i think this is very excessive, it's way to much just lower it down please...
Basically it takes about 5-7 minute to kill one, i think 5x500 is a lot ot time . Now this is my opinion, what do you guys think about it ? ( i might just be a big lazy boy)
Athena's fortune commendations, 500 skeleton ship ????????

I understand. I kind of like the idea that it will take a while. Perhaps a long while. Think of it this way; when you hit it, it will be legendary.
@gatorwocky in fact it will, but it's not like i will unlock 5to7 skin it will just unlock a pair a canons.... I see your point but it's still a game where a lot a casual players are here for "fun" and i think those 500 are not only kick out casual players but commited players.
@gatorwocky For comparison the wheel 'only' takes 30 voyages which is no really that long to do.
Canons and the wheel might not be comparable but still ...Again, everything is spoon fed now. To have one achievement that is this difficult isn't an issue with me. Then again, I'm not one to flaunt cosmetics. I play because I enjoy the game, not because I need to show others what I've done. Regardless of the cosmetic reward, it still says you did it.
Cheers, mates! And good luck getting that 500th ship.
To be a "Legend of the Sea of Thieves" one must accomplish a legendary task. 500 is enough to be impressive, but not so little that it's just neat. One emergent or roaming ship at a time will take forever. The ship battle is almost required to have any real progress towards this commendation. I started farming the ship battle on a solo sloop and now I'm up to 277. Each battle can earn you around 5 to 7 ships.
I realize even a single ship can be too much for a solo slooper. I still watch my ship go down from skeleton ships all the time. With the right strategy and a calm demeanor you can clear an entire ship battle, and take off with the captains loot. Even if it takes two or three new sloops before you finish.
As long as you can make it to the battle and start it, you have unlimited time to finish it. Every time a ship spawns, make sure you hit it with a cannonball. If you do, it guarantees you get credit for it. I realize it seems weird that I emphasize hitting it with one cannonball but with my strategy, that's usually the only cannonball I hit it with. Even if it's taken down by another ship, the volcano, or even sinking from ramming into any rocks or other skeleton ships, you will get credit for sinking it. As long as you leave the captain ship for last, you should be able to recover the loot.
I don't stock my ship beyond a rowboat. I ram the other ships and bucket water from mine to theirs. I need minimal cannonballs, minimal bananas, and if all goes well, no planks. If my ship sinks, I use the rowboat to finish bucketing water on the ships remaining. In this instance I may even collect the loot and leave it on the rowboat. Once I die or finish the ships on that wave, I'll mermaid to a new sloop, find a new rowboat and go back to spawn the next wave. When I sink the captain ship, I abandon my holey ship and take my rowboat, use it to collect the loot and take it back. The kraken, meg, and other skeleton ships will ignore you on a rowboat. It's not easy. You will sink often, and it is time consuming, but it can be done.
Another thing to note, any ship in an alliance with you will earn you progress when they sink ships. You could be on the other side of the world fighting skellys in a cave and you get credit for one you didn't even know about.

interesting thanks !

( i might just be a big lazy boy)I wish people would stop complaining and having them nerf commendations. This game is meant to achieve them over time not goal to hit max on them then quit because no content. As someone who had 1k of alot of things before they nerfed it down do like 360 and 500 . I am quite dissapointed by this it feels like there is nothing to do or work towards anymore max lvl max commendations all we do now is two or three ships sailing around doing forts looking for shrouded. I liked that it was 1k miles sailed for the anchor . I'm for bring back the old numbers, back when a hull for the boat cost 149k, those were the days
You are doing it wrong if it takes you that long to do it. Need at least two people and some kegs. Ram into the Ghost Ship and have one person board with the keg. The person on your ship sails away and repairs. The person on the Ghost Ship takes the keg and lights the keg and drops it by the Barrel with the Bananas. Then you run downstairs to the jail cell and defend the hole in the wall until the ship sinks. Should have the ship sunk in less then a minute without firing a single cannon. You can try lighting the keg on the bottom deck to make more holes. But then you risk getting shot or stuck on the skeletons when the keg explodes. If you have more players you can double keg the ship and sink it in 20 seconds.
In my opinion, it only goes with the MATH.
For the commendation in Athena you need to sell a 100 of each Stronghold treasures.
So we have to complete or steal the treasures of at least 100 FORT EVENT.For the ships, if we go with the MATH we got a 100 SHIP EVENT multiplied by the minimum number of ships appearing in thoses events and it's at least 5. So we get 500 ship to sink in total.
Plus we got the roaming Skeleton galleon and the ones appearing randomly to attack our vessel. So in my opinion, it is FAIR to put it at 500 ship.
Get your game on and see you guys on the seas!
