Add a barrier to the brigantine and galleon for new players.

    New players should not be able to play on a brigantine or galleon unless they have done 1 voyage for the Order of Souls, Gold Hoarders and Merchant Alliance. Make it more extreme even and make it so new players CANNOT touch a brig or galleon until having 10 hours put into the game or a different milestone because honestly it is hard to find a crew that has any clue what they are doing, there are so many trolls about that join and go straight up the mast looking for kegs 50% of games. There should be some kind of option to play with people (in a server, not just crew) who have either had the game for a long time or have passed said milestones. Yes I get that a solid 85% are not logical thinkers but wow this needs to be implemented some way or another. Not wanting to play a game because of how inconvenient teammates are in a team oriented game is bizarre. Especially given how simple this game really is.

    Maybe add a friends only crew option that cannot be changed to open, to reinforce this and still give the new players an option to play on a brig or galleon with friends only immediately.

    Am I the only one who thinks is or the only one wanting to say something?

    @frostknighhd FIRST: I do see how you can dislike having new players on Galleons and Brigantines, but the whole point of Sea of Thieves is to have an adventure, excluding new players from using the most fun ships to use, which is subjectively the Galleon, will push them away from the game, and I'm assuming you don't want this game to die anytime soon do you? SECOND: Some new players may not have any friends to play this game with them, so adding a friends-only section could be problematic.
    @Deckhands It may good for you to interject here as well.

    @frostknighhd Don't worry, when they add the feature to be able to disable Crossplay; all the xbox players will instantly toggle it on and you'll only be matched with PC players (If you're on PC to begin with). That solves 99% of your problem because every PC player I've met is at least competent. I still think it's kind of weird that they are only allowing the Xbox players to segregate themselves from the PC players but not the other way around.

    @frostknighhd you could just search on LFG for the specific kind of players you want too. Most of time, it'll help with not running into players you dont want.

    There is also a closed crew playlist so you can invite your friends too.

    @frostknighhd and you think they are getting better, when they sail alone on a sloop, when nobody is there to tell them how to play? Wouldn't it be better beginners were forced to play on a galleon, so they have experienced players with them who can show them the basics?

    @zaannox I have come across good xbox players, it isn't that uncommon. I don't care for the crossplay option shenanigans as you can now play the game with mouse & keyboard on xbox. So I am just waiting for the whole drama of xbox only servers with kb&m people DOMINATING casual xbox players even though PC ain't there.

    @schwammlgott I learnt how to play the game by playing alone or with a friend on a sloop. It is best to learn to micromanage sailing, cannoning, being aware of your surroundings to not get rolled up on or boarded. If I relied on other people from the get-go, I would be terrible like most people I come across on a brig or galleon.

    That goes exactly against the spirit of the game. People should experience a galleon or brig first BEFORE they go solo'ing. This way people can teach them the ropes because the game does a horrible job of it.

    Now I understand that you only want to play with the best players out there, for that I can only tell you that you shouldn't play in open.

    What would eleviate some of your pain (as a suggestion I've made before here) is a mentor system. New players are assigned a rank of Newb/ Swab/ Greenhorn etc. and players choosing so will become Mentor/ Master/ Captain/ Bosewain etc. When a new player starts an open session they should be grouped with a few other new players and a mentor, this way the new players can have specific people who can answer their questions and teach them the ropes who choose to be those people (I personally love teaching new people the ropes) and new players get people instructing them in stead of people telling them they are awefull (shame on people who do this by the way, we were all new at some point).

    The Newbe rank would fade over time and everyone should be happy.

    Telling people to do a mandatory hard mode will turn of people who would otherwise love the game.

    I don't know...i wonder myself, because I'm using the chatpad, and when you stand, for example, in front of the wheel it says "Press x to grab", when I push "t" on the chatpad to write it says "press F to grab"
    Hope it doesn't put me into the pc servers then

    @schwammlgott I think this is most of the reason why the option won't be ready before the Arena drops. People can either just plug in a keyboard after they started the game with just a controller or they can't use the chatpad on a controller only server.

    @goedecke-michel My expirience has always been that most, not all, Xbox players are bad at games. Now of course there are the exceptional few that can do absolute magic with a controller and I fear these people. Have you ever seen a good controller gamer? Those guys are scary man! They can easily compete with KB&M people; any day. But that is a small percentage of the Xbox community; so small that Rare themselves has agreed to a system that allows them to take themselves out of the pool entirely. Not to mention, most little 4-8 year old kids don't have a PC, they have an Xbox. So no it's not a "prejudice" if it's based on facts and my own experience. I suggest you know a words true meaning before you use it.

    I disagree with this. i've met so many good people on sloops in matchmaking

    If I'm alone I do not want to play with a newer player, let them pick the galleon. Open matchmaking there is useless.

    I think a better idea would be to put all new players into a temporary private server as they go through the brief tutorial and their 1st few voyages (one from each company + the 1st mercenary voyage - these would be the only ones available on the server). They can use the time to acclimate themselves to the ship of their choice, invite friends, explore the world, encounter randomly generated PvE opponents, or even do a fort and/or ship battle. Upon completion of their 1st few voyages, mentioned above, they will then automatically be server-merged into a standard server where they can then become real pirates with a bit of skin in the game.

    Alternatively, they can initiate the server merger earlier at any time via the crew menu, or forgo the private server altogether from a prompt at the beginning of the tutorial if they so choose.

    (probably PL or quite experienced at least)
    trolling open crews having fun ruining someone else's experience, yes
    but new players "who don't know what they are doing",
    usually don't do that.

    @mich2mars just had an instance of what had to be a new player trolling. kept anchoring while chasing a ship. would keep going afk. didnt know to hold down to repair holes. if people had brains maybe there would be no complaints. NEW IDEA HOW ABOUT IF YOU GO AFK FOR 15 SECONDS YOU SHOULD GET KICKED JUST LIKE IN ROCKET LEAGUE. fr.

    why hinder others? instead, you should start sailing a closed Crew and you wont have that problem. you cant Force people to start a certain way, the game was a discovery for us all and expects us to get better by practice and exposure to the events that take place. Demanding they start on a sloop makes no sense, especially when some people start the game with a group of friends, that would make them all have to start a solo sloop in order to move up to a brig or a galleon? lol.. no mate.. try instructing them or helping them learn the game via experience, but dont suggest something that punishes new players. ever watch DrDisrespect and His first sloop sailing experience ? look it up, its hilarious.. he is doing exactly what new players do and come in contact with

    I would disagree completely, taking side with a lot of the negatives already mentioned.

    I would also say the exact opposite. I think random crew on a sloop, if anything, should be restricted.

    I only say this because, I've been trying to open my sloop to random crew, hoping to be able to play with someone with a little experience, or the opportunity to help a new player learn a little.

    Unfortunately, out of about 20 people, I've had two new players who actually tried and one competent player.

    Otherwise, it's guys that just drop anchor, change heading and sails, throw loot overboard... It's rampant and I don't understand it. 17 out of 20 matches... Are these things bots??

    But when you're on a sloop, trying to complete a voyage and you're stuck with an individual who is only trying to ruin your game... There's absolutely nothing you can do. You're forced to try to wait them out or simply give up and leave the game.

    I really hate this, because I love sloop and I enjoy helping new players periodically... But I've just given up on random crew sloops and only go solo.

    Ahoy there, whilst it can be frustrating playing with pirates whose goal seems to be to disrupt your voyages, I think it's very doubtful that we would see any restrictions imposed that would reduce the options available for all pirates, whether new or experienced.

    Going back as far as 2017, one of the statements made by Rare about Sea of Thieves talks about removing barriers rather than creating them.

    'Our goal with Sea of Thieves was to create a new kind of multiplayer experience – one that challenged perceptions of what multiplayer can be, and gives players a unique and fresh experience. We believe so passionately in the magic of multiplayer, and want to create an adventure that breaks down barriers between gamers playing together. We want to give potential pirates freedom over how they play, the goals they choose to take on, and ultimately the adventures they have together.'

    So along with this freedom they've given us tools to use which are aimed at giving us choices - 'Tools not rules' - brig, scuttle, change servers, LFG, closed and open crews, finding crews using the official discord, as well as players setting up their own fleets of like minded pirates.

    They have this, it's called closed crew and it's how most people play because playing with random strangers isn't very fun.

    The closed crew option has been in game the whole time; you should use it to save your sanity.

    @zaannox first off this isn’t even close to what the discussion is on. Second an Xbox player can’t be bad at Xbox games so that complete contradicts the idea of Xbox players are bad at games. Most Xbox players are FPS shooters and platformers so SoT isn’t exactly the territory of the average Xbox player. Now saying that I have experienced many a good Xbox player and some really bad pc players (no it’s not the other way around what I’m saying is exactly as I’m saying.) Everything you said is a stereotype and not even the truth of Xbox players. Xbox players are not even close to being mostly 4-8 yrolds and there are a bunch of kids of that age and a tad older that have PCs. You sir are well uninformed of today’s modern age and how mostly teens are Xbox gamers.

Any new Pirate should have played ten hours before he or she is able to choose a Galleon or Brigantine"...How on Earth is a new Pirate going to be able to learn the game if he or she is forced into a Solo Sloop adventure ? ...They will be chewed by the AI and other Pirates that don't use their noticing skills towards their sailor clothes and ship cosmetics. i bet if you would have your go then only 10 percent of the New Pirates get 10 hours together and finally catch a Galleon where they will be called once again noobs...Wow , Great fun that will be...

    i will tell you what you can do ... i have come across random crews in both ships , sometimes those ships seems Ghost Ships where nobody talks but then the stubborn donkey in myself awakes ( * Ow , George , don't compare yourself with a Donkey , he carried the Lord Himself , what do you carry around? Huh , yokel? Your own bowels with content, fool), and i talk , ask questions , like an unrelentless parrot , untill the first one opens up communications , then it doesn't take long or the rest of the crew talks ...Then you can subtle teach them the basics without coming over superior...This way you slowly mould a crew and within the hour you have four strangers working together ...Are they flawless ? No , Sir , but they work together and learn from their mistakes...And i see them grow together and may become Friends...i'm an older person so i don't care much for achievements , winnings and losses ...All i want is to contribute that what once was given to me , but i can tell you two things.... Opening people up to force them to communicate and then try to let them work together in wich they get to know the ship , the world that surrounds them and the crew gives me such a great feel of accomplishment that if our time together run out , i walk away with a feel of proud on them and a good feel in myself for the fact that the Worst Pirate Ever still can succeed to make people work together ...But if you had yer say , that would be impossible...You simply can't expect that new or silent Pirates are as good as you on the game ...You can do two things , get frustrated and run to a new server , over and over again , or ...You can be a real Pirate and share your experience to start shaping a crew that will start to work together and start to like that kind of crew cooperation...It's your choice, the easy way of serverhopping and finally find a " good" crew or... Spend some time to teach the new and get a mental reward from seeing them work together....You're still a free man and nomatter what you choose ,is okay by me , but personally i know what to choose , because i get more joy from sharing then keeping it all for myself...

    That's not the reason why i try to include every random that steps in our crew...Little sidenote , without my Friends Mrs Deviouz Dogz and Mr J4dio i wouldn't be that courageous to reach out but together with them i can flatten mountains...No, i like the concept of Multiplayer Games but most games nowadays seem to lack a tutorial, so in order to understand what has to be done , one needs to read Forums watch You Tube or Mixer Streams but if you don't have much time you like to learn the game by playing...But what happens ...Some games have levelbased progress and a highlevel one sneezes at a low level one and he or she dies instantly...Or you get instantly killed by a more experienced player...Recently ,i played Day Z, yes i know it's a Blasphemy to leave SOT but i just wanted to try something different...i came across AI zombies wich i left at peace knowing they would kick my living daylight out of my eyes ....Suddenly i see a real player and i say : " Hello, Sir ,i'm new and can you hel..." ." Wham, wham...that was his answer and Old George lay flattened on his back...My Blasphemy lasted one half hour and i was back at sailing , very happy i could withdraw to a World where i feel good...And know what i do there..This and a more personal reason makes that i want to include people in our crew , new or seasoned ,i don't care ...If a person walks away with a good feeling then my day can never be broken...And a Tavern name won't change that , Rare may take it away , i won't play any different...

    @clumsy-george oh, I doubt they take that tavern name away in the slightest. Well what I like is that coming into that crew and coming out with a good feeling. That’s what I was more glad about, I knew the tavern isn’t the goal for such actions and that’s what I really liked about your reply. That’s why I was glad the had a tavern after you, because of how you play and the person you are.
