Idea on grog functionality

  • This might've been suggested before, but it'd be neat if grog had some more functionality. I almost never drink it as the drunk effect is not my favorite, but if you were to say get damage resistance from it, thus taking less HP when hit, I might be more inclined. This would incentivize scalleywags to drink up before a battle, decreasing how well they can actually fight while making them harder to kill.

  • I have seen this suggested before some time ago. It's a really good idea. Beer Armor.

  • Rare is not going to add any kind of benefit like this to the grog, as it may encourage players to drink more IRL.

Yeah you're right, I become a drunk because of sea of thieves! Also lets take out swords and guns too while we're at it, I'm a very violet person! As a pirate, I also learned how to steal in real life! The idea that games inspire us to do wrong has NEVER been proven and was highly debunked over and over again. If a game encourages someone to do something bad, then their was something wrong with them to begin with.

  • @trenix90 Think on it however you will, but ultimately it's not your decision to make; it's theirs. It's the same reason we don't have dolphins or whales in the game - Rare doesn't want to encourage the actual hunting or harming of these animals. It's also why we don't see tobacco or smoking pirates. And so on...

So some animals are more important than others? Sounds immoral. Personally it's better to kill virtual animals than real animals. Take for example fishing. I prefer fishing in games over real life, because in real life, you have a very high chance of hurting and killing a fish. I only fish in real life, if I'm going to eat the fish I catch.

Yes. That's always been true, IRL.

  • They already encourage drinking though...

    Yes, but with consequences.

  • This could be fun if they just added cosmetic effects like in Warcraft where some drinks turn you into fun critters, or set you on fire

Consequence? Throwing up on people and playing music differently is not a consequence to me.

  • They did include a recipe for grog in a promo pack sent to a streamer. So they do promote responsible imbibing.

I think what needs to be added is a cheers to go with the toast. To pirates that toast to each other and are close in proximity could bash their tankards together.

Also the toast should splash some grog around (if you have a full tankard)

  • Equating drinking 'alcohol' with a positive effect would likely require the Rating to be bumped up. The fact that there is grog in the first place is probably pushing it. As has been mentioned, there is a reason that there isn't smoking/swearing etc.

Whether it does or does not actually encourage or increase real-life drinking is moot, it is what the ratings board says is allowed.

  • @triheadedmonkey
At least in the US, one of the reasons it's t is the alcohol

  • @triheadedmonkey Requiring a rating bump is speculation at best. There are many many examples of games with various alcohol effects that are T rated. World of Warcraft, as someone mentioned before, is a good example.

  • Still tho that would be pretty funny to see "He cant fight well but he sure is hard to kill dangit!" Lol

It'd be ace for boarding. Get below deck, get drunk on the enemies grog, and distract them from repairing lol.
