Captain's Chests

  • I don't read a majority of these feedback + suggestions posted, so apologies if I copy paste.

So, Captian's Chests don't give much gold, and my thought was to bump up the price range slightly. Even as a Pirate Legend, I get Seafarer's and Marauder's Chests wayyy to often, and when we're grinding for gold to get our legend cosmetics, getting a Captain's chest is all too... disappointing.

That being said, my idea would be to have different colored gems embedded in the chests. Similar to mermaid gems; the different colors would represent the price tier of each chest.

    An example:

Sapphire: Lowest Price ~ 900-1100 Gold
    Emerald: Mid-Range Price ~ 1100-1300 Gold
Ruby: Could be changed to the highest price ~ 1300-1500 Gold

The "downside" is, that we would have to change the price range of the Ashen Captain's Chest to (from my example) 2600 - 3000 Gold. Maybe even put those same colors in the Devil's Roar, and keep that area active.

Obviously, this is just an example and needs some professional Dev. work, and the colors could be other stones we haven't seen in the game, ie: Diamond, Amethyst, etc...

I'm aware we have the different Arena chests coming, but I'm not sure if they're exclusive for Arena.

I truly believe it would bring more excitement to digging up one of these more rare chests, and that "BOOM! Monaaayy" feeling that we get from turning it in. Might even promote more PvP and chest pirate thievery!

Anyway, let me know what you think.
    Just typing my thoughts.

  • @dragons4miles I touched slighty in that under the Gold hoarders section in my post a while back.

  • @dragons4miles It's actually not a bad idea, it would implement that moment of excitement when you land a rare colored chest. I unfortunately don't think this would ever be implemented into the game because of the work that would need to go into it. This essentially would be like adding 3 new chest into the games while changing the way the old captains chest works now. Then people might get upset that castaway, marauders and etc don't have the same thing.

My only recommendation when looking for gold is to go pick up ashen Athenas voyages and just grind the order of souls (Guaranteed 4 skulls that are each over 1,000 gold) at every island you go to or you can do the treasure hunt's in them. Very quick way of getting gold or you can just complete forts and do it that way.

  • @dragons4miles that is a cool idea I definitely like it. They need to fix the price of chests in general honestly.

I did a regular athenas quest and turned in chest and got just a little over 6000 gold from it when those things usually give a good 10,000 gold. Legitly the weakest amount out of a chest of legends that I have ever seen.

  • @xix-zeno-xix what game did you play? A regular athena chest was NEVER that much worthit...in the gold&glory weekend it was

Regular price is around 6000, and that is great! The price was, until november I guess, about 3500+/-

  • @schwammlgott dang really? Well I guess I'm wrong then, but there was a few times I turned one in with some crews in the past that hit like a little over 9k as soon as they turned it in but I thought THAT was normal lol ah man, in so confused now.

Once a week ago too, I remember now, that was an awesome reward, it helped me get the athenas hull finally.

  • @xix-zeno-xix maybe it was a Devils Roar athena? Don't know what you get from them, I'm rarely in DR...

  • @schwammlgott same I dont know I dont think I've completed one there yet, but i will add for mother amount of times I've turned thise chests in the lowest I've seen before was at least 7.5k.

For some reason and idk why, but that was it and above, maybe I was just lucky idk, but I feel like all the chests should definitely get a more like accurate scale and tier group distinction between each skill we can tell how much they might be worth.

  • @xix-zeno-xix it's been about two months ago I did my last athena voyage...did they higher the value again? When they highered it in december the lowest price i got was 5800 and the highest 6200

  • @dragons4miles the reason chests might feel underwhelming is due to the balancing involved.

On a x Mark's the spot maps the amount of chests one can get is significantly more than the maximum amount of skulls from an OOS. Now these voyages were designed to be similar in total gold earned at the same levels. As the overall price of the treasure is similar, but the amounts you find isn't the chests were given a slightly lower price to compensate for the difference in amount of treasure found.

The chest prices are fine and the gold already flows in pretty good if you want it. Also, the gold hoarders are cheap, as they know they are the only ones with the keys and they love to hoard the gold they don't like paying for the treasure.

  • @schwammlgott totes not sure mate they could have changed it again since then I got no clue

  • @xix-zeno-xix made one today, was 5900...so still same I guess

  • @schwammlgott well there you have it I guess I've just been luck lately besides the most recent one.

  • With the reaper runs at the moment, I'm glad that captain's chests don't get you much gold. You get around 20 chests, most of them captain and a few sorrow ones occationally. I already don't care about loot much, because I know gold is easy to come by (I have around 20,000 now and already not caring :P ), especially in the Devil's Roar.

That said, one ashen seafarer's chest got me as much as a regular captain's chest. That's a bit strange.
