Are macros allowed?

  • I want to be able to mash space, without binding it to mousewheel, but mashing space quick enough is hard, loud, bad for the keyboard, and tiring.

Is it allowed to make a macro to mash spacebar?

  • @fakechair488135 in actual fact it is not I am afraid.

  • You can't really detect the use of macros so while the official stance is no I can understand that you might want to make some ease of life macros.

For example having a macro that activates a left klick every 2 seconds for digging so you can just press and hold a button for it. It doesn't speed up anything it just prevents RSI from happening.

an example of a macro I don't condone is the use of a macro that assists in shoot swat shoot for example. (and that's to be honest the only one I can imagine someone making that would be bad).

  • @fakechair488135 Hey, here is an official response from a member of the team regarding Macros. It was posted by @RareCSM

I cannot get the quote directly as the thread has been locked but here is what they said:

Under the Xbox Code of Conduct, Terms of Use and Services Agreements, it is not permitted to tamper with the game or services in any un-authorised way, whether that is via Hardware such as Mouse and Keyboard or 3rd party software that emulates Macro functionality. As such, accounts can be terminated if found to be doing it.

Hope that clears it up for you.

  • Actually, I dont think that if the game itself dont provide a macro interface, macros are in fact allowed...

  • @amancebacabras Read above my dude, you may risk getting banned if you use them :)

  • @knifelife Yeah, I cant edit my post, dont know why... And I was saying the same, if the game dont provide a macro interface to let you do them, I think (and now you confirm) that is against the rules, just like you pointed ;)

    That's xbox.

A macro program doesn't tamper with the game. The xbox services aren't tampered with either, on pc you don't need to tamper with any xbox app files to make a macro.

  • @fakechair488135 Just quoting what the developer said my dude. But SoT is owned by MS which owns the Windows 10 platform and falls under the Xbox ToS.

Just be careful I guess, as if you are wrong it could mean you getting banned. :)

A macro program doesn't tamper with the game. The xbox services aren't tampered with either, on pc you don't need to tamper with any xbox app files to make a macro.

That depends on how MS define tampering.

The dictionary goes with: tampering - to interfere with (something) in order to cause damage or make unauthorised alterations.

I'd say MS will themselves decide whether using a macro counts as interference or an unauthorised alteration. Macro use doesn't damage the software itself, but it does damage the overall xbox live platform that MS are providing if it becomes rampant or goes unchecked.

I can see why somebody might want to use a macro for something innocuous. I wouldn't advise that though. MS and Rare have given fair warning that in their eyes it is against the ToS, so no matter how innocent your intentions, you run a significant risk of being banned.
