The monster AI behavior / difficulty needs tweaking

  • Some friends and I recently installed the game after being burnt out over 6 months ago. Curiosity about the latest updates had drawn us back.

We had just finished a skull fort and had just set sail to an outpost when both the kraken and the megalodon attacked our brigantine simultaneously.
In a brig, we could have taken one of the monsters, but two? When you get sucked out by the kraken and the meg knocks your other two teammates off the ship, all you can do is watch your ship and treasure sink. The icing on the cake was having us respawn at the far in the map with a head wind.

Is that the frustration we can expect now? The AI just rolls the dice for you, and decides to ramp up the difficulty beyond what you can overcome? I don't mind making things more difficult, but just having the AI decide say "NOPE" to all your efforts. It's not worth supporting such a game.

  • @tacmas I know your feeling! Was playing on a brig with 2 friends when we got attacked by kraken and then meg showed up.. sure we could still do it but the problem was that we sailed in the Devils Roar and suddenly the volcano next to us erupted aswell :) nothing we could do.. honestly it sucks but it happens so rarely that I don’t think it’s that big of a problem..

  • @tacmas Check out this entertaining video:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvrJcdbJ1zA

Btw. the kraken and megadolons like to spawn right after the fort is finished so sometimes it's better to wait few minutes to avoid being the ship they attack.

  • The AI does "roll the dice" and its a good thing.
Sometimes its very difficult and sometimes its easy.
Life isnt always fair all you can do is to be prepared to increase your chances to win and its perfectly fine.

  • Yeah. This happens far too frequently. Any time I don't want the fight I 180 the boat. Usually gets you out of the ink pretty quick smart. Then you can just kill the Meg.

  • First, it only happens here and then. Second, it can easily be handled and won. You just came back and start to judge difficulty. You might try to learn about them, first. Good advice: several hints, video, tactics are presented in this forum.

    Happy sailing!

  • Row boat is all ya needed to save day

  • @tacmas just because you lost a battle doesn't make it that the game is not balanced.

You just came back and you clearly have not learned the mechanics of the fights, as both the Kraken grab and the knock off by Megan are avoidable. Yet you believe that it is the game, not your own crew that is at fault.

Tons of us have lost and returned to overcome our problems, by learning from our mistakes. I have beaten the combination you described playing solo, so it is clearly possible.

It is not the game that lost you that battle, it was your actions and inability to respond to the game mechanics correctly.

Games are about losing and winning. It is up to you to adapt and become better, not up to the world to adapt. The seas are a dangerous place and it is up to you to learn and overcome the challenges it brings.

  • @archaell Oh yeah, I forgot about that. That's right the kraken used to be in a soft of sleep mode while forts were active. Since they just spawn one after another and the kraken still attacks everyone I feel that rule is out the windows now.

As for the Kraken and Meg spawning at the same time, learn to fight both. It's not that hard to escape a kraken and megladons are easy since you just need to keep an eye on them and stand on the opposite side from where they bite (or stand right in his bite to still land on the ship).

  • the kraken is really easy, so you should have focused the meg and just sailed out of the kraken or focus the meg then kill the kraken

  • @d4m0r3d It's rather difficult to maneuver the boat when your crew has been removed by said monsters.

  • @tacmas all you have to do is just dont touch the wheel and leave the sails down, literally dont need anyone on your ship and you will be fine, maybe when the kraken comes just get everyone to go overboard and let your ship do all the work. and how on earth did all your crew mates get sucked up by the kraken, dont they know you can avoid it by going below deck or know that you can shoot it to make them drop you lol
