This game is so unbalanced and frustrating. - My experience in Sea of Thieves.

  • I was picking resources to fight a skeleton ship, I fought, it was very difficult, but I felt very happy when I defeat them, I put all the loot on my ship and then I could escape from a Megalodon that that chased me, I felt very nervous.
After escape I was going to sell the loot, but a guy in a another sloop comes too close I tried to shot him with my cannons but then he jump in to my boat and exploded on me with a barrel.
I re spawned in my ship and I achieved repair it. He disappeared but after that I listen something strange and I see that the enemy player was sleeping behind de barrels in the bottom of my sloop I tried to kill him but I cant did it, he takes advantage of a glitch because he traversed the 3d mesh of the barrels whe he did the sleep animation, I have saw people doing the same thing before and it is copied from the Youtubers that are joking on the other players... The enemy player jump and killed me after one shoot using the two weapons glitch... after re spawned again I try to kill him and he jumps like a rabbit meanwhile we told me a lot of rude words, I did some damages but he move so fast with no normal jumps... after that he killed me again and after re spawned he stole all my things.. and explodes my ship again... I lost every thing... that was very frustrating and sad.

I tried to continue doing missions again to find more objects. after some hours I was able to get 5 good chests a skull and a chalice, but when I was going to sell all things that I get with my effort a galleon appears I could not escape... and it arrived with 4 players who jumped into my boat with explosive barrels, they tell me a lot of rude words through voice chat. I could not do anything ... everything was stolen ... and after I saw my watch, I realized that lost eight hours of my real life doing nothing... I didn't get any reward with my effort meanwhile the toxic players are rewarded.

I don't know what do you think, but this is happening constantly and the game is turned in a very frustrating experience... I think that the developers must change the combat mechanics and the explosive barrels with another way to use it because I have not seen naval fights, only people jumping with explosive barrels and wining a fights in seconds... this game is totally unbalanced specially for solo players like me, I don't have friends or a team in this game. Since a started to play this game I have had more bad experiences that good ones and it is horrible... there is no help or support for solo players, there is not fun like advertising videos... I feel like I lost my money in this game in exchange for stress, frustration and depression and no way to do a refund...

  • are you trying to just play this game solo? This game isn't really designed to be played solo. I wouldn't recommend it at all. Only very crafty and seasoned veterans can sail the seas without a crew. If it's frustrating I wouldnt continue without help.

  • @therealepicandy If you have read my post completely, yes, I play just because I like it, the game gives you the experience that other games do not have. When I bought the game in advertising it says that you can play it alone, but it is more difficult. But here we find a big difference between difficulty and unbalance. As a solo player you can not do anything most of the time ... also I have write about glitches used by players.

  • I've played mostly solo and it is much harder to do some things. That's just the way the game is - if you're playing solo, you are going to lose most encounters with other players especially if they have more crew members.

I've also played on open crew galleons and brigantines and have been in some pretty decent crews, although you will get your share of bad ones.

  • @lordkranon as they said, its super difficult and not recommended. I played for the first several months and have been back about 2 months. I hate playing solo because of its difficulty level. I wouldn't recommend it. I don't see how they could ever balance that.

  • @therealepicandy
in other words I lost my money... and here is no PvE mode for solo players... I propose a enemy Pirates with AI that replace the enemy players, like the skeletons in a PvE mode. Because the AI doesn't play with cheats, or take advantages with the current glitches.

    Welcome to Sea of Thieves.

  • @Lordkranon

So, if I am reading this right, you decided to play solo, which is the hardest way you can play this game, and then you got pirated in a pirate game.

    Welcome to SoT.

  • @soopavillain420 I think you replied to the wrong guy.

  • @d3adst1ck Yeah..... seems that way....apologies. lol

    Edited to tag the OP.

  • this whole PvE server thing can't happen. It will ruin the whole reason for the game. Just wait until arena comes out and those that want to go butt heads will most likely be playing that instead of taking their frustrations out on you for the majority of the time. Just remember there will always be those people that would rather go kill noobs than go into the arena with like minded people.

    So there's that.

  • @therealepicandy Thank you for your support I appreciate it. you are the only one that no say "welcome to sea of thieves" with sarcasm.

  • @lordkranon sounds like you had a good initiation to the game... I had similar things happen when I played solo at the start and it only helped know what to watch out for. It will get better and solo is smart to start in order to help u figure out the game. Only gets much easier from there with an occasional difficulty spike every once in a while.

  • @lordkranon Im more of a realist knowing that a game cant be made to fit every player. It wasn't sarcasm. Nearly every game's downfall happens when they try to conform to every personality. Look back at all the MMOs going back to early 2000's, they failed because they got rid of the interaction between players and made them solo oriented.

Solo isn't always a good thing in a massive multiplayer online game.

  • @d3adst1ck Are you assume that developers are thieves with your sarcasm? congratulations if you have a lot of friend to play with them.

  • @lordkranon I already said I play mostly solo. I know I will have a harder time. I've lost stuff to other pirates. That's how the game goes - solo is hard mode.

  • @therealepicandy I understand what do you say, don't worry but usually people write me Welcome to Sea of Thieves with sarcasm like the two persons above. you didn't it that's why I appreciate your response, you wrote with objectivity.

  • @d3adst1ck yes I understand that. but what about combat mechanics and glitches like sleep behind the barrels, instant kill with to weapons, explosive barrels that win fights in seconds and the toxicity of players with the rude words in the voice chat, is the main theme of my post. players abuse with the mechanics and it result in unbalance game play.

  • @lordkranon The only exploit is being able to fire two guns at nearly the same time and that is being removed in next update. If people are being abusive in voice chat, report them. Everything else you mentioned is regular gameplay.

You have to check behind barrels, tables, beds and other obstacles for sleeping people - that's not a glitch. If they are sleeping inside loot piles, don't make piles big enough to hide in. Avoid explosive barrels - they will explode you and/or your ship.

  • @lordkranon

Sarcasm? You don't know the meaning.

I was being absolutely genuine. You got the full SoT experience. Skele ship, Megladon, and then pirated by other crews.

That's the game you signed up to play... welcome!!

Instead of asking the game to be tailored to your liking, how about adapting and overcoming? A little practice and experience goes a long way, and nobody wins every battle. Nobody.

  • Go get em breadmaster! nice thumbnail :)

  • Part of what is said here is true, its not about learning or playing its about it being to hard for solo players and sometimes people don't have enough online friends that play like one needs.

  • Barrels are fine in their current state. In reality, kegs only work on new/oblivious players. This isn't intended to be an insult, but your story gives the impression that you are unfamiliar with PvP in this game.

    1. You didn't guard your ladder, people don't just magically get aboard your ship. You missed the signs of a boarder. You have only yourself to blame.
    2. You let someone with a keg board your ship. If shot by anything, it goes boom killing the player holding it.
  • @lordkranon Galleons don't just magically appear. Ships are visible from far enough away that you have plenty of time to make your fight or flight decision.

Them sinking you and stealing from you is completely fine. Verbal harassment is 100% unacceptable and you shouldn't have to deal with that. If you have recordings or know the time it took place then Rare's CS team can look into that probably.

I hope you are able to jump back into your next play session and have a good time. Keep an eye on the horizon, watch your ladders if you're near another player ship, learn how to use those gunpowders for yourself and take the cake.

    You got this!

  • I've learned a lot just from having an open crew. Sometimes I get new people but most of the time people teach me a new tactic. Open your crew up. No need for online friends list.

I have met some SoT friends through open crew, a lot of us play together now. Discord is also a way to find crew members.
Hats off to the solo players, it's hard mode but I don't like doing it, I like playing as a team.

  • @lordkranon I understand your frustration but I don't see how any of this is unbalanced, especially since you could in theory do the exact same thing.

A keg isn't really a big deal as long as you don't die from the blast, especially on a sloop, they sink so slow.

  • @lordkranon haha well you just gotta out pirate em. This is a pirate game and sometimes you gotta accept the fact that someone will steal your loot!

  • That story with minor alterations has been told since the beginning of the time. Prolly from early betas.

I feel for you, but playing solo is dangerous. But its also rewarding, I have sailed solo more than on crews and its not for the faint hearted. You have to be careful, you have to be paranoid, you have to be brave, you have to play like you have nothing to lose. And then galleons will not chase you, you will chase them!

and with all seriousness, sometimes a tiny sloop can beat a galleon. But always you can run from one and win without a single shot. But once you get boarded, you have nobody else to blame than yourself.

  • Solo is hard and usually not really rewarding until you're quite used to the game. Most of the time you need to be sneaky, fast (if you can handle a brigantine on your own) or fire first and ask questions later. Not to mention even in an alliance you can be easily betrayed for you do lack the manpower to watch over your one man crew interests.

As already stated above, you better play coop first to learn the ropes and then go back to solo when you're more experienced.

  • @lordkranon

Ahoy there, I can understand your frustration in some ways and if you feel there are glitches or other bugs in the game which might give players an unintended advantage, such as being able to prevent being attacked then please report these via Support so that the Dev team can investigate.

Likewise, toxic language and insults can be reported and are definitely not welcome in the game.

    https://support.seaofthieves.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360000779227-How-to-report-a-player

It does sound a really unfortunate turn of circumstances which you almost overcame and all credit to you for surviving and choosing to play solo.

  • I've done plenty of solo-slooping, but now I usually sail with my crew, which is made up completely of (originally low level) people I've met while soloing. Now we're all PL's, and rake in the loot (by hook or by crook) nightly.

Going solo is difficult, but definitely doable; but an organized, skilled crew is the quickest (and most fun) way to achieve success on the seas.

All games have some kind of balancing issues, and until they're fixed, players must adjust their play to maximize their experience.

Don't be afraid to speak to people. Not everyone is going to try to kill you on sight.

  • @lordkranon sorry for the rough start. It gets better. You'll learn to sail better and find creative ways to take down other ships.

You didnt waste 8 hours. You may have not made any gold or rep but in the end they are pointless anyway. Just keep enjoying your voyages.
From your story, you are recognizing their techniques. That's a start. Now you'll learn how to defend against it.

Keep your head up. You got this!

  • Yes , this game is designed for 3 / 4 players ..... if you're solo / duo (like me) just stand on the side ( this game not suitable for you ).
    .
    Unbalanced List:

    • Treasures rate are equalise ( 1 pair of hand & 4 pairs of hand - get the same rate )
    • If you're sloop (1 player) , you cant ran out from a Brigantine (3 players) ** flag activated
    • Solo / Duo / Trio / Squad - all is adding into a same server
      .
Fully disappointing with the game , after a 100 hours gameplay ... ( not because i noob , but the game structure is totally unbalance & unfair )
  • @dinox2243 I understand your new to the forums but this thread is over 2 years old. A mod will soon be here to anchor this thread. Resurrecting old posts is against the forum rules.
