have you thought about making it easier for groups to join together?
Joe: We have. We need to figure out – we know that for multiple reasons players will want to come together in the world. Whether that’s to have a competition together or to make up your own game modes and mess around or record your own machinima or whatever, there are reasons people would like access to a private world a private server or something. Definitely looking at that, definitely looking at how we can bring that in. But the number one thing we have to consider with that is like, PVE farming, gold stuff, and all that, that doesn’t quite sit right with us I don’t think.
Shacknews: So what do you think of those PVE servers?
Joe: Oh, here we go. [laughs] I don’t think we’d ever want to provide an almost kind of authorized specific way for that to happen but that’s me talking, that’s just my perspective. But we’re not going to crack down on people who are basically just playing the game in the way they want to play and finding the ways they want to do. You know, it’s not power progression. We’ve always said, “Play the game, be the pirate you want, play the game in the way you want to play,” and it feels a bit weird if we were to go, “Oh, not that way!” [laughs] In the future, allowing more friends to come together and play in the world in the kind of way that they want, we want to figure out a way to do that but we’ve got some thinking to do.
Shacknews: Whilst still kind of allowing those encounters with other players.
Joe: Yeah, there are lots of questions to answer there, but we understand the ask, basically.
This is the most up to date comment we have on the issue - Rare are aware but it will take a lot of thinking about.
Sea of Thieves interview: Pets, private servers, and sequels
@katttruewalker
See I don't see how Gold farming would be a problem, it's not like the gold has a real.money value and buys anything other than cosmetics. If Gold bought advantages fair enough.I think the point is, Sea of Thieves is a shared world adventure game, the hazards and dangers provided by other players as well as ai enemies is a core design feature and helps to make the game what Rare intend it to be.
Removing the threat of other players, thus allowing players to harvest treasure unthreatened, removes the danger and risk of losing everything and changes the very nature of the world we play in.
Treasure chests are physical items for a reason, they can be dropped overboard, robbed from us, lost to the sea, all before we'd managed to get them safely back to an Outpost to turn in. It's all part of the risks we take sailing the seas and other players are vital to that feeling of risk and reward.
@katttruewalker dont know about you but I tend to get sank by over zealous skeleton crews and giant sea creatures a lot more recently. Last few times before the update I'd be set upon before even leaving my spawn outpost.
First time in fact I was hit by a Meglodon and Skelli ship after just spawning, sank respawned and then was hit by the kraken right away, barely caught my breath.
There are certainly threats and risk without other players. The only thing other players bring really is an unpredictability. You never know how another crew will react. Which while yes is a key feature and sometimes real fun but with the addition of actual story driven content that model needs to change slightly. At the moment its heavily biased to PVP players and that balance everyone wants to achieve is tipped.
I'm sorry to hear that, it hasn't been my experience at all, either with ai threats or other players.
@xdinklebotx afaik they never tried pve/private servers
However they are working on a optional cross play function, meaning cboc players with controller can opt out of playing with pc players with kb&m
Hopefully they will never do private servers because thievery is a big part of the shared world adventure, i mean its in the games description on the store basicly.
And if they do private/pve servers they should nullify all prograssion that can be made (cosmetics, gold, doubloons etc)
@rivyer написал в Private Servers:
@katttruewalker must be the luck of the draw.
Nope it must be skill or friends
Not luck@callmebackdraft see I keep seeing this "it's a world about thievery." Litrally every encounter with attacking crews has had them attack and sink us when we clearly have nothing to steal. Being attacked by the same ship that clearly know which ship we are repeatedly with no thievery involved.
If it was to steal from us fair enough it's called sea of Thieves. It is not however called Sea of Murderers. You might be lucky and not have encountered these clearly bored and clearly hilarious griefers but I have. If I get killed and robbed turning in loot that is fair enough but if I am fishing and get snipped? Where is the line there?
There is litrally no progression in the game to take away. Gold buys cosmetics from a pool of limited items. That excuse only makes sense if you get an advantage.
@rivyer написал в Private Servers:
@nefrit-od Yeah sure. That old P****g contest excuse is also tiresome. "Git Gud harhar."
Do you want me to provide link how i'm solo killing megan and skelly ship on a slopp with new ship dmg just yesterday ?
Dude problem is that you playing solo and complaining about game being hard - Game not hard and if you don't want to grow up in solo skill, then maybe you can get help ?
There are tons of Discords, clans, guilds who searching for fellow pirates to play with. Not a big deal. But instead of this you asking gamechanging mechanic from devs - that's selfish.
I know it's possible, never said it wasnt, never said I hadn't done it. What I'm saying is my friend, the world is just as capable as ruining you as a player crew. It's not complaining but discussing a simple addition that won't effect anyone.
I dont understand this mentality of the side of the community so dead set against it.
It made no difference to GTA and wouldn't here either.
As for watching your content I'd love to buddy. Not to learn anything but to just watch someone enjoying a game I love.@katttruewalker,
The problem is, players are constantly leaving this game, so we are then forced to play with other people we might not really want to be playing with. Sure we could solo out there, but that is becoming harder and harder to do after each update, the sloop can no longer out turn a larger ship which can now deploy it's harpoon and make a tight turn, and you have no chance in open water, not to mention being harpooned off your sloop, additional damage to deal with etc etc, so out option is to be forced to play with others to try to enjoy the game. For me personally, I've about had enough now. Solo is now no fun, and I don't want to play with randoms, or spend an evening with people I don't know. So what do I do instead? Simple. I don't bother playing it very often. But I'm just one player, everyone has their own preferences for a game session. But the bottom line is: we are now forced to play with others in order to achieve anything. Not all console players will get on with that.@rivyer hey there, yes i have come accross them and after i changed my mindset (from hating the pvp to accepting it in its full) i was able to train to get better at it, both pvp and evasion tactics.
If you look up the description of sea of thieves it states you are bound to come accross other crews with not knowing if they will be friendly or hostile, its part of the win/lose meta this game has.
If in on my gally with my crew we usually see other ships as dangerous to our cause and therefore will have to move away if they are at an island we need to be at.
I came accross my fare share of crews with complete disregard for their ship and actively trying to hunt us down even though we sank them continuously its annoying yes, and borderline harrassing, but as long as they dont start shouting racist or the like slurs i am good and just show them my effectiveness at sinking or outsailing them
@callmebackdraft Everyone seems to be under the impression I am dead set against PVP. Totally not, I just want the best for every player of the game to enjoy it how they want which is also part of the games baseline.
At the moment there are players not enjoying it and refusing to come back to it. I've been invested in this game since day one of hearing about it.
Its growth over the last year has been amazing to watch. My crew and I treat every ship we see as a threat and mostly evade if we have cargo. It's the being attacked when clearly being none threatening that gets on my nerves.
Example, yesterday we sailed into an outpost to turn in the Stormbreaker and did it fine. While we where listening to the closing dialogue a Galleon came from nowhere (We always check the surrounding area for players) they saw our docked ship and sank it. Fair. I've done the same to others. Then they docked. We clearly stated we wouldn't attack and started heading to the mermaid. Oh look. Cannons and Sniper fire. Waved a fishing rod at them, which at most would mildly irritate someone. Sniped dead.
Yes it got me to my ship but the whole thievery thing didnt even come into play. Fair enough of we decided to retaliate and attack back or attempt to board then but the mermaid was the opposite direction.
This is just a recent example, it happens everytime my crew is on. I play for hours alone barely seeing another ship as soon as a friend joins we get set upon, they are tired of it. To a point where they dont want to play.
It's easy to say "They should get better." Or "Get a better crew." But these are my actual friends, we got the game as a group to play around in.
It's just sad that its losing players that could be swayed back with a simple fix.Sorry for being ranty. Just love this game and know loads of people that would too.
@needsmokes Same, I’d never turn it off if I could sloop alone. This is exactly why every person I play with deserted the game originally. I don’t want to ALWAYS have to be on high alert, at every moment in a beautiful game that you want to enjoy your time in.
Private servers haven’t ruined every other game that offers them, GTAV is hardly a dead game after all!Even if private servers never happen, the ability to join a friend’s server on another boat would help, as another reason for private servers is being able to play with more than 3 friends. We have 5 eager players right now, we can’t play together.
Echoed by myself and every single person I play with, who I spent months and months persuading to come back, and who are still usually unimpressed.
We’re all in our 30’s and 40’s, we all game with our mates to have a laugh. We all alpha/beta tested and loved it.
Sometimes you want to just enjoy the game and relax whilst in the SoT world!

I've never understood the mindset of someone who tries using an activity in the game as a justification on why they shouldn't be attacked. "I'm a merchant, why are you attacking me!" In your case fishing, but just because your doing 'Insert Faction farming here' gives you no special protection from being targeted or in this case removed from the area. If I someone is on an outpost, and I want to cash out, bet your money I'm sinking them and removing the risk you pose to my loot.
Here's the thing, people lie. The amount of times people have said one thing, yet clearly wasn't true is commonplace. Had a guy said they had no loot while they ran, caught them sank them. Up comes a treasure trove of loot. Another was they claimed to be doing a gold hoarders, when infact they were doing an Athena. We stalked them and stole the Legendary Chest. You saying that you won't attack, is potentially just another lie, why should I risk it?
