Just a small one, I watched that fantastic video on the PFX team at Rare.
I'd love to see the smoke more prominently build up from guns and cannons being fired. Just a small thing that would add so much atmosphere to a battle.
Smoke from guns and cannons ect.
Very much wanted feature for me!!!
I want a lot of smoke so that you cant even see a thing but smoke if you have fired a couple of cannonballs.
The weapons can have some smoke too and dont spare on this. It adds atmosphere and would flatten the gap between progamers and casuals as you cannot use everything at full potential because smoke hinders you to see all and everything. When playing Naval Action you fire a line and you then see nothing.
I remember back in the days beeing in a fleet of 25 ships firing and you saw nothing but smoke for Minutes.
That was an amazing experience.@thepoopoohands have another post going with suggested changes to combat as it relates to the most recent combat rebalancing. I am keeping a running list. Mind if I add this to that list. I very much would love to have smoke plumes added to guns and cannons.
If you were watching from another vessel
The lingering smoke combined with muzzle flash, with a slight sound delay if you are the cannonballs recipient. Think that would look & feel... awesome. Particularly awesome at night as the muzzle flashes lights up the lingering smoke.
The cannonball itself... well... probably would hurt just the same :)
edit:
Question I know it's dependant on the mass, wind, elevation, and distance etc.But.... what is the velocity of a cannonball in comparison to the speed of sound, has the game got it right?
Or is it.... Craggy! ... it's only a game, doesn't matter? :DI'm assuming the velocity of a "standard" cannonball is less than the speed of sound.

@th3xr34p3r Nice shots! The smoke looks great, but needs to build up and last a bit longer :)
In that screen shot notice the ships are moving. If they're moving then the smoke should not persist next to the ship given the limits of the game physics.
What I mean by that is I doubt they have a mechanic for the wind that would carry smoke; but if they did that would be super cool.
Although if they did that, then the smoke would not always follow along side the ship; instead it would move in the direction the wind is going and that's not always the direction the ship is heading.
Either way I am 100% in favor of adding smoke to all the firearms and cannons.

Sorry, I didn't mean to say for it to persist along the ship at all times, I meant in a more general sense as it dissipates rather quickly overall :)
@thepoopoohands Oh my god yes. I have been playing black flag again (actually haven't played it in a week or two, need to get back to it) and it is so satisfying seeing the smoke build up when you fire a few broadsides.
Would be beautiful and add some interesting game-play to close-proximity ship fights.
