The Ebon Flintlock pistol skin problem

  • I'm posting this once more, I'm not sure whether this is the correct place in the forum, but I think it is.

As you probably already heard a lot of people complain about, here am I to do the exact same thing, yaay \o/

I've been watching these forums and the one on Microsofts/Mixer's website on and off today, to see if there was any development regarding this problem.

As far as I can see there is none. Not in the Slightest even.

So here I go, laying it all out once more.
Sit tight, grab some savage snacks and sail your ship in circles to get some sweet Athena's Mileage, it's going to be a long one.

Like a lot of us. i didn't receive my ebon pistol skin form watching the Xbox inside live stream last week yet either.
I was one of the first viewers as well (I think roughly 20 minutes before the stream started) and sat through the whole thing (even though I know I didn't have to), people have told me they joined being the 13000th+ viewer, only watching it for around 2 minutes, and they did receive the skin almost a day later!

I thought: "Well maybe it's because Rare were celebrating their 4 day Easter weekend, so they haven't been able to hand out every singe pistol skin yet, and this would have made a lot of sense to me.

This was until I read someone say "I already contacted SoT/ Rare, they told me it was in (Microsoft's) hands".
This made me worry, I now think that if you didn't receive the skin by now, you'll most likely not receive it anymore, which makes me not want to play the game anymore just out of pure principle.

Yes I know, it's just an in game skin, it's just some particles, but as a collector and dedicated player, who really wanted this skin (do not forget we were promised this as well,), I can't help but feel betrayed/scammed.
SoT revolves around skins, and "showing off" your dedication and special skins, it's the only thing you can buy from your hard earned gold at this moment.

If I can't do this because I'm not receiving the skin I was promised, even though I did exactly what was needed/asked, well that just chops off a huge part of what makes SoT, at least for me personally (and from what I've seen, many others as well).

Also this "Qualification", limited amount nonsense is total BS, nowhere did it say in the announcements that we had to qualify to have a CHANCE at the skin, everywhere, from twitter to discord to even the livestream itself, it was never stated anywhere except for the so called Mixpot FAQ, which made it all super vague for everyone.

And on top of that, the skin was handed out randomized, every single person that reacted to my posts leads me to this Mixpot FAQ, where it clearly states "First come first serve" but this isn't the case, it was given out randomly.., so why is the limitation a thing, while the "first come first serve" statement is just thrown out the window?

This is all super unneeded if you ask me, I mean it's just a bunch of code right? why not just give it to everyone that watched in the first place?

Now I hear a lot of people say they are getting send back and forth between Rare, Microsoft and Mixer, ending up on the Mixer help forums, where the only help we receive is the same simple non informatic "BS" response by multiple members of support, and no actual answers as to where it all went wrong and how this is going to be resolved.

Yes.. I have looked into my order history, as have we all, No.. there is nothing in there, even though I did EXACTLY what was asked, again as have we all.
We all knew what we had to do, this is an error on Rare's/Microsoft's and or Mixer's side.

Either this is all a huge miscommunication which will hopefully be resolved and answered soon, or it's a lame unnecessary attempt to keep the Ebon flintlock skin "limited or exclusive" whatever you want to call it, so it can be used as a bait for the next Xbox inside or whatever stream, where the same thing will probably happen again...

Love the game, but this is no way to tread loyal fans, or anyone for that matter.

So at this point i'll uninstall the game if me and all the other members that are missing the skin won't receive the skin soon.

Even if it's given to everyone that now owns the game just to resolve this problem, I personally don't care.

I've seen the suggestion to make a poll, to see how many people that joined the stream BEFORE it actually started, this to see if there might have been a bug which made it so "most" people that joined the stream beforehand didn't qualify for the skin.
Maybe this would be handy, no idea how we're going to pull this off yet, but it might fix the issue.

Either that or again.. just give the damn pistol skin and everyone will be happy :')

Please let yourself hear if you still miss the skin so this gets some attention.

Thanks for reading. Yarr, yoho and all that dwibbledwebble.

While I understand your frustration, you have to understand that RARE isn’t just going to give out the skin to anyone who claims to have watched the stream. Do you have any proof you watched the stream besides your word? If they just started handing out the skin to anybody who claimed they watched the stream, literally anybody could get it. There is no easy solution here, your best bet is to simply wait for the next opportunity to acquire the skin, I mean after all it is just a meaningless in game cosmetic.

  • @exeternautical unfortunately this is true. There's probably no way to prove you watched the stream. I watched the whole thing as well and haven't got it. Dang

  • Im in the same boat. I think its rediculous that we are just screwed out of this cosmetic bc of some fault with mixpot. I also was tuned in before the stream started so perhaps that had something to do with it. Was really looking forward to this skin...sad when I missed out a year ago. Don't really want to have to try again in a years time just to have it not work.

  • There were a lot of people typing in the chat things like '!sot' and '!flintlock'. I'm hoping that the chat serves as some sort of record of who was and wasn't there, as i am in the same boat, watched the whole thing (including pre-show) and received nothing

  • @exeternautical Actually, it can very easily be proved because Microsoft and Mixer have a log of every time you log in and out of their system and you also get viewership points for the longer you watch a stream which can be tracked. They have ways to tell, but are they going to go through that effort for possibly hundreds of thousands of people who make a claim - that's the real question. They better get their DBA/SQL Admin on this and start running a query to gather this all up, because if they don't the community is not going to let this go.

I didn't get mine either, and I have followed all their troubleshooting steps thus far to claim a misplaced Mixpot. I am doubtful I will ever hear back from anyone as I work in this industry for a living and know how Microsoft is.

    Update
I just got a response to my Support Request on the Xbox support site: "https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbox/forum/xba_gapp/mixpot-wasnt-issued-sea-of-thieves-ebon-flintlock/b572d19e-383f-4f17-ad05-95735253f36f?tm=1556050454624"

    Hello Jeep,

We understand that you have an inquiry in regards to not receiving the Ebon Flintlock pistol through the Mixer MixPot event.

We are working on getting an update to all users who have come to the forums with this question, and there will be an update posted on these forums in regards to this issue.

    Best wishes!

  • Same boat. Joined the stream before it started. Watched the entire thing. No flintlock.

Just talked to Microsoft support. They verified some info and said they would escalate it to their team to investigate. Also directed me to mixer.com/contact for assistance through them. Now I'm just waiting to hear back from either or both support teams.

Im sure Microsoft can easily see what anyone was doing on their network and hardware at any given moment, but without knowing what they are looking for, it's like finding a needle in a field of haystacks without knowing you're even looking for the needle.

  • @pindazakkie

That sucks, did you comment anything? I made a comment like "I love SOT, just to prove in the chat log I was there (and to show my support)

So at this point i'll uninstall the game if me and all the other members that are missing the skin won't receive the skin soon.

I would be upset too if I didn't get the skin but it wouldn't cause me to uninstall. They already have my money, what do they lose?

  • @pindazakkie Rare and Microsoft eventually have given out the items they promised. Keep in mind there a lot of people that tune into these events due to the nature of it, sometimes things go wrong and delays happen, this is not the first nor the last time this will happen in the world.

Also your ignorance about software development and stating that things being just a bunch of code so just give it to us already is flabbergasting. If you believe it is easy to create and make just a bunch of code, a system that registers everyone and hands it out to people that own the game, integrate it with the game to register they are being given the item and making it available for them. We are talking about many hours of human effort to create that code, test it out and make it work at the scale they do. Software is not flawless and just stating it is a bunch of code, really shows the lack of understanding of what it means to create something like this. Go ahead try it out, see if you can make a integrated system that works with an account system, a registry system, a tracking system and a delivery system and see if you can do it better than the people at Microsoft or Rare while scaling it up to the thousands of simultaneous entries from all across the world.

This is the real world, not everything goes as planned and it is how they solve the issue that shows if they care about their customers. They give you a generic answer 'cause though they are working on it and cannot give you a date and time they fix it. They themselves first have to pinpoint the mistake, understand what is going wrong and fix it or simply grab all the thousands of peoples data and find a way to analyze it and provide those people with it that were missed by the system.

It is frustrating I get it, though please try to understand that it really isn't all that easy as you think it is. Give them some time, it isn't the biggest deal if you have to wait an additional couple of weeks for something you are getting for going to a website at a specific time and linking it to your account. Same thing happened with pretty much every other give away, there always issues and mistakes... it is kind of the standard in software, it is never flawless when you scale it to this degree.

If you decide to stop playing, I wish you the best of luck and else enjoy the seas and may the wind be behind you. Games in the end are about the game play and joy they give, not the pixels.

  • I received my flintlock. Not sure if Microsoft support is responsible or if it was mixer.com/contact that did it but they clearly looked into for me and took care of it. I would suggest doing the same if you still haven't gotten it yet.

  • @testakleze When did you received it?
I was also on the stream, i have written manythings in the chat like "Write !Flintlock in the chat to get the skin" :)
So i was here, i even fall asleep watching this after 2h.

Hope it's just a question of time.

  • @hephytelion I contacted Microsoft support yesterday afternoon and talked to a rep. They not only said they would look into it but told me to contact mixer also. So I did. I went to work, came home, and saw I had received both items in my app and system notifications. Apparently someone either with Microsoft or with mixer checked it for me and pushed through both mixpot items.

  • @testakleze Okok, i'll check tonight if i have received my flintlock. If not, i'll also contact the support

  • All,

Last night I got on the community Discord to play for an hour or two and just randomly struck up this conversation again about the flintlock (everyone has been talking about it). One of the guys in our channel said that he just got his a couple of hours ago (5pm est.). I immediately went over to the armory cabinet and there it was - finally the flintlock had been delivered.

From all the threads started on the Xbox forums and replies from Microsoft Moderators, it seems like there has been a technical issue as to why the pistols weren't getting delivered due to those who were watching before the stream began. Whether I got the pistol because of my post in the forums last night or because they resolved whatever technical issue there was - that I do not know. What I do know is that my issue with this has been resolved, and hopefully this update will help any remaining users who are still searching for answers.

  • @sexyjeep Let's wait some more then

  • Log into your mixer account. Your notifications will tell you when you've received it. Also it will show up as a "purchase" on your microsoft account.

I got mine a couple days later. Mixer has the logs to prove you watched the stream as long as you were logged in. odds are better if you contributed to the chat.

    Good luck!

  • Hey!

So we have reason to believe that a number of people are having an issue whereby the item has been granted to their account but isn't showing up in-game. We've updated our Mixpot support article with more details on what you can do if you're having issues finding items you should have received: https://support.seaofthieves.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360001880588--Mixer-Mixpot-Promotional-Items

  • Random Person on Forum: makes entire post saying how he feels neglected because he didn’t get a pistol skin, gets a response from Rare

Every Legend who’s complained about feeling neglected due to lack of content: makes a post about why they feel neglected and what Rare can do to solve their problem; never get a response from Rare and have continued to get neglected for the past year

    Yeah, sounds about right.

  • @takuboto I do want to point out a danger in doing the wsreset. After learning that my Microsoft Account showed that I did receive the Ebon Flintlock, I was asked to do this and, once completed, the game wouldn't launch beyond the Sea of Thieves logo for more than a second before closing unceremoniously. This impacted both builds of the game and the only way to fix it was a complete uninstall/reinstall of SoT and Insider.

I will also add that the wsreset didn't work and I still had no flintlock. I've been told by Support that it has now been added, so I'll check tonight.

  • For the record, my crew-mate and I both watched the stream, and our fancy new guns just showed up last night. There was a notification when starting the game (both of us on Xbox).

And no, neither of us posted anything in the stream chat in order to 'activate' it. Though I may have posted once or twice making fun of those who did. ;)

  • Didnt get it either within the week after the stream.

I didnt send any tickets but today the Pistol was finally in my inventory.

There was no message from Xbox-Live in my Xbox-App like it was by my friends who got it in time. And it is/was not listed in my Microsoft account under Payments & Billing / Order History.

So check ur inventory today (maybe tomorrow?) before u send any tickets.

    Greets, Nash
