Curious About Server Merging

  • Hi everyone,

Frankly, I'm at work and pretty bored and I want to go home and play Sea of Thieves :) Now that has me thinking about weird things. For instance I'm sitting here wondering if anyone knows how server merging works? For example when someone leaves your server, will no one be added back and eventually the server will decide to merge when enough people leave and certain requirements are met? (Speculation on anchor drops).

I'm mainly just curious because I've heard a lot of talk of people losing their treasure due to these merges so I'm trying to be prepared pretty much I guess. I'm a returning player from about a half a year ago so have to learn all the new things.

    Thanks and H A P P Y F R I D A Y

  • @vreyjalee If no one is on your server and you drop your anchor then it will merge you to some server with people. Also, if you're playing on gally, all 4 of you need to be on ship to be merged.

I personally had no problem with loot disappearing, but I know some people do sometimes.

  • @vreyjalee Pretty sure loot is only lost when there is server maintenance, and they shut down.
Have never heard about losing loot when merging severs.

Both are correct here but in some cases it does not merge until there are only 2 ships left in the server and both ships anchor, this is why when I was farming out forts for the commendations and I was the only ship on the server I would not drop the anchor and only use the sails to come to a stop.

In the case of the loot it was a recent patch that made it so that loot even near the player(s) on or around the ship is merged with them so it is not lost, it was an issue in the past where it would fail to do this and cause anything not already on board to be lost i.e such was the case for those that got merged back then after completion of a fort.

All that said don't stay unmerged if you intend to keep the ship going more than 24hrs as that is when the servers sessions start to keel over in terms of lag and overall stability issues.

  • Awesome, thanks for the help everyone.
