Bring all limited time only items into the game... make them earnable.

  • @hashashin777 If you actually play the game you will see that when you hop into the game that there is not only a pop up, that you even need to hit enter or A on, that shows you what the event is that is going on but even on an SSD you can see the load screen tell you what cosmetic is for the event that is going on at the time.

In all honesty if you are not willing to take a few min to check out a dev update video or check the news section or even check the sub dedicated to the game (I mean hell we go one step further than that for those that are on the discord servers.. we have a sot-announcements channel dedicated to updates about the game that you can check out even on your phone when not home), then I have zero sympathy when it comes to those that are out of the loop when many options are out there for them to choose from when it comes to consuming the information about the game they are playing.

@omnipotence13 Ive been with SoT since launch I just refuse to support exclusive cosmetics when the game's progression is strictly cosmetic. If you're the type of person that needs to feel special for playing the game when others didn't to have a reason to keep playing you should not be playing videogames at all. When ever someone curious notices SoT and asks me if its its any fun i chuckle and tell the from the day it launched you would already be buying less of a game then people that preordered. Rare has taken it to the point where items that are forever obtainable feel completely worthless and any satisfaction that i might have got with each new unlock is just gone. If you honestly think this is how games rewards should work in a premium game then you are what i consider the biggest threat to the game industry. You're exactly the type of customer that EA wishes they could clone. SoT is the first game i bought that isn't 100% pvp focused to offer exclusives to this extent. I didn't play Destiny, I dont play Fortnight, Overwatch, etc. Myself and many others come frome games that offer exactly the same content as they did at launch with no barriers just because im playing in the future. Thisbwhole game is a learning experience for Rare and I really hope they realize that this is one of the many reasons their game wasn't successful.

You've said at least three times you quit because of exclusive cosmetics, so however much you say you have been here since launch, frankly I don't believe you, maybe you played at launch but not since launch. EA customers? Yeah because exclusive items for events in game are the same as microtransactions and paytowins. I'm very intrigued to know what games you play as almost every single game has a deluxe collectors or ultimate edition offering more for paying more, whereas SoT only offer exclusive stuff that anyone can get mostly for free (controller and hd skins excluded). If you refuse to support the game you enjoy because they offer exclusives to others that you couldn't get, then you're the threat to the industry, I mean look at you, still quit the game, still trolling the forums...how do you pronounce toxic again?

If you feel the cosmetics are worthless that's on you buddy, I played since launch and have almost all the exclusives, I literally dress in shop brought items and skins, the only exclusives I rock is day 1 patch and launch crew rifle. Less of the game than pre ordered? Because the pre order came with a set of clothes??? I honestly don't know what straws you're grasping at but get a grip dude.

"If you're the type who needs to feel special" bla bla "cosmetics feel utterly worthless" make your mind up, either you want your cosmetics to feel like they have worth or you dont. I think you're just greedy and jealous and you should stick to playing other games

  • I think keep them exclusive but lengthen the time their available... Or at least give the campaign a second run through a month later or something.

  • @kiethblacklion said in Bring all limited time only items into the game... make them earnable.:

There are a lot of games that use time limited items as a way to drive players. Destiny 2 is a great example of that. The big difference is though, items in other games often affect game play. Unlocking and earning weapons, or gear that give you an edge in the game. With SoT, all items are cosmetic and don't affect anything. Their value is only what we as players give to those items. Some see those items as status symbols. Others see them as nothing more than a marketing tool and not worth the time.

Some players such as @Donklol put a lot a time and effort into this game, taking pride in what they have accomplished and put great value on what they have worked to earn. And so it is understandable why they wouldn't want others to essential take a short cut to get what they have.

On the other hand, not everyone has the same opportunities to earn these items when they are available. New players won't have a clue about some of these items and when they do find out would want to take the time to earn them. Some people may have a limited amount of time to play games. Whatever the reason may be, we shouldn't simply cast them aside with a "everyone has the chance to earn them during the event period" catch all argument.

I would like to see some of the events be "re-released"; such as an anniversary event suggested earlier in this post. But make the re-released items slightly different than the originals. I worked my backside off trying to get the weapon set for Devil's Roar. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to unlock them before the event ended (but I did manage to unlock the clothing). I'd like another chance to earn that set again, albeit with a different color scheme or something so that it doesn't take away from the originals.

There is a solution, somewhere, but it just takes a bit of compromise from both sides to find it.

I never got any of the Roars cosmetics, I think they are sick and I love seeing people rocking it and I am not at all gutted that I don't have them, I wish I did but I wasn't there when they were released, I didn't participate and frankly I don't think I deserve them, and if they were openly available for everyone to get I probably wouldn't want them anymore because it takes the value away from them

  • @hashashin777 said in Bring all limited time only items into the game... make them earnable.:

@kraken-slap And what about those that dont like social media and do their best to stay away from it. And the exclusive regional cosmetics are unfair as well. According to their own Pirate Code, the crew comes first.. And we, the gamers, are indeed all part of this crew. So cutting different gamers out of “regional cosmetics” is hypocritical to their own code.

But, I digress, every other game has a start up screen with “ANNOUNCEMENTS” and upcomming stuff. They only have “Hey, there are new mercenary voyages.”

So when you release a game with literally no content, who wants to stick around and follow that. I advocated to my friends about this game being awesome and the release let me down and didnt back up my claims. And it sure as hell was not as “sandbox” as it is now.

Now people are missing out cause there wasnt much keeping the interest, other than the PC pioneers who had a jump on everybody else and could simply clear any threat in under 60 seconds.

Plus, when the matchmaking constantly puts you in crews sitting at an outpost, 1 or 2 man galleons, kids doing nothing, it really drives motivation down. This 2x XP weekend really helped drive the interest back up and NOW people have learned about the past events. Put the event announcements in a game start up menu like everybody else. I wanna know what my game has coming and my game developers should tell me directly. Not a third party and theres no excuse for that when the rest of the industry does direct contact through game.

Its time to right some wrongs. If the events come back year after year, then we need to be told that before we lose more people.

I think regional stuff does indeed suck, it would suck less if each region had their own stuff but that's not the case. I agree that on the SoT main menu it should tell you "Bla event from bla to bla, bla bla to unlock this fancy new bla get it now" although it's in loading screens and you have a pop up in game, that and it's not super hard to just talk to Duke each time you log on :P

  • @kasch-s-kunning said in Bring all limited time only items into the game... make them earnable.:

The most amount of players should be okay with reintroducing the opportunity to earn LE cosmetics if the commendations requirements were turned up to 11. Maybe 100% to 1000% harder should do it. If you really want something, spending a couple of weeks to a month on it should be fair. People who were available at the time of the initial event could enjoy the event's ambient "festivities" in regard to NPC dialogue, decorations, and the never ending availability of players focusing on the commendations. Getting crews all on the same page for off-season event commendations is already extremely tough.

Losing new players due to finding out that they lost a chance to earn something before ever finding the game is way worse than full time players not feeling special enough. This game is only about cosmetics. Halve (or more) the rewards a new player can earn and they have zero reason to stay.

This is coming from someone who completed every event. Also, Rare, please give us the con items that are out of the 3 month exclusivity deal. We've been waiting. $50+ for scalped items or hundreds for attending a con is not that great for players (nor you).

Id be happy with variants to the LE stuff but not the actual LE stuff, that's just my opinion though, my partner suggested perhaps putting only a few of them (obviously minus pre order, launch crew, day 1, and at the very least meg head) in the shops but with super inflated prices, like hundreds of thousands or even millions. I would pay 500k per piece of Roar weapons but I still think that with how awesome they look that's still cheap, we need a cash sink anyway, sure level 20s won't get it immediately but money piles up, I have mates that own everything in game and sit on 10milli plus....

And honestly, if people are leaving the game JUST because Jack has a hat that Jill can't get on a cosmetics based game where there is no advantage at all, then leave because the game doesn't need any more toxicity than what's already apparent. Keeping your loyal players are more important than trying to keep one or two people that can't get what they want, that's definitely not the direction to go, loyal AF SoT fans have already up and left because of lack of content, cross play and reverting their achievements to nothing, without giving eveyone exclusive stuff that they weren't even around for at the time......

For instance, I was at 460 Skull Forts out of 500, went on a few month break, come back and Rare has wiped out EVERYTHING I worked for (and others) because people complained that they couldn't do it, do you know how hurtful it is that you can sink thousands of hours into a game for your progress to be washed away on PURPOSE to just make a few salty PVERs happy....it's disgusting. I have personally lost all my commendation progresses, lost all my value of being a PL in less than 2 months at launch without cheesing a single thing and now people are trying to rob me or it feels like people are trying to rob me of the only things I have left with any value at all to them.....what's even more of a joke is the commendations don't even say 600/120 Forts (not an exact figure but really it's probably more) etc so I can't even sit back and feel pride that I have It on screen that I worked hard, nope zero zilch nada, if you're gunna wipe people's progress at least keep the initial figure and show overkill stats lol

    @BlackElite-ID16

I am not a perfect EA customer because I won’t spend endless amounts on virtual “things”. I will spend a little here because it’s a game I preordered for 39.99 CAD and have played constantly for over a year. I feel I have gotten my money’s worth 10 fold and feel it’s fair to send a little more here and there towards the game.

The limited Edition cosmetics are almost worse here then the EA cash model for they cost me something much more valuable, time. I enjoy (almost) every moment in this game, so it’s not time wasted. But that being said, I spent time here during inconvenient evenings to make sure I grabbed these cosmetics, so no letting people sit on thrones over months of gameplay to get a bone crusher jacket after telling the player base that they were limited is not acceptable

Time is money my friend, and those exclusives that you put time into, that's money being taken out your pocket and given to other people if they start handing out exclusives you worked for like they did with commendations and PL

  • @truthfullist56 I think a Variant system would be best honestly. Say the forsaken sword glows red because it was made out of the hot crystals from the devils roar. Maybe they add a cooled off version that glows blue? This way you know how long someone has been playing by looking at them but new players get something similar. Though the real issue is we need a huge influx of regular items that are forever in the game and locked behind things such as special cosmetic chests or commendations. Time limited things wouldn't sting so bad if they weren't the majority of whats been added.

Edit - This is coming from a pre day 1 player that owns every time limited item.

@hashashin777 If you do not like social media then unlucky.. why not just check the SEA OF THIEVES website every so often or check duke's store, with every new update it is obvious enough to anyone who plays the game regularly.

Sea of thieves has never been a literal sandbox, it is an open world game where you can make your own adventures. People miss out because they dont pay enough attention to updates and then moan when the time has run out.

If you are worried about bad matchmaking, use the "looking for group" feature on Xbox. If you are on PC there are many many ways to find decent crews. If you want to know what the game has coming then join the insider programme.. it is there for a reason and the developers do tell you directly. If you do not have the time to play the insider builds then like I said earlier.. check the website, if you like the game that much to care about the updates then checking the website should not be a great pain to you.

Youre totally missing the point, man. THERE SHOULD BE NO THIRD PARTY WAY TO FIND THESE OUT! If I log into the game after a while of not playing, I should see something of an announcement when I OPEN the game. The devs should tell us ON THE MAIN MENU OF THE GAME! No middle man. No facebook. No website.

If I want to see whats new with Elder Scrolls Online, I log into Elder Scrolls Online and read the pop up when you open the game that says “PATCH NOTES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS”. I don’t go to Facebook. I don’t go to the website. I log into the game.

And theres no “unlucky” when people are intentionally cut out because of an area they live, and get better weapons cosmetically than the base game? Thats rubbish. And especially when the give away is under the flap so people just snap a pic of the code and move on. Had I known thats what give away meant.... But thats rubbish. Thats stealing. I paid for the code and someone stole it. Thats not unlucky. And youre over here acting like your better than everybody else cause you got “good luck”? Get bent dude.

And I do use the looking for group. Clearly you dont use it cause youd see my name looking for a group, wouldnt you? And if you did use it you would know there are very little responses in general, much less people delivering what you are asking for (not 12 years old, know what Port and Starboard mean, do you know what those mean without google?).

As for the sandbox remark. Sandbox means open world. Minecraft is a sandbox open world game is it not? Right. Making your own adventures, right? Sandbox. Sea of Thieves was marketed and is still referred to as a sandbox, which means open world.

Just make your own LFG and be picky, if I see just some random post with random tags I won't bite, but adult only mic required ship type along with what they want and expect whilst being friendly I'll click that right away, I feel like the better players are more likely to join you if you make the post look like you're serious. Also you don't need starboard etc that's just madness, you can work very efficiently just saying left right west north, as long as you communicate to your crew that when you give left right directions it's based off the left of the ship etc, I have never once struggled to shout out directions despite actually not knowing part and starboard etc etc

Do you remember all the talk that sea of thieves lacks content and people who encourage others not to buy the game yet. Why would those who were waiting to play the game be given the same exklusive items as us who have been true to the game from the beginning. It makes no sense!

    *Bends the knee

    Marry me sir 😂

That's an epic variant idea :) it would be cool if they just hired a team for a few weeks to just bang out 10 recolors for every clothing item weapon and ship skin, same items just different colour. I think the main issue here is people with the exclusives look quite a bit cooler than the average pirate who all seem to wear the same outfits, I believe adding more variants (at least 10 of each) would give people enough ways to stand out without kicking off about exclusives as atm exclusives are the only ways to stand out. I mean for ships they could have a red and black normal hull for 100k, and add the exact same hull but metalicy (kinda like the kraken) for 500k, that way there's a money sink, encourages people to play and widens the gap between seeing a pirate rock the same outfits back to back

10 colour variants of each item, 10 cooler variants of those items with a glow or shine some locked behind commendations and some you can just buy and keep popping out exclusives that are actually exclusives

  • @lady-aijou What's your opinion on this topic 'me Lady' :P and why

  • @donklol Toxicity is whatever the accuser doesn't agree with.

Dyes should already be in the game (non-hair).

As for being true to the game, my suggestion already answered that. Everything would remain rare because it'd be extremely hard to earn. Not everyone subscribes to gaming news. Some people are recruited by friends or family.

Elitism is such a disgusting "TOXIC" human trait.

Hair dyes maybe or on the insider program, personally dyes shouldn't be a thing, we all have too much gold, let us spend it, and collect cosmetics
That isn't the definition of toxicity. If I said a car was pink and you said that car isn't pink it's violet, does that make anyone toxic? No. Nice clutch though :)

  • I think this particular thread has ran its course and people are now saying what I have been saying from the very first reply I made and have been saying for months on this topic in not only the forums but in the sub for this game.

  • @starquest variants could work too.
I'm a day one player but I took a break after they released the fleets. I missed a lot (most importantly the forsaken shores stuff) and would be more than happy to work harder for it.

  • I'm not trying to say that they should just give the items for free I want them to add the events into the game so we have more things to do and to still be able to earn the cosmetics!

  • at least make a loop so events repeat themselves... very annoying that i cannot get these items.
