Let your flag fly!

    As it stands, it has been hinted that we will be able to customize not only our character but also our ship and even our flag. With that in mind, let's see what you the community has in mind for your flags!

    There are a few online flag creators you can use or for those daring enough, cast off and sail your favorite graphics editor into the storm. Even if it's just a rough sketch, made using ink and a feather that came from your pet parrot, it'll be welcome here.

    So, in your reply, please:

    1.) Post a picture of your flag, and
    2.) Explain why you designed it that way / added certain items.

    Disclaimer: If anything posted goes against the Forum Guidelines, it will be deleted. There's no grey area here, lads and lasses...

    Here's the flag I made...

    Flag

    • Tattered Flag - To show the battles the ship has been through
    • Swords - It's a pirate flag, right?
    • Four-leaf clover - My last name is of Irish decent and for luck
    • Cardinal Rose - So I never lose my way no matter how much grog or rum I've had.

    There are some pretty good free flag creators online but, here's some (free) creation tools to get you started.

    found a lil link that flaps it in the wind for ye. you can use links or an image file from your computer. it doesn't allow you to share the animation. i had to use gyazo gif capture.

    i havent had any luck thinking of a personal design yet but here's one from the past. ;')

    i would have to say that this would be my flag, regardless. i created this for the potco mast design contest. sadly i lost, but the sketching is still me. it's in inspired by the first frigate i was able to buy: The Sea Enchantress

    Here's what my flag would be. Skull with beanie/sailor's cap. Beard because beards are awesome and real men/sailors have beards. A trident to symbolize both fighting and seamanship. A shovel to symbolize the crew's treasure hunting motives. And just some added art details to tie it all together. alt text

    Ok so..following on from that totally awesome piece of artwork above @JKodis ....

    Here's my idea - broke with tradition because..

    Blue: In heraldry represents Truth and Loyalty (to my crew)
    Zig Zag line: represents water/ocean
    Wheel: Successful exploration and following your own path
    Crossed Swords: Ready to fight
    Skull: SoT and pirates...

    Nice personal flag! Having a flag / design with some history behind it made it even more special to see it catching some wind. (Now I'm gonna have to figure out how to get my flag waving in a breeze.. LOL!) Also, might have to use the Duck flag for something eventually.

    @KattTruewalker I'm pretty sure you could use copyrighted material for this. As long as your not selling Tshirts or flags for that matter I think you'll be fine. Now guidelines maybe against it but there shouldn't be any legal repercussion as long as there isn't any profits made of the creation. Now I know this is true in USA not sure for other countries!

    @KattTruewalker That wasn't the issue, it was the transparent background being rendered as white in that app.

    I'm really digging on that compass rose... Any significance to the orange color?

    Thanks. Burnt orange is my favorite color, and with the gradient (pure happenstance with the base image I found, it was crimson though) it sort of looks like my flag is on fire or made of embers (bonus!). The compass rose was a combination of two different ones I found, a Celtic and a woodcut version.

    Just looked up "Celtic Compass rose" and some of the results are pretty cool. Sometimes I forget how beautiful a simple design can be.

    These are two designs I also like, but thought that burning torch version was a nice touch (and also why I added the Celtic ring to it for added flair).

    it's pretty common in you're a student (alum or current) of the University of Texas.

    @CaptnJaq Heck no.....

    More the color of fall, rust, cinnamon even....a darker hue as opposed to the brighter version. Think the color of an ember as it transitions to ash and charcoal...

    @BradleyEdwardP No. I don't not chose my color preferences based on sports team, nor do I follow any kind of college sports for that matter. My previous post on the color as it relates to nature is more why I like.

    This isn't my flag but one my friend made, he hopes to use it in SoT if he can. The design is very similar to the US flag because his pirate philosophy is very similar to American values. Those being personal freedom and the ability for a person to make themselves.
