Crossplay getting addressed next dev update!

  • @d3monwo1fx Thanks for sharing this!

Great to know they know there is a problem with it!

And a massive shut up to ALL YOU PC PLAYERS that thought you were good and claimed we were just being salty!

Can't wait for the day when we have total parity and i see somebody out on the seas typing in the chat.. Oh am i gonna grief you!!

Shut up? To PC players? I'd wait until you see the Dev video if I was you...

  • @flatflafel just a difference in ping

  • @darkjedirebel I was not trying to bait anything, just point out your own contradictions, and how the real issue, from your own words, is too much PvP.

All I ask is how do you think optional cross play will solve that?

You even gave examples of how you play that describe exactly what you are complaining about.

Again not baiting just pointing out how people, including yourself, lump the very valid problems you describe "not having much to do", and "turning to PvP for fun" - I have paraphrased a bit, into its all the PC players fault.

And I haven't seen anyone be able to justify that. Its easier to blame the other "tribe" (PC Players)

I'll be asking for a refund if they end crossplay. It is one of the major reasons I bought the game. I have little else to play with XBox friends and I've wanted, for years, to have something to play with them.

I will not suck up my $60 dollar purchase and play on empty servers.

Same here mate if we lose crossplay completely or and changes to it negatively impacts fun and gameplay. Was one of the main reasons for my family to all purchase Sea of Thieves. It was so we could all play together.

Sad if Rare has started believing in this fear mongering conspiracy theory. Wonder what will be complained about next when they still lose to someone else.

  • I find it ironic that the majority of players against optional Cross play are either PC players or from what I would assume (those who cannot even tell who is Xbox or PC).

Optional Cross play will be the best thing they ever did to this game and would bring back many many players who got sick of the ridiculous advantage differences.

  • @x-crowheart-x

I have witnessed this in games going back into the 90's.

The folks who pay the bills are the Bartle Test type players who would rather cooperate and complete, collect, etc. As a title ages, these players continue to play to complete their collection, etc. Their cries only grow louder as the new players join less and less as the years roll on. The game changes to accommodate. It's only logical to obey the money.

  • There is a lot of fear mongering going on. People need to stop stating warnings about losing half the population, or quitting before anything is even said on how they will implement it.

He stated they have been having internal discussions.

Fear not, "they" are the people that made the game, love it, and want it to succeed, the devs that interact and listen to feedback. They aren't going to sabotage the game. But it may not be done in the way you prefer.

If they were looking for suggestions on this topic, they would have created a feedback thread again on it, like they have done in the past.

Make sure you catch their video explaining their implementation of crossplay:

Personally, I hope they are announcing they are adding the game to the Nintendo Switch =)

My hope is that Rare will say something along the lines of, "we're not going to enable optional cross play at this time but we feel that the combat changes coming in February 6th's update will help level the playing field." If the statistics are correct about only 15% of the player base being PC players then doesn't that mean a majority of the time Xbox players are in fact fighting other Xbox players?

I think when someone gets bested their first response is to look at how the other player has an advantage rather than what they could do to improve their own advantage. Keep in mind I'm NOT using the word advantage in place of cheating I'm simply saying that if someone dies they might think, "well I was strafing! How did that guy kill me?! He must be a PC player with professional grade aim!" When in reality maybe that player wasn't strafing well enough or they bumped into something, the opposing crew had a 2nd player that they weren't aware of, or maybe that other player just has really good aim on an Xbox controller!

My crew is mostly comprised of Xbox players. We go up against all sorts of players and my crew doesn't seem to have a problem. No ones perfect and my crew definitely has our fair share of our own sunken ships but we always look at what we did and what we can do to prevent something like that from happening in the future. I think we've made huge strides together as a crew and I think more importantly we've become better players because of it.

Well said sir! My spouse and I play on PC. We hardly ever see other players on a PC. We also love playing our XBOX as well. Do not consider ourselves having an advantage. The only advantage if you want to call it that is We can type out messages to other pirates instead of just selecting from can text. My family that plays together with us does everything the same as we do.

Sadly some in society find more ways to separate us all than bring us together. A lot for the same reasons happen in games as it does in real life. Same is true with this. Crossplay is a way to unite gamers no matter what the box looks like that your controller is hooked to. The more we come together and play together, the more we have to win together.

    No advantage? 😂. Okay mate.

  • I really hope they dont implement any form of optional cross play as this will go against one of their biggest principles which is not to split the SoT community.

Optional crossplay will be the death of this game.

    What’s the arena then?
Games already going to die by that logic.

  • Best outcome i would hope for is optional crossplay to come into effect.

Then you can sail in your own little pirate world, meeting the same people constantly as the majority of console users would opt out instantly of crossplay..

Sure, we all have friends who we have made via crossplay..

But we will find new ones and soon forget all about you.

imagines tumbleweeds blowing across the seas on a pc server Happy thoughts!

i can't wait to see the backlash from the PC crowd when they offer an auto-aim option for console.

I don't see why PC can't get auto aim too? Then it would be balanced, and if you say "we'll they can turn and get the target faster". All I say to that is what about the person who has their controller sensitivity turned up and turns faster than you. Is that balanced.

I think there should be no sensitivity controls, since you are so into balance.

huh? never have I said there needs to be balance. you will always have people with better gear. I like the game the way it is. I was only commenting on the fact how one change will upset another group. you can't make everyone happy.

  • i dont think its to do with auto aim or crossplay toggle, i think its likely about keyboard and mouse support coming for xbox users.

I say this because i noticed razers website listing sea of thieves as a compatible game for the xbox K+M list, but was then quietly removed from the list. Im guessing it was removed due to rare not officially announcing it yet.

  • Don’t get too excited. The “dev update” is the video that Rare puts out - not the game upgrade itself. For Joe to say it will be “addressed” simply means he will talk about it. He might say they have looked at the telemetry and the only real issue has been double gunning, which is fixed now. Or he might say other changes implemented or planned will level the playing field. Or even that the telemetry shows no significant advantage for players on certain platforms! Do not assume optional cross play is the only thing that might be done.

Perhaps they will simply make ladders retractable so that boarding is harder. :-)

  • I'm on xbox, I like crossplay, don't change it.

  • I'm on xbox, I dont like crossplay, change it

  • I'm on PC & Xbox, Don't change it.

  • My prediction: optional crossplay. Xbox players will rejoice and then they get dunked on again... They try to figure out what else to complain about

My prediction: optional crossplay. Xbox players will rejoice and then they get dunked on again... They try to figure out what else to complain about

There won't be anything for us to complain about as we won't be getting punked on by macro PC users.

  • About time it’s absolutely insane that we are forced to play against pc when they have a huge advantage I didn’t but the game to be at an disadvantage fix it

  • @jonavuka

    I wonder:

Xbox players banned for cheating in game % ?

Pc players banned for cheating in game % ?

Now, i'm not for one second suggesting all PC players resort to this, far from it..
But it is the nature of many a PC gamer to build their hardware, be it for a hobby or to gain an advantage over other players in games that console users just don't do.
Sure, some of us might purchase an Elite controller but the core of the game will run the same for all console users and all is fair. This is what we expect from an online game.. Even one that is advertised as crossplay!

Every other crossplay title will give you the option of optional crossplay because there will always be the possibility for unmatched gaming experiences where a PC can out perform a console and gain some advantage, as too many are now experiencing i'm afraid.
I wish this wasn't so.. But it is.

Optional crossplay has to come to Sea of Thieves too.. We the consumer can then choose if we wish to partake in some crossplay gaming.

  • @needsmokes you'll need to clarify what you're wondering. PC players banned for "cheating" probably has little or no correlation with PC players upgrading their rigs to get better graphics/performance. They are two separate issues. Also, I bet that it's a very small % on both counts; at this point probably sub-1% on cheating, and I would guess sub-20% on any kind of excessive upgrade.

  • @vorondil1

Sure, let me explain my thinking.

We have now seen several Dev update videos where a zero tolerance stance has been issued on cheating, and rightly so. And several times we have been informed that bans have been enforced and will continue to do so. Fantastic news for all!

How can you cheat on console?
How can you cheat on PC?

It's clearly been happening. So i'm wondering, which platform has it been happening on, one or the other or both? I'm guessing here of course, but i might have an incline on which one. And i'm sure you do too.

  • @needsmokes gotcha! Yep, I get the impression it's pretty hard to cheat on console, so most banned cheaters are probably pc. Good riddance to them. My hope, though, is that Rare's enforcement has been effective enough that actual cheating is more or less completely gone now, from both platforms alike, in which case it wouldn't be hugely relevant to crossplay discussions. Haven't a clue if that's the case or not, though.

  • @vorondil1

And that is why many console players are left feeling disillusioned with the crossplay experience so far.

Many of us have been at the wrong end of the stick with some very strange happenings that have left us very little chance of success, and when you have spent hours playing and have built up a healthy resource selection, to suddenly get wiped out with no chance or hope of making a fair fight of it, leaves you with a very bitter taste for forced cross play.

I've played since launch, i have the over achiever sails, doesn't for one minute make me good. But i am seasoned enough to know when something is amiss and of course only ever truly know if i was facing a PC player if they begin to type in the chat, or manage to get a conversation struck up with them at some point. There are other give away signs, but those could be discounted for various reasons.

All we want is what we were promised, and that is for ever pirate, no matter what level they are, to be equal.

  • I like the idea of a set turn speed or sensitivity. That’s where i see the biggest diversity in input devices. I think other games would benefit from this type of balance too. Unfortunately I’m sure it’s open to manipulation.

  • @br0crastinat0r yep that's one of the more promising solutions! My question though is if you set it too low, then you'll throw off all of us PC players that are used to high sensitivity. If you set it too high, console players will probably get surprised and irritated by how over-sensitive it is. And if you try to meet in the middle, you'll just irritate everyone at once (the hallmark of a good compromise, eh?).

  • @needsmokes I hear you, friend! My personal experience (and that of my console crewmates) has been that every time a battle was lost, it was a question of skill and not hardware advantage. I am concerned that after only a couple incidents that were glitches/cheating (separate issues from crossplay), console players are over-exaggerating the issue. However, it sounds like you have much more experience on the seas then I, so I totally don't mean to question or invalidate your experience. If you're confident that there is a truly significant disparity, then I am 100% in favor of finding the least invasive way possible to fix that disparity. Here's to hoping Rare finds a good solution that satisfies all/most of us!

  • @vorondil1 @BR0CRASTINAT0R I have actually been suggesting that as the only real solution to keep cross play as it is now. No option but to play cross play. It is the only way to truly balance between the two. And, since most PC players insist the differences are very minor, it won't really be game breaking for them. (For the record, I play on both, and there are definitely differences between the two that can make a big difference in PvP).

  • @vorondil1 I agree completely. The situation on turn speed is not an easy one, and will persist even if we get and optional cross play or input. I’ve noticed it’s a determining factor in most fps. As this game is built around a level playing field, that would be the best solution. They have already adjusted the sensitivity once or twice, can’t really argue it’s not an option for them to do it again.

  • @nofears-fun

Would you mind explaining to us all the differences you have experienced.

So that we may be better enlightened, from a player that has experience on both platforms.

  • @nofears-fun @BR0CRASTINAT0R good points all around. If they do try setting turn speed/sensitivity, do you think it would work better to slow down pc turn speed more, or turn up console turn speed more? Or meet in the middle? See my earlier post for the source of my curiosity :)
