Load Times after being killed..

  • So I have a video of this but can't figure out how to share it here but the loading time to get back to your ship after leaving the Ferry of the Damned are atrocious. I usually play solo and the video I have is when a smelly ship spawned on me after I was just finished with a Mercenary Voyage and on my way back to an outpost. The video I have is 45 seconds long and there was at least another 20 seconds of it that I wasn't able to capture. You could hear my ship getting pummeled with cannon balls while I sat there helplessly waiting to get spawned back to my ship. Just before I spawned in I heard the dreaded sound that indicated my ship was done. Lost all my loot obviously and was just frustrated because if I didnt have to wait over a full MINUTE to get back to the game I may have been able to do something about it. That being said, I love this game and will continue to play and talk it up to all of my friends because you've created a world I love being a part of. But playing solo is already difficult enough.. please dont make dying once be a complete death sentence no matter what

  • @jza16 I feel your pain.

Right now, death =black screen then ferry of the damned then black screen, then spawn. In other words...

Death = Load, Wait, Load, Spawn.

Imagine a system where instead of a temporary holding zone such as the ferry of the damned, the game automatically loaded the player back onto the boat after death, but the player was a ghost for 15 seconds (or however long the ferry is meant to hold the player) and during this “ghost mode”, the player can’t repair, fire cannons, steer, access barrels etc. After 15 seconds, the player “re-mortalize” and resumes play as normal. In other words...

    Death = Ghost Mode, Re-mortalize.

Although the game would still have to load the player from the location of death to the ship, this would still equal one less load screen. The system I mentioned above would also help prevent spawn killing.

  • I never had an issue like that. This could have to do with your internet or computer.

It literally has nothing to do with internet speed or computers. The system is slow and flawed for how quick you need to be back in the fight. The moment you die soloing against a skelly ship it is literally game over, you are done for.

The load is not as long as others have stated, unless they have a poor connection and a old computer. Also the few seconds you wait until you respawn is intended as a penalty for dying. Honestly, this is a very weak penalty when compared to most other games out there and people are still complaining. The game isn't designed for solo play, nor is there peaceful mode where you can just sail and do whatever you want without any challenges.

The load times are inconsistent. I'm running an AMD FX 8320 with 16 gb of RAM and an SSD. It's not top of the line but it's better specs than an Xbox One X. I still have had one attack from a Meg throw me off my boat and when I mermaided back the black screen cause me to sink. The mermaid load screen can be almost instant or it can be 40+ seconds. There's no rhyme or reason it's just longer sometimes and it can mean so much when you're solo.

  • @silentrich69
It has everything to do with internet and hardware, as an example i've played on both Xbox and PC and loading times are twice as long on Xbox in comparison to a pc.
Maybe if you run an One X this might be more equal but yeah the loading time is absolutely hardware related.

Edit: there are ofcourse other temporary factors in play but it's very much depending on hardware and internet connection.

  • " smelly ship" ...That's a good name , i always found that a Skelly ship is just a floating bunch of stinkers...hihihihihihiiii

  • @m1sterpunch well I really dont think it's my internet as I have 30mb/sec connection at all times. I do have an original Xbox One which could factor in a bit. But this only happens when my ship is being attacked. If I die anywhere else after leaving the Ferry of the Damned I load in immediately. Last night I was playing solo again and doing OoS missions and got a horrible draw on a group of skellys that all had guns so I died quite a few times killing them off. Everytime I died I spawned back almost immediately... but when my ship is being attacked is the only time I get the long load times

I'm telling you as a PC player with a decent setup and 100mbs wired connection it's not just hardware or internet. I've sank due to abnormally long respawns. It sounds like it has to do with activity around where you're spawning in more than anything. So if you have a lot of players or AI around where you're spawning (IE when you need speed the most) in you can pretty much guarantee a long loading screen.

  • @m1sterpunch in agreement with both here.
Hardware is a factor. Stronger the better.
Xbox one - add a SSD and loading times are faster, rendering is generally better but doesn’t fix all issues.
The load screen is Definitely a problem for any platform when there’s action around. It can be longer then usual or indefinitely. I believe it’s a difficult one to fix but they are actively working on it as per the updates and patch notes suggest.
Tip for black screen - have a crew member turn the helm or raise and drop a sail, I’ve pulled many crew mates out this way. Or just don’t die lol
