5 hours wasted so lazy pirate to steal my loot
What did you expect from a game called "Sea of Thieves?"
Nothing is yours until you sell it, and if a Pirate wants to be a Pirate and come take your treasure off your hands, then they can very well do that and its one of many INTENDED ways to play this game.
The game isn't designed to be a peaceful singleplayer PvE fest. It is a shared world PvP/PvE multiplayer game. The sooner you realize what this means, the better.
Hey @ruedy23! Sorry to hear that you faced some PVP right out of the gate with this game. May I ask what you're hoping to get from this post? Is this a feedback post for Rare, or would you like some tips from more experienced players on how to avoid PVP, or even win at it? Just so I and other people reading have an idea of how to respond.
@barnabas-seadog Agreed. While it's possible, I doubt he went 5 hours without ever being near an outpost and actively chose not to turn in anything. If you're a solo player, turning in often should be near the top of the 'to-do' list.
But! If he wants to have fun with the die-hard PvP folk, you can do what me and a few others like to do and bait ships into pointless chases. Grab a couple chests, get their attention, throw stuff overboard and swing close to outposts like you're trying to sell off the expensive loot, then point towards the red sea and swim out to a passing island and watch them pointlessly board & sink the empty boat you'll get back in a couple minutes. And repeat.
@ruedy23
The only lazy person in this story is you - scuttling so the other guy can just "have" your loot. You might as well have just left in on the shore where you dug it up.

Yeah... not sure if you are exaggerating the length of the voyage or stopped enumerating your loot, but no matter, like others have said, don't take any chances and sell often.
sick is lazy no skilled players picking on a solo.picking on my enjoyment of the game
Piracy is part of the game, as it's title entails. Playing by yourself, especially as a new player is pretty hard. Some players attack anyone and everyone in sight. Sometimes crews will attack smaller crews no matter what (again, pirates) and it's part of the game, you have to outsmart/outplay them.
You might want to join open crews and play with other people (strength in number) or maybe join a discord channel and find crewmates over there. Once you are more comfortable with the game, try your hand at solo again with what you have learned.
In the end, it's only loot mate. Not getting as fast to that new shiny coat or sword isn't that big of a deal :) You might want to adjust your attitude towards that fact though, because you can be sure that in this game, it won't be the last you will get sunk. There is always a bigger fish. Sometimes literally.

:( Maybe someday they can create the solo version of Sea of thieves?
I actually think this would be a great idea.Bad idea, it'd kill the game.
I had a similar solo sloop experience the other day - after about an hour's worth of work, I had 3 captain's chests, 5 maurader's chests, 2 seafarer's chests, and 2 castaways, along with a few skulls and a gem to boot. As I went to turn in, a brigantine appeared out of nowhere right behind my boat, blocked my escape, and boarded as I quickly switched to my blunderbuss. I was quickly outnumbered and sent to the ferry. Figuring that I didn't have the time or the inclination to fight back, I just scuttled, let them have the loot, and called it a day.
It's this final part I think you need to get used to - if it happens, it happens, so don't sweat the small stuff! Just take a deep breath, and move on. There will always be more opportunities for you in the future, much like how the brigantine seized an opportunity against me. The only schtick is that you gotta keep playing for that to happen. If you give up and stop playing SoT, then guess who wins? Well, it certainly won't be you, that's for sure.
Sometimes, you just gotta... Let It Go.
I for one solo Athena voyages, takes me around 2 to 3 hours to complete and is a ton of loot that I only sell if it is convenient, else I hoard.
I am one of those players that is a pinata of treasure if caught at the right time. It doesn't happen often, but I have lost every single bit of loot leading up to the Athenas: 10 chests, 8 skulls, some bits and Bob's etc. Mauraders and hatefuls at a minimum. Thankfully I have never lost the Athenas itself.
Now it is a sad aspect to lose it, but it is also my choice to keep it on board. It is the risk I take and the confidence in my own abilities that make me flaunt it out in the open (have things on the top deck) and it does get punished every so often.
Winning and losing is part of the game. Now the question is how much are you willing to lose? If you are hauling more than that around the map, then it is on you.
Head to outposts when you have acquired more than you feel comfortable losing.
Other than that, welcome to the life of a solo captain, where we have to be prepared to face all dangers in the seas with our own wit and cutlass. It is the most challenging type of experience in the game and can be the most rewarding.
You're sailing the seas solo.
You're carrying loot.
You're playing a pirate game.Yet you're surprised that you're attacked by pirates for your loot?
Other players don't just appear out of nowhere, so you weren't paying attention. And since you say they are lazy they won't chase because chasing costs energy.
This is purely self inflicted and I can't be sorry for you. Also as for your Idea of having a flag that makes it so people don't attack you... That's just a bad Idea here are some reasons why:
- It's emersion breaking, seeing a ship shooting at it and somehow it not doing anything is just lame.
- You'll just get griefed. People will board you take your treasure maybe chase you and wait untill you turn in untill you exit the safety of your ship to just kill/ loot you.
- This is a PvPvE game, the PvP enhances the game so much, not just from the standpoint of someone playing a PvP game (I'm not I'm actually quite passive) but from a PvE perspective. The threats in the world are quite shallow, they don't do much can be avoided or cheesed with ease. Players bring a whole new threat to the game that's otherwise impossible. Also the threat of PvP looms over friendly interactions too, which makes that more fun too.
I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble. The truth is, this isn’t a game you can do alone. I play this game with my brother and my friend and we have no trouble at all. I have soloed a sloop and done ok but against other players, I can never win. The truth is, you must either avoid player ships or sink them if they dare approach you. Also, never go to an outpost with a player ship in sight. It’s like saying “ I got treasure, Come rob me”

I actually think this would be a great idea. Then it wouldn't be sea of THIEVES anymore.. If no one can steal from you??
Just hang in there! Im sure the game will soon be divided even more. The crossplay issue has been solved... and im sure all other "problems" will be solved. Perhaps we all get our own private sessions, where we can sail around without any other players and pesky sea monsters. :/
EDIT: This is pure sarcasm...
@eva1977 Actually, such games alredy exists for quite some time now. If You don't like the multiplayer aspect of SoT, then go on and download Age of Pirates: Carraibean Tales, Sea Dogs: City of Abadoned Ships, Sid Mayers Pirates or Assassin's Creed: Black Flag. You have a lot of alternatives so why bother playing the game that brings Ya woes instead of fun? ¯_(ツ)_/¯.
