I hit Athena 10 3 months after launch.
I did not server hop for forts.
I did not "noah's ark".
I did not force quests to specific islands.
I did not only do certain quests.
And, who the heck cares about any of that cheese when all you have to do to get to PL is turn in gems now?
Besides, we are talking about reaching A10, not reaching PL. I have never "cheesed" anything in this game... Not 1-to-50 with any trading company, and not 1-to-10 with athena's fortune.
@boomtownboss but why is playing within an arbitrary time frame something that should be rewarded? That might not be the right question though, because that's not what they are rewarding you for. They are rewarding you for giving into your impulses and coming to their game when called. If they wanted you to play just because you WANT to play and enjoy playing the game, they would never do these time limited events because they would trust their game to bring you in on it's own merits. They know that some people can't help themselves when they think they are missing out. Those are the people they are exploiting and they don't care if it's unhealthy or addictive. They WANT you to be addicted to their game. They want you to leave work early and/or shirk your responsibilities and play their game instead. They even made an announcement praising a guy who spend something like 12 hours a day playing SoT to get every achievement. That's the problem.
@galactic-geek This thread is simply a case of I want more. Rare gives an inch and people expect a mile. No one is ever happy with what they get.
On the note you mention about cheesing, I am Athena's 10 and never cheesed once. I went online did the missions as they came up and played. I did forts when they appeared, and completed my merchant missions.
You can cheese PL sure, still can, now that forts are always up, and mermaids exist now. Nothing has really changed. Some people want to get to the end quick some don't why does it matter how they got there. They did.
@galactic-geek said in Rewards for A10 within year one:
@novas-soul Wasn't directly accusing you - just most PLs... 😅
Wow. Way to generalize people. Coming from a PL.
People can play how they want. Why does it matter how they got there. Why does style of play make you a better PL and anyone else?

That is not the problem, that is a condition of rewarding someone that did something extraordinary.
I don't care if they gave people that found golden banana's banana sails. I don't care if some guy has done every achievement and got mentioned on Twitter for it. I wouldn't care if they gave that guy, and that guy only the overachiever sails.
People are so whiny now when they don't get something that someone else gets.
Get over yourselves... if you did not earn something the same way someone else did, that is not on anyone. It just happened.
Someone got rewarded for their effort... other people did not get rewarded. Do we really need to complain or cry about it?
If you are so unconcerned with being an Athena 10 that you seriously haven't gotten it one-year after launch... then why are you so concerned that someone that did get it receives some type of award for it?
If they gave a cosmetic set to people that reached Athena 10 within 6 months of launch, do you have any freaking clue how often you would see it on another player? You may NEVER see it, but everyone is crying and whining that it isn't fair that they don't get something.
Six months after launch, the percentage of players who had reached PL was at 0.01%. When they added mermaid gems into the mix in two weeks we jumped from 0.01% to 0.07%. Now we sit at 0.84%... yet people are still complaining that anyone that made it quickly did it by cheesing.
Reward the people that made it to the top quickly. I got news for you, every single person I know that "cheesed" there way there has LONG SINCE quit the game. Not one of them still plays, because they burned out so quickly because of what they were doing.
There are those of us that played the game the way it was intended and got it finished just as quickly.
@imadeyoureadme It's a matter of how the developers intend for you to play - a parrot once told me that it's the journey that matters, and somehow, I doubt that server-hopping, exploiting the MA, dumping loot or cargo, and doing speed-runs was what they intended.
@galactic-geek The Dev's also said this game is about making your own fun, and playing how you want. So if you don't want to sail around to islands for loot and want to do forts why is that a crime?
Nevermind that forthopping doesn't exist any more because they just appear ever 30 minutes. So if I strictly do forts now (Which are worth substantially more) am I playing the game as intended? It is no different than forthopping was originally.
@fluidsc You're delusional if you don't think timed exclusive are exploiting people fear of missing out to get them to log in. The entire idea of time-limited in video games and in most other irl cases are exploiting people psychology for profit. The assets costs nothing to release in a game. Whether 1 person gets it or 100 billion people get it the cost is the game. The only reason they want less people to get something is because they want more people to log in. They actually want as many people as possible to get it, but they reward the people who are addicted to the game and come when they are called to reinforce that behavior like a dog coming when a bell is rung. To be clear I'm not at all against people getting an exclusive loot for reaching PL or A10. I'm against them cutting off the ladder for players that get PL or A10 at a later date on their own time.

I did zero of if the things you listed there, and finished A10 3-months after launch. Again, you cannot hold onto the narrative that anyone that got there "cheesed" it. It is untrue.
Not only that, you can't sit here and say "the only reason I am not A10 is because I didn't want to cheapen the game experience by cheesing" when you can't cheese Athena rep to begin with. Maybe you are considering speed-runs cheesing? I did not do any speed runs, but they aren't a form of cheesing anything.

Playing a game at a certain time is not extraordinary... Logging into a game when Rare rings the bell is not extraordinary.
@fluidsc How much time daily did you spend playing on average during those 3 months? I imagine it would've had to have been a lot.

Because doing something exceptionally when compared to the average player should not be rewarded... just doing something should be rewarded.
Sorry man, but that is not how this works -- that is not how any of this works. It never has been, and frankly I hope it never will be because that takes away anything special that ever existed in any game -- this one included.
@galactic-geek Why does that matter. If he front loaded playtime to get to A10. What relevance does that have to anything.

You literally already have... but okay.
@fluidsc Quote where I said "complaining on a forum because I don't fit the criteria is extraordinary.". You are completely delusional. Not gonna waste anymore time on you.
