Evil merfolk

  • I love the lore behind the merfolk. That is why i would love to see evil merfolk as a new enemy type. They could be found on shores and try to hypnotize you with their voice.

  • They could have regular evil merfolk that when sailing along they will randomly try to attack your ship by climbing the sides or something and you have to fend em off your ship.

  • it would be cool if merfolk were to be introduced within a content update featuring more verticallity, or depth in the literal sense. for example, new locations such as reefs, ruins, and ship graveyards would be infested with these new enemies.

  • @xix-zeno-xix I was thinking more along the lines of fighting for lootin shipwrecks or mermaid statues cause them trying to get on your ship seems like a fish out of water situation lol but how about when you're moving treasure on the rowboat seems they could do some damage from there or loot from kraken and meg cause you killed a "majestic beast ". be horrific if they rode the regular sharks. lol

  • I used to think the hungering deep was going to bring us hostile mermaids since I had already seen concept art for them before then. I was wrong but I've still be waiting for them to show up.

  • How about the hostile mermaids making the exact same sound as mermaid statues. From a distance they look the same as well and mermaids might stay still to bait you. And then once you get close they swim to you rapidly. Imagine how frightening that would be..

  • The Artbook shows Rare had an idea about it.

Ahoy there, you can see some interesting things regarding merfolk in the Art of Adventure Panel at Comic-Con 2016.

We've just recently heard that Merrick's wife ran off with a Merman briefly, they definitely crop up in the novel and the Tales of Sea of Thieves book as well as in game via paintings etc, so there are lots of hints that we might learn more about mermaids at some point, whether hostile, friendly or ambivalent towards pirates - there are also hints that some are definitely not well disposed towards us!

  • I agree, evil merfolk would be interesting. As well I like the idea of them being on the shores, maybe have mermaid statues protected by them in 2 ways. Either trident that works like the sword that they swim to you to attack you in the water or they will sing and if you are above water you will hear the screech (same distance as hearing the mermaid statues) that will make you drunk but below water you will be fine and hear a nice tune. This way rare wouldn’t have to program new enemies who can now board your ship and also this wouldn’t be a sudden surprise unless you are approaching an island. Also have a trigger active where if you kill the statue before you kill the mermaids they will just run off. But also have each based on their difficulty. So a sapphire would have 2 trident and a song, emerald would have 1 song and a trident, Ruby would just have a song. Then to help out the rare devs, have a limit on depth or area away from the statue they will be able to go before turning back to the statue, this way they are similar to skeletons and running away but more of a puppy guard technique.
