Solo game isn't fun anymore, and it's killing the game for me.

  • I used to LOVE solo running. Until the more recent updates. First, I understand that this is a multiplayer game and it encourages playing alongside others, but often that's just NOT A REALITY for me. I'm sure I'm not alone. Sometimes, I don't have the patience to deal with other people. Sometimes others actively sabotage voyages. Sometimes I just want to run some small voyages by myself trying to level up or get commendations without dealing with children wanting to go fight people.

I love playing with other people, just not always. That being said, soloing is near IMPOSSIBLE now and it's definitely NOT FUN anymore. It's stressful, disappointing, and frankly 9/10 times a WASTE OF TIME. Between the now more difficult Kraken (why can't I run away anymore??), the Skeleton Ships (I get it, some people can solo them - I sink near instantly), and constant worry of other players out on the seas, I find myself just not wanting to play.

I wish there were an easier option for Solo players - one where I don't need to lose hours of progress trying to get some lantern colors just to have a spawned NPC ruin it. I'm fine with a player carrying the burden of ruining my day - but the in-game NPC's can just f**k off (to put it nicely).

Not being able to comfortably solo anymore when I need to is KILLING THIS GAME for me.

  • They definitely need to work on giving solo players their own sort of balance.

Skelly ships are a bit overpowered in most cases for solo players due to their infinite cursed balls. Many times these aren't a problem, but damned be you if they are grog balls, limp balls (not so bad), or venomballs (survive this and you get a gold star.)

You definitely can still run from the kraken - I always start my kraken fights by pointing to the nearest blue sea and getting wind in the sails. Not to mention how unbearably easy the kraken is on a sloop - solo or not. It takes 10-20 cannonballs to put a tentacle to sleep, and you only need to end two of them to finish the fight. Being grabbed causes a maximum of 4 holes in my experience, these holes come on very slowly, and are always at the back of the boat where water runs in slowly. Being slapped by a tentacle only causes 3 holes (a max of 4 if it's from the rear or the very front,) which is very easily manageable by a solo player, even if you already had 4-5 holes in the back to begin with. Patch up first, then go and steer the ship back towards the blue.

If you ask me the thing that is killing solo play the most is the fact that more than 1 PvE encounter can spawn on you at once, which while often is survivable - will be a death sentence for most players (particularly console players with low sens since their actions will inherently be slower than a high sens player,) and especially in the the devil's roar. Furthermore there are these darn infinite load screens that are a 100% end to your voyage with no hope of recovery since trying to join the game of someone in an infinite black screen will always result in a Beard error.

Every PVE challenge in the game is capable of being done on your own. It requires you to be on point, understanding the mechanics and being prepared.

Read some guides, look for crew mates... stating it is not an option is not true we have the xbox lfg, discord groups and open crews to find others.

The life of a solo captain is supposed to be the biggest challenge and trust me once you mastered the seas there is nothing you cannot defeat.

Embrace the challenges the sea throws at you, learn to combat them and become one of us legends. You will never fear the sight of the kraken, skeleton ship or megalodon again. You can learn to flee them as well, there people that mastered that out there.

  • This game has never been tuned for single players in a sloop.

However with all these post about how hard it is for solo players, Rare will no doubt cave in with a watered down version of Adventure for all of us, or PvE servers.

The sea is a cruel mistress, act accordingly.

  • Solo definitely isn't impossible. It is harder, but it is pretty much the only way to play if you want a challenge in the game these days - everything has been nerfed time and again that the game needs to do something before we all become bored to death. The hardest challenge in the game is completing commendations when it decides not to give you credit for entire play sessions, but personally I would prefer an in-game challenge rather than just having to repeat until the bugs decide to have a day off.

    I solo very successfully.

  • @vin-delanos then you have the biggest luck ever or you had a 30 min session ^^
i also tryied to solo the last days and PvE is so strong, that im also think that its not really possible to solo. PvP is okay but the PvE is not fair for solo players... what are you suppost to do when a ghostship attacks you while you are in a kraken? lol

  • I think their principle that things like the storm or every kraken attack popping holes in ships is flawed when it comes to anything but 4 player galleons... the risk should be that the storm can cast you against rocks because of low visibility and lack of control, with wind directions in the storm changing wildly and the helm spinning as it does and possibly fully deployed sails falling down if that becomes a thing..

The threat of a kraken should be that it will after a certain time of battle just drag the ship down or snap it in half, not a constant repair battle, the threat of holes should be from other ships, and things like the meg and skeleton ships are fine to solo if they got rid of some badly designed cursed cannonballs such as the sleep or grog ones.

He isn't the only one that does fine solo.

I do any PvE solo, no issues if not contested by other pirates. I don't get intimidated by PvE threats, I know whether I can battle or it is better to flee. I know how stocked the ship is and know what I am capable of and what my ship can handle.

I have completed every single PvE encounter at least once on my own, including the DR variants:

    • Skull Forts
    • Skeleton Fleets (the could event)
    • Kraken
    • Megalodon (all but shrouded one, haven't seen her yet)
    • Roaming/Pop-Up Skeleton Ships
    • Athena voyages
    • Gold hoarder voyages
    • Order of Souls voyages
    • Merchant voyages (though I usually go animal catching, not a fan of cargo)

None of these are to difficult to do by yourself, all of this has to do with your knowledge of the seas, a bit of grit (stubbornness) and preparation.

@Vin-Delanos you might want to do a voice over or some editing on that video of yours. 2 Hours of unedited game-play with just the sounds of the seas... is there any moment you engage with the viewer or others? It is too long and not engaging its viewers to really watch from begin to end.

Yeah, it's not a "let's play" or a voice-over gig, and not intended to just snag views. I only made the video to prove people wrong who say solo slooping is impossible. Whoever wants to watch it can watch it, and if one person who is having trouble solo slooping watches it and gets some gameplay tips from it, then I consider it mission accomplished.

  • Exact opposite for me. Solo used to be kinda boring. Now it's always a challenge and full of encounters. Although I do kinda miss having a session where I just chill.

Same here... I look forward to every kraken,Ghost ship and Meg that spawns. I need 500 total ghost ships so keep them coming... get a rowboat cant say it enough......... Maybe they need a chill starting area with low but ample loot. Nothing higher than a marauders chest.

  • @barnacle-blake ugh, about 430 ships to go.

  • Solo is absolute trash now.. I just got taken out by a skeleton sloop because I can't repair, pale water and shoot them at the same time. I used to believe if you pulled up to an island that they would leave you alone but they didn't they just circled. Literally wasted 3 hours of my life to get taken out by heat sinking cannon balls by the skeleton sloop. I'm not sure who was having a bad day at the office at Rare Gaming but you need to figure out how to stop putting terrible things into a great game concept. The a.i. system is ridiculous now. Impossible to play by yourself. June 2020
