@james-upton you've probably muted the thread at this point, but just in case you're still reading: please don't take any of this feedback personally. I hear you that coordination can be difficult, especially on big islands. I happen to agree that a ping system would not really fit in SoT, but just wanted to affirm that this is a valid problem to run into, and all the comments on this thread are disagreements with your idea, not with you as a person. Hope you can still enjoy the high seas without a ping!

The beauty of this game is that there's already a perfectly suited communication system in place....YOU!
I love that this game lets us as players use our eyes, ears, words and brains to solve the challenges we face in the world.
It's vital to communicate to each of your crew in a way that's clear and to the point. You have so many tools at your disposal already; inside and outside of the game.
Whether you're asking for a heading, describing something on the horizon or just trying to find a chicken; this game relies on clear communication.Every time I introduce a new player to the game, the first things they ask are, "Where's my mini map?"...."Will there be an icon to follow?"..."How will I know where to dig?"
I grin and let them down easy by revealing to them that this isn't that kind of game.
It's not going to hold your hand and you will have to think, plan, communicate, listen, explore, etc.It would be atrocious if the developers incorporated what does work in a twitchy, BR, kill everything, type game like Apex Legends into what wouldn't work in Sea of Thieves.
SOT is a world of exploration and adventure that lets you discover all that there is to find.
It's on us to learn how to communicate effectively with our crew, negotiate with would be pirates and work together to find that chicken!!Another symptom of a game with an identity crisis. Instead of shortcuts to breeze through the Sea of Thieves, take time to smell the salty air and appreciate it for what it truly is than for what it is not or does not have.
It is a game about teaming up with family, friends, and strangers. Everyone moves around at the mercy of the wind, your compass when you lose your way, and your lantern when lost in the dark. The game intends for us to fumble around. To stumble. To visit the Ferryman when things turn against us.
The beauty of the game comes from the Sea of Thieves is not another clone of the latest fad. It is not about having conveniences to sail quickly on and then off the sea. It is about taking a break from the same old routine in other games of having everything handed to you or pointed out to you so you do not really have to spend time in the game and actually play it.
A ping system might make sense in a game that requires you to run around finding things quickly to only kill instead of being killed. There would be no point to sailing the Sea of Thieves if there was a X marks the sport for everything. You get the most out of Sea of Thieves when you keep the voyage going, instead of looking for a way to get back to port quickly and log off. It is not a fast paced action shooter Battle Royale clone of a clone of a clone and does not need to be turned into one or borrow something from one to be better. It is the Sea of Thieves and it is good enough for just being what it is and that is because it is not like everything else.

You any idea how much of a pain it is for my wife to tell me exactly where a dropped chest or chicken is on an island?
Please add a ping system like Apex Kegends that would easily allow to precisely ping chests, loot, ammo, animals, ships and enemy players. It would greatly benefit this game imo
My wife can read a compass so I just tell her it's on the west shore, she finds it.

Very good post my friend, this is exactly why I love this game. I love not having everything handed to me, I love the challenge, I love sailing with my friends and family. I have left games because they want to spoon feed you, they make it easy, it's no fun. Let me have my fun, add things but don't make the game easier.

@skritsarn I would have to disagree. It would be the exact opposite. Have you played apex? Instead of either having people yelling over mic or zero communication, you have the characters themselves accurately relaying information. If your pirate character was doing the talking it would be far more immersive than what we have now.
It does. Use gamechat. Make your avatar speak as if it was you.
