I was just wondering if it was going to be a K and M and Controller pool or a strictly xbox and pc pool because I would like to still play with all my xbox freinds but they dont want to play against other K and M players (understandably) and I was wondering if I could play with a controller and be able to play with them and still have xplay off? if not could it be something to consider?
Xplay option on for xbox or all controller users?
@kin-h4chi that's fine but I think if I want to use a controller on my pc to play with xbox friends and not have to force then to play KM players I should be able too IMO it should be KM and controller option not pc/xbox
I can only give info on what they stated. It's up to u to push the idea through. Suggest it
I'm Xbox controller I beat m/k PC and play with them. I still get asked if I would opt out. It depends on what I'm doing. About 60% of the player base is Xbox and maybe 40% will even opt out. It's not a big issue.
But when I hear that oh he's just a bad Xbox player or something similar from a PC player I just reply with yeah cause PC needs the handicap
@kin-h4chi ya I'm not one of those players KM is a adavantage I just want to have the option so when I'm looking for a group they put xbox players only just controller players only I will try to push it through for sure
@drbullhammer ok i just dont get the reasoning for only xbox controller i would even be fine with a load time delay lol
@drbullhammer but if they add the option to pick the controller only it will block KM input to the game they have the capability of doing that
@rbigbirdm I don't think so. Imagine you start with PC/Controller to be able to join, then grab the mouse and keyboard in the game. Therefore, this can't be a solution. I fear it will be Pc or Xbox, not K/M or controller.
@goedecke-michel but you cant do that it would be the same way if you tried to grab a MK on xbox after you pick controller it will detect the input change and tell you to reconnect your controller
@rbigbirdm Not true they have KB&M for consoles (PC too) that will trick the system and act like a controller they even work on fortnite and every other game with any kind of detection they are easy to find and not expensive just saying
@muffinstuffingu I know what they are but that would be the same problem as on xbox so you cant punish pc players for something like that when xbox players can do it too and they dont work that amazing because there's a max turn radius
@rbigbirdm agreed it's a little hipcritical to segregate a entire population for something thats gunna happen on console only servers anyways
@rbigbirdm yea i wouldn't want my friends to go crossplay when they are enjoying optional wouldn't want to be a burden on them or them feel like im a burden to them
@rip-chongy its not a advantage some people are better on M&KB some controller i have both im more accurate on a controller and i rarely ever game with my controller if it was a advantage every who plugs in a M&KB would be better than everyone on a controller and i been pc gamming for 10 plus years with M&KB if anything controllers have more of a advantage for me despite this
I wonder if keyboard and mouse could be seperated. So assuming it's mostly the mouse that is seen as an advantage is plugged in, you'll be moved to the pc servers.
This would allow keyboards to be plugged in which would be handy for
*xbox players wanting text chat (additionally handy for those mic-less open crews)
*pc players that use an xbox controller@scoobywrx555 not a bad idea because WASD is actually a disadvantage over a joystick when it comes to movement as it's more rigid but mouse is the advantage for sure and all I'm wanting is to be able to play with my controller with only other controller players pc or xbox because controllers are more comfortable to use you dont have to be leaned up to a desk and have both your arms out and I know whats going to happen when I try to use the looking for group on xbox app most of the posts are going to say xbox only so they dont have to play xplay which I totally get but I just wish they could say controller players only because it's going to be much harder for me to find players to get with and enjoy the game
@scoobywrx555 In flight combat sim games some players have a hotas and some use m/kb. PC players dont complain about input devices thats just a console thing. m/kb wont really allow you to sail any better or fire a cannon better. Dont let the PC player board your ship if you dont want to give them the hand to hand advantage you feel they have. They should have just given xbox the ability to use m/kb 1080p 60 fps and been done with it. I have sailed on plenty of mixed crews and we do just fine, dont feel like my crew is horribly handicapped or anything.
@starquest I know but people like to use the excuse that it was a MK player not that the player might just be better at movement, cannon fire, and boarding than you. which a has nothing to do with being pc or xbox some people just assume the person they got dumped on were on pc just because they got beat easily.
@starquest pc is a advantage ONLY in gun vs gun situation. Sword is the primary weapon used doesnt matter if your xbox or pc sword requires no real aim except to just be facing the enemy. PC got nerfed a decent amount with the removal of "double gunning".People think you just pic up a MK and are immediately way better, it still takes time to get used to it and to get better game PVP knowledge it might also have to do that PC players are usually (not always) more of a try hard player and play the game more than most xbox players (not all tho). I get really mad when I jump in the water to shoot someone that jumped off with a barrel where we could easily spot them and then swim straight torward us and as a shoot the barrel that is a easy target they immediately scream [mod edit]. Mouse IS a advantage over joystick but only in certain situations stop making it out that it is basically auto aim and blaming it for every single time you die from bad strategy.
Rare is actually going directly against Microsoft's new guidelines for KB+M on Xbox by doin it this way. The player base should be split based off of input rather then system to keep it fair for everyone. This game is garbage anyway though and not getting better under its current leadership. Don't expect rare to make any logical design choice any time soon. It's all about "how can we cater to streamers and make this more appealing on twitch/mixer". No effort is ever going to be put into turning this into an enjoyable experience for all ages groups and play styles like originally promised.

This is a little dishonest. The article you linked to is specifically talking about xbox one, and separating xbox one players based on input. The article is not talking about crossplay or SoT. Rare are actually following the guidelines by offering an xbox only controller only option, and another 'open to all' option. Nowhere in the article or guidelines does it mention PC players being able to force themselves upon Xbox owners.
@rbigbirdm I hope they dont stick to their word and only make arena optional Xplay.
On the weekend I came across a solo Xbox player that was a noob. He was in a sloop coming into Golden Sands Outpost as the bro and I were spawning in.
It turns out it was his 1st day on the seas and was having trouble with his random crewmates that would join and leave without offering any guidance or anything.
Sensing his discouragement me and my brother took it upon ourselves to take him around the outpost and give him a tour. Showed him what goes where and we told him he looked like garbage 😆 and needed a new jacket.
After the tour and getting him to spend all his gold on a jacket we told him to put on his new jacket and he did and asked "how do I look?"
I replied " oh beautiful, but we got 1 more lesson for ya." As the bro and I both whip out the flintlocks and insta killed him. As his green mist fades we heard laughter.
I went to on his ship and awaited his respawn. As he respawned I danced and said "never trust a pirate."
Being a good sport he laughed thanked us for the help and we joined an alliance.
Ended up doing 3 forts that night while the kid was grinding his OoS missions he ended up with enough gold for 3 jackets 😃Long story but my point being if crossplay wasnt a thing I wouldnt have had this encounter and this kid wouldve continued having a miserable time and might have even quit.
