So I’ve been a player on the seas for almost a year and have noticed wacky stuff with the mermaids but before now have never had a place to voice my opinion. First, when you are on an island and the mermaid spawns, it can sometimes be at the very back of the island or outpost or at a different location than anywhere close to you. I for one hate this behavior due to wasting my time searching for that mermaid or swimming more than 2-3 boats length away to reach the mermaid. As well when I want to climb aboard an enemy’s ship and be sneaky or bomb them secretly from underneath, the mermaid spawns and ruins my chance for that attack. And so I feel instead of having he mermaid as an automatic spawn when you get too far away from the ship, maybe have a spawn shell in your inventory. This spawn shell will call a mermaid to your direct location near water so long as you can swim in said water location. This would make stealth easy, would also make a pin point location for mermaid spawns, and allow some in the middle of battle that have been blown off their ship to return easier than having to swim away from their ship for the mermaid to spawn. Rare/Sea of thieves, please implement this or something similar to it!
Spawn Mermaids and the spawn seashell
na mermaids are fine, when they spawn at the opposite side of the island just jump into the water on the side you are at and swim out to spawn a dif one. when they appear when you are trying to do sneaky plays its not always easy for other players to see and aslong as you are on their ship, when the ship leaves the mermaid wont keep spawning, it will only spawn if you hop in the water again
@d4m0r3d I’ve tried the swimming in the water in the past but it always spawns it where it should have spawned it originally and so I just think it should be more focused and to the point when needed. As for being sneaky, when in the water, out of the times ive tried to board someone’s ship, the mermaid has given me or a crew mate away 5/8 times of which is not good. Also if I’m on their ship and they start moving then the mermaid will keep reappearing as we sail. It doesn’t just stop because you are on a ship.
@signalchris-d you sure, i sneak onto ships all the time and i never notice my mermaid spawning while on board the ship, maybe if it has water on the bottom of it, idk. but i have snuck onto ships and have spent probs at least an hour on them and they dont notice my mermaid. are you sure they spawn cause i swear not long ago i did this and it only spawned when i jumped off the ship, and it spawned right infront of me too
@d4m0r3d Yeah, just last night my friend tried getting on an opposing ship while they were moving and they saw his mermaid pop up and then turned to where he couldn’t get on. As well when I was in the crows nest of another ship just the other week, a crew with mics kept on saying “there’s a mermaid, we have someone in the water, guard the rails” and then when it kept showing up when they stopped at an island, they said “search the ship” and believe it or not they found me. The mermaid pops up not just because you are on a ship but because your a distance always from your ship. Of which I believe needs to be rectified and changed.

@signalchris-d you know what i do when that happens, i say out loud on the mic, s word i missed il have to merm back, and that works suprisingly 100 percent of the time it feels.
