Pirating in Foreign Waters: SOT XBox WiFi in Hotels

  • This may be common knowledge. Dunno, but still wanted to share. If I didn't know, likely at least one other person out there doesn't either........

Going to be on the road in a hotel most of next week. Fortunately, I can bring along my console. However, a lot of hotels have a dual authentication system to use their WiFi, which requires a browser to agree to some terms, etc. before getting online. (There may be a browser function on my XBox I'm not familiar with which allows you to do this function.)

Also fortunately, I have access to a PC w/ Windows 10 that can used as a Hot Spot. It's easy to set up the PC to share the WiFi signal the PC is receiving from the hotel after you use the PC browser to fully access WiFi.

Tip: Set up the XBox console at home to pair with the PC you will be using as a hotspot, and test out the connection and gameplay. The XBox will remember the hotspot and will easily connect again once you've got the PC up and running w/ the hotel internet once you arrive.

Good tip. Then again you could just play SOT on your PC. This game can run on a toaster.

  • @man-o-war-meche , right, but PC work equipment, admin has blocked gaming sites....the bug-gers.

    Ahh that makes sense, cheers.

  • I've done it before and believe it was something like this. Get the Wifi password from the hotel, connect your phone to there wifi, go to settings and write down the Mac address I believe. Now disconnect your phone from there wifi, go to Xbox network settings and type in the Mac address you wrote down, and boom your Xbox is connected to hotel WiFi. It was something like that.

  • The Xbox also has a browser.

    I like that one.
