Possibility to add servers in the Asia region?

  • Greetings from the land of the rising sun,

I would like to request additional servers in the Asia region.

As someone playing from Japan on a daily basis, I happened to notice that every time I play Sea of Thieves I have a ping between 160 and 320ms (and with every time, I literally mean EVERY TIME) which makes me believe it keeps connecting me to NA servers as I always run into American pirates.

Here comes the point where I start to assume things, but please hear me out. Having development knowledge with Microsoft Azure (and I assume Rare uses Microsoft Azure to host). I think Rare should be able to open servers for people playing in the Asia region.
As Sea of Thieves starts to involve more PVP content with the introduction of Reaper voyages and also the arena in the near future. I find myself struggling a lot with the latency when I'm up against NA players, which puts me in an unfair disadvantage. 2 To 4 consecutive pistol/shotgun shots show hit indicators on screen, but damage doesn't sync properly because enemy player refuses to die without the need of bananas. I get called out names for being bad, for missing my shots or swings and frankly I'm getting very tired of that.

I'm using the fastest Ethernet connection in Japan which offers 1Gbps and usually have 9ms on Japanese servers in games such as Overwatch or Battlefield 5. Could you please consider scaling up servers also in the Asia region. Thank you in advanced.

    Yours sincerely,

    A concerned sushi roll.

  • This would be so nice, I have the same problem. Other games with local (Tokyo) servers have ping under 10ms, SoT has pings only over 150ms. It would also be nice to spend more time playing against people in the region since more of us are awake at the same time while people in North America are at work or are sleeping.

  • It's a good idea, yes. Especially if Rare are making use of Azure servers. Although I'm in Australia so we have the worst connection to the rest of the world, so some HK/SK/Japan servers could definitely help :)

  • In the words of Marko Ramius.
    Give the man Ping please

Its a sad thing my friend, i sometimes play in Thailand and i don't even attempt PvP, just Cannons and Sailing

  • one thing you can do to minimise your ping is start your game with a closed crew, then open the crew once you load in.
from australia, open crew seems to connect me to NA servers (250+ms). starting as a closed crew sends me to a server with 35ms ping. give it a go!

  • @tehstepford
Thanks mate for sharing your experience with us.

I mostly start a session with "Closed Crew" as you suggested. And yes, this does result in having the "best" minimum ping. However that ping is around 160ms for me. When I join "Open Crew" the ping is almost double the regular ping.

You're lucky to have a ping below 100ms, I seriously envy you.

  • Bump,

Recently latency keeps spiking up to 300-400ms during sessions.
Laggy waves causing ships to rock uncontrollable during ship combat, seriously aggravating and motion sickness inducing.

  • Games been out for nearly two years and still no servers in Asia, lol

necro'd so we wouldnt need to make a new thread on this topic

Sadly that's against the forum rules. Just be careful about that in the future. It's actually a better idea to make that new thread, because that's what's recommended to do instead of reviving threads that are older than a month.
@Makiguso-Taro same advice to you. You're allowed to make a new thread on this topic if they haven't done anything about servers for your region. Best of luck!
@Deckhands we need a lock on this, gracias.

  • Please be come true i am from Indonesia and maybe Indonesia has the lowest internet on SEA.so please dev

  • @noistic Please refrain from posting in old threads, as it is against the community guidelines.
