Please remove the sword lunge glitch

  • The one where you lunge into the water and get a massive boost. It's ridiculous, and it's a glitch and everyone uses it to get onto my ship when I sail past an island. It ain't right

  • Dude, this bug is in the game since launch, and, us, the users, used that technique so, the devs said they weren't going to fix that bug, and turn it like if it was a feature. You will need to learn how to do it instead of trying to remove something that is BASIC in this game.

You don't need to come to the forums to complain and say the devs remove a feature that 95% of the player base (or the 100% of the active and recurrent player base) uses.

  • Hello friend,

You must be new here as someone posts this every few months. The sword lunge tactics are not glitches, they are intended features in the game. Learn it, master it, expect it.

    Cheers!

  • @kzoo-kid Well no, it's not really a feature, it's a bug, but as I said in my post above, the devs said it was alright and aren't going to fix that bug.

  • @eggamer13 Hence, it is a feature. It would be accurate to say it "was" a bug, not that it is a bug.

  • @kzoo-kid A bug it's a bug, before and now. But, now that bug is considered a feature, but, it really wasn't intended and it was and is a bug.

  • @eggamer13 It WAS a bug, it IS now an intended feature.

  • @kzoo-kid Dude, if it was a bug it never was INTENDED.

  • @eggamer13 You are right, it wasn't intended, it was a bug. Now, however, it is intended. Therefore, it is no longer a bug it is an intended feature. You can argue with yourself if you want but I'm done.

    Cheers!

  • @kzoo-kid This is my last post. It is a feature but not an intended one!
An intended feature is a feature that the devs program specifically to do that, in this case, this is an unintended feature.

An unintended feature is a feature that the devs didn't plan to bring to the game and didn't program that thing to do specifically that.

  • an "unexpected feature" found by players in existing mechanics and now the devs call it a feature.

Learn to watch ladders and listen for sound queues. Problem solved.

  • So, no jumping, no sword lunging. What other tactics does your opponents use, that you struggle to counter, would you like removed next?

  • @spartanmatt0x Listen, I hate to be the one to break this to you, but the devs aren’t going to completely change their game just because you can’t deal with PVP. The “Bug” in question became an official feature quite some time ago. Like I have said in some of your other suggestions, there is no magic solution/hot fix to your shortcomings in PVP. If you want to get better, practice makes perfect.

  • @spartanmatt0x Altough I understand that it can be annoying it's increadibly easy to fight off if you know they're coming so I don't really see why a need for removal, maybe if they finally added boarding hooks or something like that, otherwise a sword lunge might be the only way someone can really board your ship without ramming or hitting an increadibly lucky shot with a cannon.

  • The sword lunge is actually quite fun and fits the SoT world just fine. It's right up there with firing crew out of the cannons.

Intended or not, it's a fun feature and I'm happy Rare hasn't removed it.

  • You guys have some real issues.
If a bug turns out to be a loved part of the game mechanic - you might not love it aswell - but this simple fact just tells us it cant be a bug.

Some of the best games in history are build on the ''bug becomes a feature'' thing. (wich by definition btw means its no bug anymore, just saying).

Look at all the old shooters wich intruduced strafe-jumping and stuff, cause the engine woud allow players to move faster when they not only go one way but 2 at once. It was mostly used by speedrunners until Quake 3 came out and everyone used it - it never got fixed - and nobody wants to fix it cause it made the game faster and people loved it.

So if the majority of a playerbase together with the developer decide its not a bug, its defently a feature - you can think what you want, but it wont change reality.

And btw - about your issues with PVP. You can avoid 99,99% of the encounters no problem by just checking some points:

    1. Wich ship do they use, wich ship do you use. If they use a different ship - just go away in a direction you are faster - will 100% make you get away. If they have the same ship, just use objects to your advantage - they cant know what you do if they cant see you.
    2. Use a blunder for shooting in defense. It will push enemys of the ship and oneshoot people trying to get on your ship with the ladders (you can hear them coming).
    3. Be aware of whats arround you.

If you care about that theres basicly only one chance you get [Mod edited] over, and thats someone hitting a long range shoot with a cursed cannonball (wich rarly happens cause most people dont use them on high range) or shooting himself on your boat wich will not work 99% of the time aswell. And even if one of these 2 things happen, you still didnt instantly lose - you still have a chance to fight back.

  • @Kazmor Please refrain from swearing on the forums, as it is a violation of our forum rules. Your post has been edited accordingly.

  • I remember back in the 80s when Dhalsim's teleport in Street Fighter was considered a bug, but became an intended feature that's been with the character ever since. Ah, those were the days!

There are things that need to be fixed with this game, to be sure, but this is NOT 1 of them.

  • @spartanmatt0x

This has been in the game since launch. I can't believe people are starting to complain about it now, let alone complain about it at all.

This community drives me crazy sometimes. A lot of great people here, but then there's a good portion that likes to make issues out of absolutely nothing.

  • @eggamer13 creepers were a bug in Minecraft. Would they still be considered a bug?

  • @d-jaguar No, because after the visual bug with the pig, they thought about creating a new mob, and introduce new mechanics for that specific mob.

  • If they got rid of the sword lunge at this point I would likely stop playing the game.

  • Mate every single post of yours has something to do with you being on the receiving end of something, then asking for it to be removed. The vast majority love the lunge, while it may have origins of being a bug, its bug status got elevated to unintended feature. Git Gud, either learn to use and counter it, or prepared to always be on the receiving end with it. It isn't going anywhere.

  • Yeah, you know what else needs to be removed guys? Blocking. I hate it when I'm just trying to cut a player down with my cutlass, and they just take their sword and turn it in an almost horizontal but mostly diagonal position, in order to deflect the blow and spare themselves of damage. It's sooooo annoying and needs to be removed, right guys?

The sword lunge isn't going to be removed. For how many people use it, for not even ship boarding, I find it highly unlikely it will ever be changed or pulled.

This makes no sense whatsoever. If a developer looks at a bit of code and views as creating an undesired effect, then it is considered a bug. If a developer looks at that same bit of code and views it as something they want to keep, it is considered a feature... and no longer considered a bug. The way the sword lunge works now is not a bug. It can't be both a feature and a bug.

  • It's not a bug... It's a feature.

  • I think that they have decided that it is good for the game. Once you master it it can be a real time saver for crossing water, reaching hard to get to places and just getting around.

It's the only reason that I carry the Cutlass.

  • @lady-aijou
    Hey Lady,

I just want to argue about that for a moment if you are fine with that.

I didnt swear on the forum cause your filter prevents it - so I didnt violate your forum rules, right?
According to rules theres only punishment for bypassing the profanity filter not for using vulgar Language and getting blocked by the automatic profanity filter.

I think you just wanted to be nice and let me know it woud be nice from me if I woud not do it again. I woud be super fine with that. However if that shoud have been some kind of warning I woud say thats not quiet fair.

    Suggestion:
The term I used there is pretty common in normal slang - If you dont want people to use it and the profanity filter knows this - just prevent people from writing it at all. So if you click on ''Submit'' you shoud get a message with ''plz remove this'' - in this case you woudnt have someone swearing by accident and tbh I was seeing it getting removed automaticly so I was thinking theres no action from my side needed anymore. Woud have saved you some work - and considering this game is probably staying arround for a while you might consider this to save some work in future. I mean what is the profanity filter good for if you go and edit all of these posts in person anyway.

And btw a reason why I hate profanity filters is that I need to use 18 words for telling people what I like to eat: ''I love meatballs made of minced pork liver and heart, wrapped in bacon, with some onions and crumbs'' - while without a profanity filter I coud have done that in simple 3 words. (and as a german I like to be ''effective'') And probably get banned for it cause some snowflake woud be offended even if its only food...

    Greetings.

    oh and...

    Hello :P

  • Really man can I have the name of your dealer lol I need to know if it's that good that you do crazy thing like post this. It's one of the best things in the game and adds so much to the combat. It's not unfair, nor does it one shot kill, nor does it make it impossible to defend yourself. It's fun.
To do it takes practice but it's worth the time. Hold block and lunge at the same time count to three and on three press the jump button and go flying from anywhere. Or go to the edge of something and hold lunge and go flying. You will love it

  • you can't ask the devs to remove something that 90% of the playerbase uses and does not want removed and not expect to get grief from a large number of people on this forum,

  • hahahaa good one..
