Every time my crew and I have high tier loot after completing a skeleton fortress or a skeleton ship battle, we are attacked and sunk by the kraken, losing all the loot. Now either we have extremely bad luck, or the kraken is programed to attack a ship when high tier loot is on board. Given that this happens to us EVERY time we play and have decent loot on board, the kraken needs to calm down a little. I enjoy fighting the kacken, but after fighting skeletons for a decent chunk of time to then have all of your loot lost becomes discouraging. Who else is experiencing this issue?

Just kill, him. Or find a rowboat to save your loot. It's easy to kill the Kraken.
Practice makes you better at everything in the game. Can be a challenge solo, but since Karen has been made a lot tamer she seems like an octopus ride at a carnival. You know what to expect and will walk away from it.
If you do not want to risk a lot of loot on board, turn your ship immediately towards the closest edge of the ink. Set your sails to catch the most wind and right the wheel straight. Deal with keeping your ship up and you on board while your ship sails out of her clutches. Take her on only when you are prepared to fight and accept the risk.
It's not just the Kraken in my opinion, everything seems to be very aggressive now.
It is too much in my opinion, I think they need to tune down the spawn rates of things at sea.
Not overly much mind you, just enough so that a 2 different enemies at sea at the same time is a rarity, not a normal occurance.@danish-crusader It's not the aggressiveness IMO it's the randomness. Rare needs to stop designing all of it's threats completely around RNG. It would be far better if the threats had some way of predicting them, both so you could hunt them down if you want to fight them and you can try to avoid them if you don't. Meg is better in regards of having options, but IMO it's way to easy to just run away/ignore it. Kraken is the exact opposite, just as random, but locking players instantly with no options other than to fight it like a Pokemon battle with no escape is just bad design. It would be far better if you could see it coming and be able to escape if you take immediate action or get locked down if you fail.
@betsill Well the Kraken is kind of predictable, as she doesn't attack if a Fort or Ship event is active, but yes, having the option to hunt down these threats, as opposed to having them just pop on you randomly, would be very welcomed.
Being able to see the Kraken come as a giant black shadow, so you could turn and avoid her or stay and fight would be cool =)@danish-crusader That's a really bad way of having "prediction". I didn't know that was a thing until I saw this thread. It also causes unnecessary stress points like OP's story, and it's as unnatural as you can get from a game design point of view.
Rare- "the kraken doesn't attack while a fort/ship is active"
players- "why?"
Rare- "...because we coded it that way..."@betsill Myes well, no system is perfect =P
@archangel-timmy Unless you get grabbed and don't know how to get it to let go then...
How I wish that was the actual kill animation for a grab kill.
@thesensationn Karens difficulty changes depending on the ship.
For sloops it is very easy to kill it/make it go away. For a Galleon? Much more difficult. Thanks for the replies everyone! We usually have a rowboat because qe know the kraken is going to attack. I can easily take the kraken solo, or with 3 people, but as soon as we have 4 guys in a galleon, all bets off, we're going to go down. Normally I'll steer the ship to get out of the circle but the kraken usually bats us right back into the thick of it. I did not know about the krakwn not spawning when a fort is active, that is good to know! It would be nice if those immediate attacks were toned down a tad though. If i see a kraken attacking someone, I'll join into the fight if I don't have loot to help out, knowing the frustrations of getting stomped by the tentacled beasty.

It works the other way matey, since there isn't an active fort up I usually get Krakend on my way to steal your loot. :D

You can escape a Kraken in a few minutes if you get full wind, just keep it directed and bail/repair.
You think you're sailing out of it then..... KRACKEN SLAP!@thesensationn The mechanics changed a little in SP release, I cover how to kill it here. It's not hard if you do it right, unless it wraps over your haul entrance, that is just BS then...
Time code 5:55
@zormis the main issue is that the kraken will spawn immediately after the completion of a skeleton fortress or a skeleton ship battle event. By that time, a ship isn't equipped with sufficient supplies to hd out against a kraken (usually). After spending all that time obtaining that event loot and using the ships resources, the odds of defeating/ escaping the kraken are reduced
@vvoifey You don't need a lot of resources to escape the kraken. Alternatively you can wait until the next fort/ship battle spawns before you sail off.
Unless you're getting consistently attacked, you're not blowing through supplies at a fort. I did a fort last night with rando's on a gally and we escaped the kraken with 0 bananas, 20 planks of wood and 35 cannon balls in a barrel.
Tip on escaping. Shoot people out of grabbed tentacles, keep someone on repair full time, help bail when needed, make sure you shoot down the head ASAP if you get wrapped, be ready correct ship heading when getting slapped.
Finally, not to sound harsh matey but when people sink because they have little supplies I don't feel bad for them because having supplies is a huge part of the game. My crew knows this and we're always gathering supplies, on the way to places we jump off and gather supplies. In ship battles we gather supplies off any floating barrels and on the skeleton ships we're fighting. If we are doing a fort we have 1 person raiding barrels if we're low, if we're not we fill our pockets on the island and empty them when we spawn back on the boat after death. I couldn't tell you how many times I won PVP fights simply because we out supplied them.
Playing with randoms, ones that are not noobs and even PL's, it amazes me how lazy most are when it comes to gather supplies.
@zormis there are many variables that come into play when playing. I know this, I've been playing the game since the first alpha test session two years ago, so I have a decent idea of the goings on. The main purpose of this thread is to bring to light the issue/ concern that after a fort or skelly ship encounter a kraken spawns (the majority of the time). You don't alway have the luxury of sitting at a fort or skelly battle for an extended period of time (due to a number or variables). It'd be nice if the discussion moved back into the direction of the fact that the kraken spawns immediately after these events. Looking for more suggestions and ideas on how to improve or tweak this mechanic would be a better use of this thread than the do's and don'ts of a kraken battle (that sounds like a different thread discussion to me).
So, ideas, suggestions, and opinions (relating to kraken spawn mechanics) for the devs, GO! :P
Thanks! Haven’t had problems with krakens however. Faced a couple yesterday and with a good crew I found we took care of them in literally minutes. 1 repairing, the rest blasting cannons. The kraken is but a blemish on my galleons hull 🤣
I’ve found kraken being more tough so to speak, casually doing the good ol slaping and wrapping itself round the ship. Whenever kraken appears at least one of us stays below deck so we ready to fix straight away. Even though two or three holes appear at same time, and you find yourself yelling for help to bail as you curse under your breath...or perhaps that’s just me? Best advice, always ensure you got row boat so if it does sink you, row your loot right outta there.
I got a repetitive situation with the Kraken as it gets spawned whenever i am fighting or being engaged by another player ship. The loot is irrelevant the ship can be empty or full it doesn't matter. It happened every time i joined a game the last period. What happens is that whenever i am engaged in a fight after some random time a Kraken gets spawned under my ship end of story.
Does anyone else have this?
