Microsoft Windows 10 Specific issue (Full screen behaves like Windowed mode)

  • Because Sea of Thieves plays like Microsoft store apps, it runs in a sort of fake full screen mode. If you press TAB or Esc and especially when checking delivery notes during a merchant mission (which I do frequently), the freely wandering cursor can exit the confines of the game and causes the window menu to drop down from the top. I've only once accidentally closed the game off by doing this and have nearly done it a few times since. Likewise, if you move the mouse cursor to the bottom of the game window (again the game is in full screen mode and it only happens in cursor control scenarios) it makes the task bar pop up. Is there any way around this or is it just inherent to Microsoft Store games and has to stay? I thought full screen was supposed to mean full screen?

While I'm here. Please give us 3 flags: Mystic, Gold Hoarder and Merchant / Cargo runner. I want to show my love for Merchant missions and doing cargo runs.

  • @khaifx First I totally agree on the flags.

Second, yes I experienced that problem aswell. Never had closed my game by accident, but i minimalized my game multiple times during a fight which ended me dying. I don't think there is a solution for it, then again I never bothered to look for a solution. So I'm gonna sit and wait here and hope there maybe will come a solution.

It sort of makes me feel that Microsoft think of Sea of Thieves as some kind of joke on PC. The program runs in a window like a typical free junk app does, not fully enclosed in a proper full screen mode. There's also an issue with there being a a fairly lengthy delay (relatively speaking) when pressing Esc and exiting menus. For example, if you read the delivery notes on objects, pressing Esc and moving you mouse to move your character results in a sort of delay while the menu fades and before you regain control. This causes the cursor to move independently before you regain said control and depending on where you are aiming the look of your character (turning or looking up) it can end up at the bottom or one of the top corners which is where a dangerous or infuriating incident can occur.

I implore everyone go play a mission now, perhaps a merchant cargo run. When you do, check your delivery notes. Hell you don't even have to do that. Go into a barrel or press tab and your cursor has free reign to bring up the window menu for the entire program; your typical -, Square and X icons. This is just bad design. Yes it doesn't happen often, hardly at all, but it shouldn't be there. Sea of Thieves is not Candy Crush Saga. I don't expect the game cursor, when put to the edges or corners to bring up the option to close the game outright.
